[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
Ladislav 20-Aug-2005 [728] | to Reichart: have a look at the RAMBO group and see my findings about the GC crash, I think, that the workaround there can be applied to AltME too |
Anton 22-Aug-2005 [729] | The other day, I cut off my dialup connection about 10 seconds after starting AltME. The next day I connected, looked in Advocacy group and there were no new messages. I posted a message, and then it synced about 10 messages that had occurred during the intervening time. Just a bit more feedback on this problem.. in case it helps. I usually don't notice any such sync problem. |
Sunanda 22-Aug-2005 [730] | It's a common problem -- Just yesterday I got a week's worth of messages from the Sound group. I think it resynced because I happened to be connected when someone sent a message to that group. If I hadn't been, it'd still look like Sound was silent. |
Anton 22-Aug-2005 [731] | Maybe once you screw your sync, it stays screwed ? I will watch and see if it happens to me, but I have noticed it very occasionally and so it seems the problem doesn't stick with me. |
Sunanda 22-Aug-2005 [732] | It used to be fixable by logging on as guest. But that account no longer exists on this world. A dot in the dot group may help. I've tried various things -- like creating a new group & immeditaley deleting it. But I've not found anuthing that forces a resync. The bottom line is Altme is flakey at delivering messages to some users. |
[unknown: 9] 22-Aug-2005 [733] | Ladislav, yeah....we know, we are still waiting for the next update to do everything at teh same time. |
Sunanda 23-Aug-2005 [734] | The only solution I believe would curently work is to put a dot in every group every day. That would reduce usabilty for those who don't have the problem, but increase it for those who do. |
Graham 23-Aug-2005 [735] | How about sign up for an alternate login? |
Sunanda 23-Aug-2005 [736] | We think alike -- I asked for that back on 11-jul in this group. No response. Maybe it breaks the TOS...I can certainly see issues from an administrator's viewpoint. A single resync id with a password available on request for those who need it.....That would work, I think. |
Brock 24-Aug-2005 [737] | Reichart, just wondering with the world of IM clients getting more and more cluttered with Google's Chat application. And with enhancements coming to AltME, QTask etc. Are you able to give us any feedback to some of the plans for AltME or other apps with respect to your IM future? Specifically I was wondering if other IM communication standards are going to be integrated so we are not an island of private chat? Of course, having the option to not be a private world in some situations is a great option. I see that most IM services today are going to a smart-client (x-internet) type application requiring software install. Maybe Prolific's plan (I believe I recall anyway) to provide both a smart-client/web-client will be a plus. With Google generating IM chatter in the computer world, just hope you don't miss the boat and can make an impact in the IM world when you release your updated product(s). |
[unknown: 9] 24-Aug-2005 [738] | We are planning to support open standards directly. Google is supporting an open standard, so we will be compatible. |
Henrik 1-Sep-2005 [739] | Performance issue with copying links: Set number of messages per group to a big number, say 5-10000, go to the View group and copy a link. It reacts very slowly before the OK dialog comes up. Click OK and it takes a few seconds to disappear. Now copy some ordinary text by rightclicking on a chat entry, no performance problems. |
Sunanda 4-Sep-2005 [740] | Anton: <Maybe once you screw your sync, it stays screwed ?> That seems most likely -- unless you happen to be online at the moment someone else posts a message to the out-of-sync group. That seems to resync it. One way of telling if some of your groups are out of sync is to compare with the mirror at http://www.rebol.net/altweb/rebol3/ (only works for [web-public] groups, and only if the archive is not suffering from syncing problems). I can see right now, for example, that I haven't been sent the last 9 messages in [Tech News] |
Tomc 7-Sep-2005 [741] | robert w dumond <[acm-:-ebanccorp-:-com]> to rebolist More options 7:24 am (2½ hours ago) Hallo, alls - I am not able to connect to the AltME rebol world using the guest account. I have tried rebol, rebol2, and rebol3, all to no avail, and I could not find anything on google. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, robert w. dumond |
Gregg 7-Sep-2005 [742] | He's here now. |
Pekr 8-Sep-2005 [743] | that Gues problems was still NOT adressed! No clear explanation anywhere on web of how to get here! I will eventually fix it myself - making some how-to-get-on-altme group and making it web visible .... :-) |
Ingo 9-Sep-2005 [744] | I start getting "invalid datatype during recycle" messages with Altme. Twice during the last two weeks. Is this a known problem??? |
Henrik 9-Sep-2005 [745] | yes |
Ingo 9-Sep-2005 [746] | While I'm at it ... am I the only one where links get distorted in display? Klicking works, but long links seem, are displayed wrong ... they either wrap to the next line (partly overriding the text there), or part of the link isn't displayed. |
Henrik 9-Sep-2005 [747] | also known bug |
Graham 9-Sep-2005 [748] | Invalid datatype is a bug that seems to affect programs with async tcp |
Tomc 13-Sep-2005 [749] | oh!? I was suppose to cut the green one? |
Graham 13-Sep-2005 [750] | bad design I guess. One fault at the power supplier cascaded and took out the most of the city. |
Tomc 13-Sep-2005 [751] | questionable design ... to propogate bad design |
Brock 13-Sep-2005 [752x2] | Just wondering if Reichart and the AltME development team noticed this.... MSN Web Messenger. http://webmessenger.msn.com/ |
Exactly what AltME needs, client and web interface for access when away from one of your computers.
