...[spam subject deleted]...

 [1/5] from: joel:neely:fedex at: 14-Aug-2001 1:32

Hi, Marcel, I wholeheartedly agree with any expression of concern that the REBOL mailing list is becoming subjected to spam. I would further request that The Powers That Be consider a policy that any appropriation of the REBOL mailing list for commercial solicitation unrelated to REBOL cause immediate suspension of list privileges of the account from which said spam originates. Notice that the spammer sent the spam to itself, but (in all likelihood) BCC-ed [rebol-list--rebol--com], thus ensuring that any responses would further pollute the list, rather than being received by the spammer itself. This is standard low-tech fraud, and usually constitutes further evidence that the spammer knew that it was engaging in socially undesirable behavior and wished to avoid the consequences thereof.

1. Q: This is standard low-tech fraud, and usually constitutes further evidence that the spammer knew that it was engaging in socially undesirable behavior and wished to avoid the consequences thereof. A: No Joel, it was genuinely a simple mistake. I sent this email to my friends. Pulling together the list from my sent box, and putting my personal email address on it. So if you wanted to flame me wouldn't it be silly for me to spam? 2. Q: Notice that the spammer sent the spam to itself, but (in all likelihood) BCC-ed [rebol-list--rebol--com], thus ensuring that any responses would further pollute the list, rather than being received by the spammer itself. A: Well, Columbo you're not :) I BCCed because some people don't want other people to know their email addresses. About 30 people in the Rebol community have asked me to update them when version 1 was ready, so you can (hopefully) understand that I got a a bit bleary eyed looking through the email addresses. Reichart is actually VERY related to REBOL, commercially and otherwise. ;-) ... and his company is working on REBOL apps. -jeff
