[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
Henrik 10-Jan-2007 [1972] | no problems here |
PeterWood 10-Jan-2007 [1973] | No such luck for me - still 53 empty conversations on my Windows/XP installation. Though I guess most of them haven't had a post for a long, long time. |
Pekr 10-Jan-2007 [1974] | of course, that is ok ... you have set threshold of messages loaded. If e.g. you set it to 500, then it is 500 posts in total, not per group .... (or so I think :-) |
Sunanda 10-Jan-2007 [1975] | I had some transient wierdness in the Blog Chat group recently......I can only scroll back as far as Thu to my message starting <MVS/TSO? CICS? > |
PeterWood 10-Jan-2007 [1976] | Petr: It says "per chat room" on the settings page so I'm not certain. Mine was set at 1000; I've changed it to 10,000 temporarily to see if that makes any difference. |
Sunanda 10-Jan-2007 [1977] | Conventional wisdom suggests the higher the setting, the more likely you are to experience the "recycle" crash. |
PeterWood 10-Jan-2007 [1978x3] | Isn't the recycle crash a thing of the past? |
Setting to a large number does make switching between groups tediously slow.
Actually If my memory serves me correctly the number of posts settings only affects how many are displayed and shouldn't affect synchronisation.
Sunanda 10-Jan-2007 [1981] | I'd like to think it is a thing of the past...But as far as I know all we applied was the low-count workaround. |
Louis 14-Jan-2007 [1982] | The main feature that needs to be added to AltME is prevention of a post being lost if the Internet connect happens to be broken. This happens often for me as the phone lines here are very unreliable. The user should be able to work off-line, and his post automatically be sent when he log on. |
sqlab 15-Jan-2007 [1983] | When I want to send a longish post, I write it with my preferred editor and then I just copy it to here.) |
[unknown: 9] 15-Jan-2007 [1984x2] | Please always sumit complaints to Feedback...even if it is the same complain. If you use that chanell, it ensures it is logged, and in the case of repeats, counted. |
(I'm typing on a very small keyboard, excuse those errors).
Tomc 16-Jan-2007 [1986] | why is there is a per file size limit for the shareing folder? I could almost understand a 2 gig historical limit -- but this is under 6Meg |
[unknown: 9] 16-Jan-2007 [1987] | That was not my choice... |
Tomc 16-Jan-2007 [1988x3] | ? |
is it settable per world
I don't find an option | |
Maxim 16-Jan-2007 [1991x3] | I think it has to do with the fact that many service providers will timeout an http port xfer even if its still working. and that amounts to about 6MB . I have that kind of effect with gmail. if I try to download something larger than 3MB it fails... because of the length it takes to download with my phone modem |
it could be that the server which this world is running on enforces this timeout somehow.
but these are just assumptions... someone might know for sure.
[unknown: 9] 16-Jan-2007 [1994] | Yup. |
Maxim 16-Jan-2007 [1995] | yup as in you know why? |
Tomc 17-Jan-2007 [1996x3] | it is not that. I run the server and it has excelent connectivity (multiple T3 ) I move many gigs of data with amazing regularity |
Max if we were interested in being limoted by the lowest common denominator would we be here at all?
so R who is to blame for hardcoding a filesize into altme fileshareing? Qtask is all about accountability should be a gimmi.
Graham 17-Jan-2007 [1999] | maybe it's a limitation .. if you make the files too large, it kills messaging?? |
Ingo 25-Jan-2007 [2000] | I just got a new Altme ... so what's new??? |
Geomol 25-Jan-2007 [2001] | That you got a new Altme. ;-P |
Sunanda 25-Jan-2007 [2002x4] | Juts got it too -- It made my font-size go little |
Changes are listed here:
http://www.altme.com/new.html
(Plus it changed my ctrl+s to send into enter to send) I just reset that to how I want it :-)
Graham 25-Jan-2007 [2006] | Wow, where are my magnifying lenses! |
Sunanda 25-Jan-2007 [2007] | the aA key restored the better size for me |
[unknown: 9] 25-Jan-2007 [2008x2] | We had to do an update, the "download file" was driving me crazy. |
Sorry about the reset to font size...just hit the [aA]
Maxim 25-Jan-2007 [2010] | somehow, I find that everytime the CTRL-S option is reset (which happens every now and then), I loose 5-10 minutes tring to put it back, looking in my options and trying to remember where that option is setup.. the pencil icon just has no relevance to the option and find that its easily forgotten... why not just use the CTRL-S or ENTER text itself as the toggle button? |
[unknown: 9] 25-Jan-2007 [2011] | You mean write it out in "english?" |
Maxim 25-Jan-2007 [2012] | no no... just remove the pencil button and use the actual current "or press CTRL-S" face as a toggle instead of just a label. |
Graham 25-Jan-2007 [2013] | So, to get an update, it has to drive R crazy ? |
[unknown: 9] 25-Jan-2007 [2014] | Graham, I am the biggest squeeky wheel.... |
Maxim 25-Jan-2007 [2015x2] | hum , if we all concentrate on one feature and bug R every single time he logs on... it will "Drive him crazy" ... ;-) so lets choose our next wanted feature!!!!! |
;-) | |
Graham 26-Jan-2007 [2017] | Yes, I think that will work nicely. |
[unknown: 9] 26-Jan-2007 [2018] | Right, like you guys could work out that much teamwork................even if the stakes are "annoying Reichgart" LOL |
Graham 26-Jan-2007 [2019x2] | First request - remove the file limit size ( Tomc ) |
Second request - save each post in the clipboard so if the connection is lost, the message is not.
Henrik 26-Jan-2007 [2021] | Graham, I don't like that. What about my important code snippet that was sitting in the clipboard? I'd just rather that AltME simply doesn't lose messages. Perhaps store them in a Sent Messages block |
