[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
Brock 28-Feb-2005 [349] | When you guys say you 'rebooted' your worlds, do you mean, actually recreate them? That's what I had to do as the world names hadn't been used as far as the AltME World Lookup Server was concerned. My three worlds (used only lightly) all needed to be restarted in the order they were originally created to claim the same IP addresses inorder to function properly. |
Tomc 28-Feb-2005 [350x2] | I think world names can expire after 10 days of disuse, so if light use means taking a couple of weeks off |
they may have just expired
Colin 28-Feb-2005 [352] | No - I had to shutdown the world and then restart it. |
Graham 28-Feb-2005 [353] | just restart them .. |
Brock 28-Feb-2005 [354x2] | Tomc, two of them are used every week, one of them daily just not alot of users. One time all my worlds did the very same thing without an World Server problem. |
I did restart them, just if you have multiple the world server seems to reactivate the unstarted world and the port is remembered, so you have to recreate them in the same order.
[unknown: 9] 28-Feb-2005 [356] | Have you clearly documented this in a FEEDBACK post? |
Brock 28-Feb-2005 [357x2] | Might be useful to have in the user guide. |
I believe I did when this happened before Reichart. You guys didn't find anything at your end to explain it.
[unknown: 9] 28-Feb-2005 [359x3] | Ah. |
Odd. | |
There are soooooooooooooo many subtle issues with the web. I'm playing with an internet camera right now, I get such odd results from it.
Ashley 1-Mar-2005 [362] | OK, I know we've covered this before but how do I remove myself from a group (Christianity in this case). This is what I tried: 1. Right click the group 2. Click on my username on the right hand side and observe it move to the left ... so far so good 3. Click save and get a dialog that says, "You must include yourself in the group." 4. Cancel to dismiss the dialog (I figure "Delete" is asking for trouble at this stage) ;) ??? |
Ammon 1-Mar-2005 [363] | Right click self, uncheck Christianity |
BrianW 1-Mar-2005 [364] | I do that, and click "Save". Each time I open the self profile, though, the group is checked again. |
Graham 1-Mar-2005 [365] | you need to log off and on again for this to work |
BrianW 1-Mar-2005 [366x2] | ohh. |
That was the missing step, thanks.
Graham 1-Mar-2005 [368] | I've only asked the same question myself 3x so far :) |
Tomc 1-Mar-2005 [369] | it is a usability issue |
[unknown: 9] 1-Mar-2005 [370] | Actually, this one is a bug + we can improve the UI, and will fix, and will improve. |
BrianW 1-Mar-2005 [371] | keep up the good work, the more I use it the more I enjoy it :-) |
Ashley 1-Mar-2005 [372] | Works like a charm (and quick too). |
Gregg 2-Mar-2005 [373] | R: Something like an "Ignore this group" button maybe? |
[unknown: 9] 3-Mar-2005 [374] | Yup. |
yeksoon 3-Mar-2005 [375] | for 3 consecutive days, I have experience recycle bug in AltMe. Are there anything specific that causes this? |
Sunanda 3-Mar-2005 [376] | Causes may include clicking before the resync has completed. But it also seems to be related to the size of the world -- I've been getting the recycle bug in the last few days, so possibly Rebol3 is getting too large. |
Tomc 3-Mar-2005 [377] | I recently got the recycle bug on a single group of a small world (repeatdly ) untill someone else posted to that group. (note my client was running on the same machine the world was running on) |
[unknown: 9] 3-Mar-2005 [378x2] | Yeksoon, yes, something in Rebol from what we can tell. I'm not quick to blame Rebol actually, but we have talked about this one with Carl, and on our next big update (which has a large rewrite in it) this bug WILL be gone. |
We are annoyed by it also. It hits me about 2 times a week, I run 3 clients on my system most of the time.
Ammon 3-Mar-2005 [380x4] | The before/after button in the Serach window... What is it doing in which state? |
Toggle GUI Elements have a tendancy to confuse me unless they are a radio button or checkbox where the meaning is clear.
You never know how the developer was thinking when he designed it... Visible text is current state, or click to switch the state that the visible text refers to?
Sent feedback on the date selector. It doesn't like TODAY. Switch the value to any other day and try to select TODAY, you'll pull an error 100% of the time...
Louis 3-Mar-2005 [384x2] | Reichart, I really appreciate AltME. It is a great application. |
I makes getting help a lot faster.
[unknown: 9] 4-Mar-2005 [386x2] | Ammon, yeah, I agree. We are slowly locking down what I call a "pattern language." In other words using the same UI parts the same way everywhere. |
Louis, thank you. Slowly but constantly, we move forward.
Ammon 8-Mar-2005 [388] | May I ask what the Depot folder and its contents are? It looks useful! |
[unknown: 9] 9-Mar-2005 [389] | LOL, yeah, info on all the directories will be coming. We are waiting for our next update before we let people start poking things. |
Ammon 9-Mar-2005 [390x2] | Ok... Patiently waiting... ;~> |
In a world as large as this one, perhaps there should be a way to quickly view Group information such as descriptions. Maybe even the ability to search the groups to see if a group relevant to your next post exists or if you should create a new group for the post.
eFishAnt 9-Mar-2005 [392] | what about a smaller planet, like Mars? |
[unknown: 9] 9-Mar-2005 [393] | Yeah, we are playing with something like that. |
Ammon 9-Mar-2005 [394] | Such a feature would likely be quite usefull there as well... |
BrianW 9-Mar-2005 [395] | Does AltME have a DCC file-send type of thing? |
Pekr 9-Mar-2005 [396x2] | no |
maybe upcoming major update will have, but that is question for Reichart to answer. If I understand it correctly, it will feature ability to extend AltME with other apps ...
BrianW 9-Mar-2005 [398] | ok, I was just wondering |
