addon: and altme is backgrouned by starting like this "altme &"
Alan 24-Nov-2006 [1915] | tried using Alsa instead ? on my Mandriva 2007 Altme install I don't have the sound prefs running so not really sure if it works |
Alberto 11-Dec-2006 [1916x3] | Is possible to start an altme world server from a non-graphical enviroment like the linux shell |
?? | |
Sorry if is OT, I was unable to found the answer inside the AltME home page...
Graham 11-Dec-2006 [1919] | I believe you can. |
Tomc 11-Dec-2006 [1920] | Alberto: No not without their server version. |
Graham 11-Dec-2006 [1921] | That's the one I was referring to. |
Alberto 12-Dec-2006 [1922] | I suspected that... Anyway thanks to Tomc and Graham. |
JaimeVargas 20-Dec-2006 [1923] | (in need altme to correct my speeling, reichart are you listening) |
Rebolek 20-Dec-2006 [1924] | he's probably going to tell you that you should request it via feedback ;) |
[unknown: 9] 20-Dec-2006 [1925x2] | Yup... |
Formal channels ensure everything is logged.
BrianW 29-Dec-2006 [1927] | Is there an AltME preference setting for fonts? I have the same font issue w/altme on Linux that I described on the mailing list, but no convenient altme/user.r file to fiddle with |
[unknown: 9] 29-Dec-2006 [1928] | Sadly no, this is a deep issue with Rebol/Linux/Fonts |
BrianW 29-Dec-2006 [1929] | Ah well, that's what I was expecting. Sticking with altme in VMWare and the Viewtop on Linux for now. |
PeterWood 2-Jan-2007 [1930] | Are the problems with scrolling on Windows a Rebol/View problem or an AltME problem? I don't seem to get the problem on Linux. |
Janeks 8-Jan-2007 [1931x2] | Is it possible to start AltMe so that it will start a preset world? |
Is it possible configure AltMe so that private groups are visible only to group members ? Currently they a visible for all.
Ladislav 8-Jan-2007 [1933x2] | Is it possible to start AltMe so that it will start a preset world? -yes: "C:\Program Files\altme\altme.exe" -w "Rebol3" |
Is it possible configure AltMe so that private groups are visible only to group members ? private groups *are* visible only to group members
[unknown: 9] 8-Jan-2007 [1935] | http://www.altme.com/guide/advanced.html |
Maxim 8-Jan-2007 [1936] | and in your prefs, you can set it to auto-return to last visited world in your user setup. |
[unknown: 9] 8-Jan-2007 [1937] | Janeks, do you know that you can right click on groups...and then make it private, then select people that are part of teh word? |
Janeks 8-Jan-2007 [1938x5] | I would like to START world not login in the world automaticly! |
Private groups are visible ( to all members, but
Private groups are visible to all member but accessible only to group members. I would like to hide them from other non group members.
Sorry, about second! I was wrong - such behaviour are caused by multiple AltMes opened simultaneously for the same world.
What about new adding of new features to AltMe? If funding would be available? I am lacking some simple project management possibilities. The simplest thing could be just to add progress bar for tasks.
[unknown: 9] 8-Jan-2007 [1943] | Yeah, you want one feature, then somoene else wants another....soon you might as well use Qtask... |
Janeks 9-Jan-2007 [1944] | O'k! I like Rebol so it seems that alternative could be Rebol IOS. There are Project management reblet. |
Pekr 9-Jan-2007 [1945x3] | Reichart - interesting note - "...so you might as well use Qtask". After Carl's announcement of project plans, I once again had that special feeling (maybe an incorrect one?), that IOS had some nice feeling, that attracted me to the system. For me, IOS was an infrastructure, upon what your apps are delivered, docs synced, etc. |
Having kind of mixture of free IOS-like architecture (plus ability to run paid apps there), is imo still UNMATCHED by any web system - so far, web systems are just - wishfull thinking ...
... that is like with the amiga - 15 year later I ran Windows, but always when I turned that old A500, with its amazing scrolling etc., it established special feeling of lightweightness, simplicity ....
Anton 9-Jan-2007 [1948] | Reichart is about to say "Qtask is not just web" |
Pekr 9-Jan-2007 [1949x3] | it is, unless it establishes the same feeling to you ... |
I think as for me, it is not about Qtask being good, or bad. It is not about Qtask itself, so no need to defend its capabilities. It is about comparison of IOS and any web system I worked with. IOS helped me to establish somehow much more closer relation to the team (kind of psychological factor, and maybe I am alone)
So that is why I think product like Altissimo (mixture of IOS/Altme - platform for sw delivery) could still be a winner, even if IOS is dead for few years already ...
Rebolek 9-Jan-2007 [1952] | qtask page is loading 16 seconds here (I've got >8MBit/sec line, so this should not be a problem) - so that's the feeling. I like it very much, but REBOL front-end would be better I think. I also understand that web interface is necessity. It's just that 16 seconds... :/ |
Anton 9-Jan-2007 [1953] | A style a day keeps the doctor away. |
Pekr 9-Jan-2007 [1954x2] | Imagine tool like Altme written in AJAX, imo it would still feel awkward ... cool things don't emerge on web - irc, altme, skype, azureus, dc++, etc. |
Anton - can't translate your note about doctor :-)
Anton 9-Jan-2007 [1956x2] | I say this to myself occasionally. It means "build more GUI, then things will be easier". |
Qtask with a rebol front-end requires a fairly advanced rebol GUI.
Pekr 9-Jan-2007 [1958x2] | yes, I can imagine that, especially for the calendar/time etc. |
The difficult part to decide is - I would prefer View (rich client), but being in Reichart's position, I would go with the web too ....
Chris 9-Jan-2007 [1960x2] | Anton, I see managing styles on the canvas as the challenge -- we lack a killer dynamic layout engine. |
And then there's distribution (I'd still advocate my web-launch approach, instead of or complimentary to the plugin)
