Volker 6-Jan-2006 [1x2] | (The old group was a bit to OT for web IMHO) |
(Old group renamed, not deleted)
[unknown: 9] 6-Jan-2006 [3] | OT? |
Graham 7-Jan-2006 [4] | off topic |
Terry 7-Jan-2006 [5x3] | You know, OT... like this group so far. |

Pekr 8-Jan-2006 [9x4] | haha, osnews.com runs article about http://atomchip.com/, they show at CES once again, and once again they claim having superior technology, yet once again not showing anything working :-) |
maybe NRAM sounds more promissing :-) http://www.nantero.com/tech.html , http://www.nantero.com/nram.html
Super image sensor - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1908418,00.asp
hmm, just looking at sources of mySQL and I can find pthreads are there, so they might use photothreads? Carl once wanted me to remind him of that. So Jaime, if you know libevent is considered for even loop, you might once again point Carl to http://www.sics.se/~adam/pt/ , but maybe he has already decided how to do such things properly for REBOL 3.0 :-)
Pekr 9-Jan-2006 [13x2] | Did not know that apache has new branch, which went stable - version 2.2 - http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/Announcement2.2.html |
.... I wonder what they mean by new sql connection support ....
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [15] | bleh - just found out can't connect a VOIP phone to Skype directly from the router. I'm going to have to check into all those other possibilities. It's a confusing new area, VOIP, for a beginner. |
Graham 9-Jan-2006 [16] | I just use a skype phone .. usb to PC which controls the skype interface. |
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [17] | Yes, that's what I will do, but I wanted to completely replace the phone without having my computer on all the time. |
[unknown: 9] 9-Jan-2006 [18] | What is the solution for that? I would like to have a wireless Skype phone in my office? What is the best one? |
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [19x4] | I will use Skype for now, until later I can augment that with a real VOIP phone. |
Reichart, I can't tell you which one is the best, I haven't tried any myself yet !
But I found this really nice Australian site: http://ozvoip.com/products.php
You can get a Plantronics Bluetooth phone maybe: http://ozvoip.com/productCategory.php?cat=headset&PHPSESSID=91e007793ea1aca5e6ab754262a96bbe
[unknown: 9] 9-Jan-2006 [23] | I want a skype compatible wireless (802.11) free standing system though. |
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [24x5] | You mean, without computer being on ? Can't be done, due to Skype's proprietary protocol. |
Skype Compatible Hardware: http://ozvoip.com/skype.php?PHPSESSID=91e007793ea1aca5e6ab754262a96bbe
It's like: "DAMN DAMN DAMN !!"
If think if Skype gets big enough, they might come out with some small hardware adapter to connect phone to router.
But that remains to be seen.
Graham 9-Jan-2006 [29] | I thought they had those already ? |
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [30x2] | Not using Skype protocol. |
I had this overwhelming impression that was done, too.
Graham 9-Jan-2006 [32x3] | what's this then ? |
http://www.oncomp.com/apr05-1.htm
oh .. needs pc still. | |
[unknown: 9] 9-Jan-2006 [35x3] | Yeah, I was under the impression this had been worked out also. |
Well, if anyone learns more, speak up.
I talk to a lot of you over Skype right now, I just wish I was not attached to my computer.
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [38x5] | Mmm... some negative criticisms of Skype. It may make your computer a supernode, then you will be doing a lot of switching for the network. |
An alternative service is wavigo, which I will check out now.
(still didn't see any skype direct from router technology yet.)
huh :) http://www.wavigo.com/
Perhaps better than Skype because it claims "No supernodes", but you still need a computer as it uses a proprietary protocol.
[unknown: 9] 9-Jan-2006 [43] | Yeah, and Skype wins since so many people have it. good or bad. |
ReViewer 9-Jan-2006 [44] | Maybe "supernoding" improves the final quality also compare to a more simple P2P? |
Anton 9-Jan-2006 [45x6] | That could be the case, and may explain why Skype became so popular so quickly. |
Anyone else noticing that google seems to be getting worse ?
(with regard to advertising). Or are the advertisers getting too strong for google ?
(Wavigo has a mode for connecting to Skype, by the way, so there could be a "leak" from Skype's powerful position.)
Graham, yep your link first takes us to actiontec.com, but if you read carefully it still requires the use of a PC. :-(
I suspect unless you read it in big bold type (because it would be big news when it would happen) it is safe to assume that the feature is not there.
