[unknown: 10] 26-May-2005 [606x3] | Ii.e. the " |
Oeps.. | |
I.e. the "GONE/LATER" button could imply that..
Volker 26-May-2005 [609] | you mean, we dont want to publish things like ACCeo93$&!! accidentally, right? |
[unknown: 10] 26-May-2005 [610] | yups... |
Volker 26-May-2005 [611] | (oops, can somebody delete my password here please? PLEASE!!) |
[unknown: 10] 26-May-2005 [612x2] | Or even Wrong Copy&Pasts between different Chat tools... |
:) | |
[unknown: 9] 26-May-2005 [614] | OK, so let me recap, you want to be able to re-edit something that was posted? |
Volker 26-May-2005 [615x2] | No, i we want to block posting something. |
instead of typing/pasting a warning "remember you are not really here" ;)
Tomc 26-May-2005 [617x5] | R they want a button , like the 'gone' button that when active prevents altme from accepting input |
(presumably except repushing the button)
quiesent mode perhaps | |
disables the "New message" text area ... makes it uneditable
lurker mode | |
[unknown: 9] 27-May-2005 [622x2] | Ah, I get it. |
So, based on that logic, perhaps it needs to be both manual, and automatic (if AltME looses focus, it turns on Lock)?
Brock 27-May-2005 [624] | configurable in user settings ;) |
Volker 27-May-2005 [625] | i like the idea with "lose focus, lock. come back, unlock first". some confirm "do you really want to type here.". i would be more relaxed in using the clipboard :) |
[unknown: 9] 27-May-2005 [626x2] | Agreed. |
Does anyone have this problem with IM, or anythign else that accepts fast input?
Henrik 27-May-2005 [628x2] | IRC clients all have this problem |
I've only seen one which asks if I want to paste many lines, but not generally for pasting.
Anton 30-May-2005 [630x2] | When trying to type, flash the "unlock" icon (instead of further annoying the user by popping a requestor). |
A new user, not knowing and surprised by the lock, then is tempted to ask "what the hell is this flashing icon ?", presses it, then gets the message, "keyboard unlocked" - "ahh.. I see!"
[unknown: 9] 30-May-2005 [632] | Agreed. |
ChristianE 30-May-2005 [633x2] | Probably better yet: Do both. And put a "Don't show this dialog again" check-box into the popup-requester. I don't appreciate very much depending on user's curiosity to find out how things work. |
I generally see the approach to educate a user in place until he feels educated working well.
Henrik 30-May-2005 [635] | same thing for copying to clipboard too... a flashing icon or some kind of passive notification, rather than a popup |
Colin 30-May-2005 [636] | Is Altme ever going to support web proxies? It seems strange that IOS does but Altme doesn't. |
[unknown: 9] 31-May-2005 [637] | Yes. |
Tomc 2-Jun-2005 [638] | I have two altme clients open on two computers (XP & RH) on my desk right now and the last message in the "tech news" on XP is Prkr from May 26, the laso on the red hat is Reichart from a few minutes ago. both computers are on the same university subnet with fast connections. I have tried the dot trick, and stopping and restarting the altme on xp to try and force it to pick up the more recent messages without sucuess. |
Sunanda 2-Jun-2005 [639] | Try logging on as guest/guest, and then back as yourself....It can sometimes force a proper resync |
Tomc 2-Jun-2005 [640] | Brians post caused it to resync |
Sunanda 2-Jun-2005 [641] | Weird, isn't it? |
Tomc 2-Jun-2005 [642] | yes, not at all expected on a fast connection |
BrianW 2-Jun-2005 [643] | mine? |
Tomc 2-Jun-2005 [644] | yep, yours, goes to show words can have unintended side effects |
BrianW 2-Jun-2005 [645] | Must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays. |
Colin 3-Jun-2005 [646] | Hi Reichart - when? |
[unknown: 9] 3-Jun-2005 [647] | Don't know yet, but it is on the list. |
Rebolek 6-Jun-2005 [648] | it'sd possible to change my username? |
Graham 6-Jun-2005 [649] | Reichart can change it ... |
[unknown: 9] 6-Jun-2005 [650] | Change it to what? |
Gordon 13-Jun-2005 [651] | How do you export AltME checklist info and then IMPORT that data back into another world? Is there a file format for what AltME expects the data to look like? |
[unknown: 9] 14-Jun-2005 [652] | you can get this data, but you have to sort of hack it. Go search your drive for info you KNOW is in your checklist. It is pretty simple from thier. |
DideC 14-Jun-2005 [653] | :) |
Sunanda 9-Jul-2005 [654] | I just tried guest with a password of guest to correct the syncing problem. It says guest/guest is no longer valid. Is that just me, or what? If not, how are new people to request an account? And how do I work around the sync bug? |
Graham 9-Jul-2005 [655] | guess guest was a security hole |
