Imagine a small kernal, sever stitched together drivers, and nothing 
more than a browser with a built in frame work for the UI.  This 
would be more than good enough for 95% of people's computer needs. 
 No Linux, no OSX, no Windows.  Barely an OS at all.

MagmaOs (Rebol OS) was supposed to be like that, no? :-)

that demo was fun. worked well on a 486 with 8 MB RAM

Cool.  If we can make this part of the Open Source project of FireFox, 
I think it could "win" this time around.

The problem is Opera.  you need a framework INSIDE the browser

yeksoon - the PSP (although I don't like it) has a larger screen 
and the same wifi ability - and many of it's games already have web 
browsers

That doesn't surprise me. If there was no money in opensource IBM 
will not have pour over 1 billion into it.

The funny part is that companies are now trying to buy there way 
into opensource.

sunanda, I'm terribly disappointed by this virus. :-) OSX is so far 
behind in this regard, basically like a Ford T vs. a modern Ferrari 
where WinXP is so far ahead in virus propagation

I don't expect an exponential growth in virus like in windows, but 
it sad to see such malware showing up.

it's always going to be there. I remember cleaning the Saddam virus 
from my old Amiga floppies, oh boy. :-)

I guess one problem with a multicast tree is that if you're disseminating 
your RSS feed this way, you may not know how many subscribers there 
are.

Graham feedtree can be implemented with BEER. The Multicast approach 
restrict the number of users that will be able to use it. As there 
is no multicast backbone on the current internet.