Carl 19-Sep-2005 [754] | I think there is an AltME module called AltEx that does that.... but currently only used for things like email gateway. I think 2.0 will add a lot more of those features. |
[unknown: 9] 19-Sep-2005 [755] | Yeah, we need to document everything. We are working on it. We do currently have someone working on FAQs Help etc. |
Graham 7-Oct-2005 [756] | I'm getting lots of recycle errors with Altme these days ...anyone else? |
Sunanda 7-Oct-2005 [757] | Loads.....Almost unusable some days. |
Ladislav 7-Oct-2005 [758] | try to click on a group with unchanged contents first |
Henrik 7-Oct-2005 [759] | any time table on a new altME? or maybe just one built on the 1.3 SDK if it's possible? |
[unknown: 9] 8-Oct-2005 [760] | Soon. |
Tomc 8-Oct-2005 [761] | and so on , and so on ... :^) |
Graham 8-Oct-2005 [762] | soon: join "so" "on" |
Pekr 8-Oct-2005 [763] | Reichart - we need new Altme or at least please encap old altme in 1.3 SDK. I got at least 5 or 6 crashes (invalid datatype during recycle) in last week ... |
[unknown: 9] 8-Oct-2005 [764] | Yup. Working on it. |
Graham 11-Oct-2005 [765] | Quick fix for AltME - store the last text sent in a buffer so it doesn't get lost if Altme discos on you at the time you send it - thereby resulting in data loss. |
[unknown: 9] 12-Oct-2005 [766] | yup, old, and still on the list for the next rev. |
BrianW 15-Oct-2005 [767] | silly question - is there a way to increase display font size in AltME? |
Tomc 15-Oct-2005 [768] | unfortunatly after clicking the big "A" little "A" icon .... decrese monitor resolution is all |
BrianW 31-Oct-2005 [769] | How far are we from AltME for OS X? I'm only on this PC for about an hour a day, and I'd love to spend some of the other time on AltME. |
Henrik 31-Oct-2005 [770] | I guess we'd need the OSX SDK first... |
[unknown: 9] 31-Oct-2005 [771] | Yup. |
Allen 6-Nov-2005 [772] | I have some clients who would benefit from Altme, if it was possible to control which users can be seen by others. ie not just private groups, but private users. This is handy for organising sales channel partners, where you want them to feel they have a direct line to the people in your office, (but can't see the other sales partners), and for staff they can maintain & respond to all channel partners requests from one simple tool |
[unknown: 9] 6-Nov-2005 [773] | This was asked for a couple of times in the past. Currently AltME does not have a way to do this. It is on the list though. |
Terry 7-Nov-2005 [774] | Of course, if you want to make changes, you can build your own AltMe clone, as this 'list' of future AltMefeatures are likely vapourware? |
[unknown: 9] 7-Nov-2005 [775] | Wow, did someone forget to change the monkey diapers in the peanut gallery? You and Graham sure seem ornery. |
Terry 7-Nov-2005 [776x2] | Reichart, ever since Altme came out, you've been speaking of the "list".. not sure how many years so far. What was the last update, scrolling? If you don't want to update Altme, that's your perogative, but the "soon" and "it's on the list" vapourware speak only bears on your reputation. I know.. I do the same thing :) |
So if you want to get things done, you positively have to understand at any given point in time what is the most important thing to get done right now and if you're not doing it, you're not making progress at the fastest possible rate. -- Joel on Software I'm guessing you're a 'switched on' kind of guy.. so.. .. Altme simply isn't one of your priorities.
