[DevCon2005] DevCon 2005
older newer | first last |
Gabriele 15-Jun-2005 [102] | if there are enough people interested in visiting rome, we could organize and all stay in the same hotel, then take the same train to milan. i'd be with you and we could get tickets etc. in advance. just an idea... |
MichaelB 15-Jun-2005 [103] | How does the sending of the DevCon form work. There's written it will be send via e-mail. When I use Opera (my mailer) it just opens the empty mailer and the IE wants to use Outlook what's not configured. Is there another way to send the Survey without making it too hard for you Gabriele ? (copy the information in the mail ....) |
eFishAnt 15-Jun-2005 [104] | REBOL romers? |
Maxim 15-Jun-2005 [105x2] | Ammon, I seriously doubt I have the money to pay for a trip to Italy. its a trip worth a few thousand dollars. |
doh, pressed wrong Ctrl key !!! was not meant to be sent here... but the damage is done... :-)
Tomc 15-Jun-2005 [107] | from the maillist: Hello all, http://www.colellachiara.com/devcon05/survey.html Regards, Gabriele. |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [108] | Michael: form result should go to email automatically. you can send me a mail manually if you want. if there's a problem for enough people with the email form, i'll look into setting up a cgi. |
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [109] | Should use the plugin! |
Pekr 16-Jun-2005 [110] | btw - what is your suggestion? Rome or Milano? I was not in either ... |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [111x6] | Graham: i've been thinking a lot about how to make it so that 1) it could be done in a couple mins 2) could be accessed by anyone, even without rebol or plugin. this seemed like the simplest and most accessible way. which shows that the web is too complicated. |
petr: Milano is closer to the place where the devcon is. from Roma you have to travel across half Italy. so, if you have a limited time, Milano is best. while if you have enough time and want to take the chance to visit italy, you may prefer Roma.
Milano is more a "business" kind of city. Roma is probably more interesting from a tourist point of view. but it really depends. Milano can be very interesting too.
i think we should consider Roma only if we manage to get an arganized group there. that would mean a lot of fun.
*organized | |
btw, everyone feel free to submit the form even if you are not sure about your answers. it's just getting a mail to me so if you change idea you can just send me another one or send me a note manually.
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [117] | Accessed without Rebol ? I wonder if you *really* believe someone who does not have rebol installed would be coming to a devcon! |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [118x2] | you may be on a pc without rebol. but - why not? ;) |
so, ok, let's write a little script.
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [120x2] | I suspect that the number of people who would be interested in going, and don't have rebol installed, are far outweighed by those that do, and don't read english. |
You don't need cgi either, you can use set-net [ "form" 216.40.214.39 ] in your script, and then 'send the results to you.
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [122x2] | graham: i agree, but if you don't read english, how are you supposed to attend the conference or speak with each other there? |
of course i will just use send in the script.
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [124] | I guess it should be set-net [ "form" "motoko.rebol.it" ] |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [125] | can't we just keep the users's config? that won't work if you're behind proxies or something like that. |
PeterWood 16-Jun-2005 [126] | Graham: so you want to keep Mac users away from the Devcon do you? |
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [127x2] | I expect the Mac port to be completed soon enough now that 1.3 is out :) |
From those who attended the last one, is two days sufficient, too much, or not enough time?
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [129] | graham: depends on number of speakers. we had to rush a lot at last one (my speech was reduced from 45 mins to about 10 mins) |
Pekr 16-Jun-2005 [130] | have you talked to Carl, if he would come to Italy? |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [131] | he will. |
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [132] | I think if you're going to pay 1000s of $ to travel so far, then that is a real shame to cut short the speakers. |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [133] | i'd say, No Carl No Party. :) |
Graham 16-Jun-2005 [134] | Cindy has already stated that she has blocked off carl's calendar for end of Sept. |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [135x2] | ok, you wanted it, so don't blame me. http://www.colellachiara.com/devcon05/survey.r |
lunch - later. | |
Pekr 16-Jun-2005 [137] | Where are you going? You just said that lunch is gonna happen later, no? :-) |
DideC 16-Jun-2005 [138] | Find me a language that make it shorter ! (except a phone call, that's just 12 number ;-) |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [139] | does that script seem ok to you? |
JaimeVargas 16-Jun-2005 [140] | How about "Lake Como"? Only 30 min outside of Milan, and quite a sight from what I have heard. |
Pekr 16-Jun-2005 [141] | well, it will depend how expensive is such hotel :-) |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [142] | if there's time, we could do a trip there. but... not sure about the time part :) |
Pekr 16-Jun-2005 [143x3] | Gabriele - do you have beer in Italy? :-) |
If so, I don't need to trvell much :-)
travel | |
JaimeVargas 16-Jun-2005 [146x2] | I was thinking about organizing the conference in Lake Como, if possible; Nice surroundings. |
May I ask why Milan? | |
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [148] | a reboler that works in a school near milan offered to host the conference. |
JaimeVargas 16-Jun-2005 [149x2] | Ok. Then thats a good reason. |
Is the location for the conference a school?
Gabriele 16-Jun-2005 [151] | yes. a high school. |
