Some of us use AltMe to read AltMe messages, not REBOL.org.

Does the AltME archive at REBOL.org include private and non-web-public 
groups?

No.....It's only the [web-public] ones.

But (confusingly!) there could be a [web-public] private group.....That'd 
be one that a select few could post to, but anyone could web-read.

Yes, it's extremely painful ... Carl should add the ability to sort 
on the names.

It took me close to 5 mins to find BrianH's name to add him to the 
new ~Political group.

And he wasn't close to the top where I expected him to be.

I didn't get invited here until late.

You can sort on "Activity" date/time, which should make active users 
a bit easier to find.

Experimental goodie asked for by Graham.....Ability to execute code 
included in posts in this world.

Of course there are some limitations:
 1. if a post does not have a
    rebol []

    to identify the start of the code, we may fail in executing text
 2. ditto if there is text after the script
 3. assumed to be ascii file (not UTF-8 etc) right now
 4. post may take 12 to 18 hours to appear on REBOL.org archive

I was thinking it might be useful to view someone's view script ... 
easier to see the visuals this way since we can't include images 
in posts.

i just moved to the latest beta altme for debian linux x86 - even 
if I go off-line and come back it reports that session synced but 
most groups in rebol3 are empty; my R2-Beta world appears fully populated. 
 I bumped the chat limit up to 10000 (10k) but nothing appears to 
have been added ... grops that had new contents on my old OS ( i 
moved up to Ubuntu 9.0.4 ) even yesterday now sit empty ... am I 
bumping into a known issue?

The sync bug is a very old one.
Possible partial solutions:

-- leave world running for  a long time....some groups then resync 
if a message is posted to them

-- change your message limit, and then do a search for a fairly common 
word

-- send a message (just a dot is the convention) to every group you 
want to resync
-- delete all messages and restart the world.

Another possible solution (usually does not work):
--  send a message to yourself.

post hoc ergo propter hoc    a mail to me and now I have my mail

. nets the messages   thanks

(I send RobertS a private message, and it seems to have triggered 
some resyncing.....So another partial solution).

search on common rebol words seems to indicate that groups are creeping 
in ever so slowly

for me its always delete and start over, with the detail that you 
must let it complete everything before touching or posting.

but you need a fast connection or else the timeouts occur and when 
that happens, nothings syncs anymore.

Can people stop putting "." into groups to sync ... it's very annoying. 
 It turns groups red for us.

Sadly, it is sometimes the only way to trigger a proper sync of that 
group.

It can be annoying, true......But while the resync bug exists, there 
is no other guaranteed work around.

I suggest that they check on the web to see what's in web public 
groups instead

don't pollute all the groups with "."

I guess that  reinstalling AltMe and making a full sync would work. 
That way you don't have to spam-dot groups for others.

graham... did you wake up in a bad mood?
is it such a big endeavor to click on a few links ?

Forvevery "." that someone puts here, it forces every other active 
person .. maybe 30 people ... to click on that group to clear the 
red.

I'm always grouchy when software design flaws make me do unnecessary 
work

Dissatisfaction is the driving force behind innovation ... so if 
you complain about me, you're complaining about the driving force 
behind creativity and invention.

Never put up with the status quo if it can be improved ...

but the fault is altme.  so being mean to people who have to cope 
with it isn't going to change anything about altme  ;-)  its only 
going to piss of the person that's stuck with the problem.  who will 
feel even worse about having to piss of other people.


we all know that Altme is not going to be improved, its going to 
be replaced. so until that happens... you've got to live with the

instead of . can't they say "I'm interrested by the subject what's 
up ?" or "I like wht your doing any news" I mean when u cross someone 
in the streets you don't "." him. Or ys you do that ? I mean if you 
want the debat to live you have to apport  to it you have some how 
to participate.

graham i understand what u saying that was bothering me too ^_^ I 
hate false joy. When you "." to sync what you provoke in me is "Ho 
there is something going on their lets see if they are talking about 
thing related to the topic and if i can apport to de debat the project 
et make the things move on" that joy for me. But you delusion me 
when i see only a "."

and some other groups turn red having conversation in them and i 
don't go in to read cause they put me in bad mood like "I'm a Cristian 
I love religion I'm best" kind of groups i give a description that 
way i don't point particularly individuals wich in fact don't deserves 
my bad mood ... that's well how i'm when i read those kind of things.

so i stoped read them and my life is full of joy  ^^

but i have a problem in general with religion they all try to say 
you how you have to manage your life in some way and to go against 
the ones who want to live differently. THis life is yours man being 
free means you don't let anyone telling you how to live your life 
well until your actions don't arms other individuals.

Plus this is a place I choose to speak about rebol and work with 
people around rebol not a place to speak about my religion or if 
I do love with man or woman etc...  personal life is personal and 
that's not the place to expose it to us you can do that everwhere 
else on the net so please not here.

other while i was one of the first people in france to animate IRC 
when internet arrived in france I have been irc administrator for 
long so i'm used to hum spartiate epurated interface and altme even 
if it's not big developed I like the concept of it I just regret 
Carl don't participate in it with us.

I like it while it works. & it dosn't fail too often now it is used 
to me :-)

r3 chat  is anti productive  and give me head hach i like spartiate 
interface but R3/chat is yerk and as I told you I have particed spartiate 
interface for a long long time (ok you want name ? Vi BitchX telnet 
etc..)

the commands are not mnemotechnic hard to remember for me if you 
have to read more than once the documentation the software is a failure 
lol

one day I will do rVi just to annoys you all :P

why doesn't Carl release parts of the altme code for us to fix.

because he expect selling it alot ? well he is from the big compagny 
way of thinking the software ... and i'm from the garage way of thinking 
the software you want to use it grab it you want to modify it do 
it. I mean having the will to use my creation and to enhance them 
comming from you is I satisfaction no monney can bring me ^^

IRC = Inetnet Relay Chat basically design by norvegian to exchange 
information during the long and boring winter they have it was a 
good way to speak with thousands of people at the same time make 
the thing really live. of course you have ways to select the kind 
of conversation you want to go on your channel

so, you can create your own channels?
