[!AltME] Discussion about AltME
older newer | first last |
Sunanda 7-Jun-2006 [1597] | I tend to automatically do a ctrl+a ctrl+c ctrl+s to send an Altme message (under windows) At least then the message is on the clipboard if Altme decides to thow it away. But that's hardly a 21st century solution for an x-intenet product. |
Pekr 7-Jun-2006 [1598] | good trick ... but the truth is, that it would not hurt to temporarily save message first, then to try to send ... |
Sunanda 7-Jun-2006 [1599] | Yes -- Altme could do with a retreive last posting icon....Graham's Synapse does that. |
Henrik 7-Jun-2006 [1600] | and a small "Sending..." message. |
Graham 7-Jun-2006 [1601x2] | actually synapse chat maintains a list of all you type .. but only the last message is accessible |
If Carl is working on new improvements to Altme, why not ask him for this functionality?
Pekr 7-Jun-2006 [1603] | I would let Carl working on R3 :-) |
[unknown: 9] 7-Jun-2006 [1604] | Good Idea, we will try to get this in the next build. |
Ingo 7-Jun-2006 [1605] | If you take it one step further you can make it possible to write messages while not connected, and send them automatically on the next connection. (Maybe after asking for confirmation if it's more than month since they've been written .... you get the idea ;-) |
Henrik 9-Jun-2006 [1606] | seems that I lose connection to rebol.net as well as AltME when it goes down. |
james_nak 9-Jun-2006 [1607] | Perhaps you can run a tracert to rebol.net when it happens. |
Thør 17-Jun-2006 [1608x2] | Hi! I've just downloaded AltME 1.2.3 and installed it., and after rebooting, I noticed that the "installer" added AltME to the Startup folder, and I don't remember clicking on any option that says something like "Automatically run upon booting up." IMHO the user should be given a choice whether to add AltME to the startup folder or not. PS In case I did select the option (by accident, more likely , as I was sleepy at the time I installed it), I'd be thnakful if you could point it out; and of course, my apologies. :D |
Tried synching to the RebGUI discussion twice, but got disconnected at more or less the same percentage. Is it possible to have AltME download the "chat files" on a per "number of messages" basis, instead of downloading the entire chat file in one session? That way people having synching problems like myself could at least download the messages from the discussion group a little at a time until the entire "chat file" is downloaded, rather than be frustrated when we get disconnected at 99% and retry synching again. It will also lessen the annoyance of other people seeing several dots made by the same poster. Just my 2 cents. Cheers!
Gabriele 17-Jun-2006 [1610] | Thor, there is an option for automatically run on boot, so you may have checked that. |
Thør 17-Jun-2006 [1611] | Thanks Gabriele. Now I'm sure I was half awake when I installed the new version. :D |
Thør 26-Jun-2006 [1612] | Could someone please tell me what's new with AltME 1.2.5? |
Tomc 26-Jun-2006 [1613] | the 5 |
DideC 27-Jun-2006 [1614] | lol |
james_nak 29-Jun-2006 [1615x2] | I just created a couple of worlds but when I try to start either one of them I get "Altme Error: Cannot open Altme Server. Is this server already running?" The answer is no. The world seems to exists as it can be checked via the website and is reachable. Any ideas? I have another world (a different one) running on this comp. |
Never mind. I stopped and restarted one of the worlds and now they all work.
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1617] | My first recycle error with 1.1.28 beta ... on hitting a group I've already read. 400 setting. Changed it back to 100. |
DideC 6-Jul-2006 [1618] | 1.1.28 ?? Mine is 1.2.5. I can't believe I have missed 23 updates !! |
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1619] | 1.1.28 is higher than 1.2.5 ? |
Gabriele 6-Jul-2006 [1620x3] | 1. |
1.1.28 is still running on view 1.2
1.2.5 should fix that bug
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1623x3] | Hmm. |
My says .. beta | |
the splash screen says 1.1 (12 ) beta
Henrik 6-Jul-2006 [1626] | what does it say in the window title? |
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1627x2] | 1.1.28 |
Have I got a really old beta ?
Volker 6-Jul-2006 [1629] | there is a little release-blog on altmes site. |
Henrik 6-Jul-2006 [1630] | I think that beta is 2-3 releases old, Graham |
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1631] | ok. |
Henrik 6-Jul-2006 [1632] | and there was a point where the upgrade had to be done manually, which is probably why you are still running it. |
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1633] | How handy! |
Volker 6-Jul-2006 [1634] | but vwithout version-info. the linux-altme is 1.1.29 IIRC, thats 16-mar. http://www.altme.com/ |
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1635] | where to download latest beta? |

Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1638] | Wonderful *** AltME ERROR *** Sorry, AltME found an error while it was starting up. This should never happen, but it looks like it just did. Volker 6-Jul-2006 [1642x2] | :) |
looks like they somehow mixed versions. "ctx-text: context bind ctx-text system/view" that feature is somewhat new. does it try to load new source with the old exe?
Graham 6-Jul-2006 [1644x2] | let me find it again. |
downloaded it twice ..same error each time.
Volker 6-Jul-2006 [1646] | works here. but i started with that version. some updat-confusion? |
