[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
[unknown: 9] 2-Feb-2007 [2188x2] | Sunanda, what I think is unfair (or more importantly untrue), is that we "disregard" anything... Comparing us to BC, is simple rude. We are the opposite. There is an acerbic nature and spirit here, and I'm saddened by it. |
The moment Tom posted me the lost list, I assigned someone in my company to help out and augment Peter's list to be complete with information eve from the past.
Maxim 2-Feb-2007 [2190] | Is everyone upkeeping the top altme wishes checklist? I just did a few little edits/changes... but I wonder if anyone is even aware they are there... does Reichart and gang look at this list? |
PeterWood 11-Feb-2007 [2191x2] | There are still a lot of entries in the altme wishes list that have no description......the conclusion must be that they are not really wanted by anybody here as nobody can be bothered to write a couple of sentences to explain them. |
The AltMEPeeves (or bug) list now identifies the top ten list . If you can think of any just cause or impediment to the list, type now or forever hold your peace.
Graham 11-Feb-2007 [2193] | No dissent from me |
Chris 11-Feb-2007 [2194] | Seems reasonable. |
Oldes 11-Feb-2007 [2195] | Must say, that the links should be really fixed. It's the most confusing thing in Altme for me. |
Maxim 11-Feb-2007 [2196] | hum, somehow the "runs on solaris", should be removed from top 10... its simply not a possibility. |
PeterWood 11-Feb-2007 [2197] | A wish is a wish and my guess is that the "runs on solaris" is actually very similiar to the wish for a "Core-based Server". |
Maxim 11-Feb-2007 [2198] | but in the top 10? and its also impossible... so why leave it there since this is really now a top 9? |
PeterWood 11-Feb-2007 [2199x5] | At the moment it is at number 22 in the list of wishes ...so it doesn't reach my top ten. |
At the moment, there are 13 peeves (bugs) and 73 wishes......it seems the list of peeves is just about agreed ...I've pushed "display of html links is a mess" into the top 5 Oldes....
So we can soon present them to Reichart.
I really believe that just fixing those ten will noticeably improve AltME as a product.
I think that it will take us a little longer to achieve the same degere of consensus on the wishes.
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2204] | why is "run on solaris" impossible? |
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [2205] | can solaris be encapped? |
PeterWood 12-Feb-2007 [2206] | As the full wish says "Run on Sloaris no X11" - it may be that Maxim felt that would make it more than a little tricky to run the AltME clinet. |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2207x2] | i had the detective encapped on solaris... |
async dns does not work but everything else was working fine.
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [2209] | but has the 1.3.2 solaris encap ever been done? |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2210] | no, but it could be done if it was really needed. |
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [2211] | guess it depends how deeply your links to carl go ;-) |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2212x2] | we're talking about altme... :) |
and... building just the server should be easy enough to do.
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [2214] | hum... but I had understood that the client was the request... I guess a core only server would be better still :-) |
PeterWood 12-Feb-2007 [2215] | As the request said without X.11, I think it is safe to assume only the server. |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2216] | even for the client: well, since the detective worked, i assume altme could too; altme does not require draw wich could be a problem to compile on solaris, and as long as it does not require async dns i think there should be no problems. |
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [2217] | but the final question is... but do we want Carl to put time on this or R3 ;-)? |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [2218] | i would be surprised if it took more than one hour... however, i would consider this a low priority thing, so probably after r3 :) |
[unknown: 9] 17-Feb-2007 [2219] | So..............it the final bug and feature list pretty much in agreement? |
Graham 17-Feb-2007 [2220x2] | Yes |
Once you fix those, we'll come up with the next 10 ...
[unknown: 9] 18-Feb-2007 [2222x2] | You mean "once the team" |
Try not to make this personal.
Graham 18-Feb-2007 [2224] | you = plural |
Tomc 18-Feb-2007 [2225] | yall |
Graham 18-Feb-2007 [2226] | Yeah, I wasn't being personal, just personnel. |
PeterWood 18-Feb-2007 [2227x3] | The final top ten bugs are: |
Scrolling under Windows Gnome Cut & Paste (possibly should be X.11 cut & paste) Clicking http links under Linux has no effect The edit buffer is lost on disconnection Display of html links is a mess Use of graphic as well as red colour to highlight groups with unread messages Message highlighting is lost on disconnection Search shold show messages in the local archive Message not "tied" to a topic Better formatting ot exported HTML conversations.
..and if you could stretch to 12... Everything red on a new installation Crash on recycle (though I thought the last has already been fixed).
Anton 18-Feb-2007 [2230] | and that one needs to be fixed again, just to be sure. |
Graham 18-Feb-2007 [2231] | I don't think it is just Gnome Cut & Paste .. it is intermittent under windows as well. |
Anton 19-Feb-2007 [2232] | Yes, I concur. |
Henrik 19-Feb-2007 [2233x2] | hmm... I just installed a security update to XP and AltME will sometimes disappear mysteriously, as if killed. |
that said, I have 7 more updates that refuse to install. perhaps some of these updates will cause instability if not all of them are installed simultaneously.
Anton 19-Feb-2007 [2235] | End of Life |
Maxim 19-Feb-2007 [2236] | well, I just discovered that off-line browsing is now a failure in every case I have tried I think that is a #1 bug candidate. |
Henrik 19-Feb-2007 [2237] | a reboot seemed to help here for now |
