Packages

What is a package?

A package is a set of files that form one application. To run the package, you normally need to download and possibly install all the files in the package.

The files in the package may be REBOL scripts, images or other files.

Usually, the "visible" public script is much more like a catalog card for the package: it carries a brief note about what the package does, but does not contain any executable code.

How to download a package

Use the package downloader. You start a REBOL session on your computer, and then do the downloader.

It comes in two versions, /core for that retro-look, or if you are on a platform that does not support View; and /view for the fully graphic version:

  • view: do http://www.rebol.org/library/public/repack.r
  • core: do http://www.rebol.org/library/public/repack-core.r

Can I tell what is in a package without downloading it?

In many cases yes:

  • View the main file (click the view link against the search result if you ran the query above)
  • Click the package info link (top menu bar) or the details of files (in the footnotes)
