When is the GUI due ?
Kaj

[1141]
I'm going to pull an R3 on you and say When It's Ready :-)
Graham

[1142]
end of 2008 then?
Kaj

The first phase, building the base Linux, was mine. Now it's up to
our project leader to port the Syllable stuff. I think I'm going
to push him like we push Carl. :-) Actually, I'm hoping he will feel
the pressure from people like you asking for it :-)

[1144]
yeah .. some of us are too old to remember command line arguments
and tool usage

I'm actually forced to learn Linux now ;-)
I'm fairly sure I'm the first person in the world to build a Linux
without caring much for it :-)

a html version of the readme would be nice :)
Kaj

[1148]
Yeah, but that belongs in a somewhat long-term grand plan to design
our documentation framework
Graham

[1149]
use a wiki
Kaj

[1150x2]
No, there's noone but me for some time to come who could write this
documentation
I've actually had a REBOL HTML generator for years, I just need to
wrap it up and it wasn't worth postponing Server for

reading txt files in a browser is very tricky
understanding Brenno de Winter's article is even harder
Kaj

[1154x3]
It can easily be downloaded into a line-wrapping viewer
That's a problem of a different order: learn Dutch :-)
Anyway, I'vejust replaced our website with my own REBOL content management
system, so the documentation plan has been set in motion
Graham

[1157]
Yet Another Rebol Content Management System ?
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1158x2]
Yup
Sorry, but I don't understand why nobody does it my way :-)

You're definitely not being invited to R3!
I'd consider using it as a virtualisation platform, but I guess I'd
wait till a GUI was wrapped around at least the installation
and I could VNC into the server
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1163x3]
Yeah, I'm looking at VNC and stuff like that for the next round
QEmu has a built-in VNC server, so if you run virtualised systems
on Server, you should be able to VNC into them; but I haven't tried
it yet
There's also VNC support in the DirectFB video subsystem, so that
we be another level to integrate at, but I have to build it in first

make sure that you have an image that can run on S3 :)
.. I mean EC2
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1168x3]
Ehm, that's a secret plan...
Our website already runs on S3, and our downloads
Supported by my CMS, albeit through Ruby
Graham

[1171]
interesting
Kaj

[1172x2]
Starting to feel for my way? ;-)
A basic installer is one of the next projects, but it's one of those
things that I don't know when I will get to
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1174]
a movie will do :)
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1175]
An instruction movie?
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1176]
yeah ..
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1177]
Do you think that would add to command-line instructions?
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1178]
it means I wouldn't have to read the instructions :)
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1179]
You won't get away with that :-)
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1180]
Amazon have all those instructional movies
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1181]
But I could do a slideshow when I prepare an emulator image]
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1182]
Only hard core users will do a console install .. so need to bridge
to those others
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1183x2]
Yeah, it's for hardcore and adventurous users now. After you install,
you're on your own configuring, anyway
But I made sure that all standard configurations have useful default
settings, unlike most Linuxes
Graham

[1185x2]
We moved our daylight saving this year ...
I think all my linux boxes have the wrong time.
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1187]
If you're installing on a stand-alone machine, you could get away
without configuring anything, and with a different partition setup
you only have to modify the filesystem table, which is standard practice
for Unix types
Graham
6-Oct-2007
[1188]
and there doesn't appear to be a fix for windows 2000
Kaj
6-Oct-2007
[1189]
Yeah, I read Debian refused to update it?
