[!AltME] Discussion about AltME

[unknown: 5]
2-Mar-2006
[1068x2]
I'm getting a lot of "invalid data type during recycle" messages
in the new Altme. I got them like 4 times in a row when trying to
click on the !Altme world and then decided to click another world
and then come back into this one and was finally able to.
But that is what beta's are all about.

[1071]
yes, of course it is, it was never solved ...

Funny thing,

my internet connection is practically dead, no email, no webserving,
but AltME still works ...

ingo, yeah it's pretty cool that way. I could even connect, when
ping didn't work!

has anybody been able to use the file transfer ? I tried to send
jean-Francois show.r but did not work ?
Henrik

[1075x2]
you need to create a new work to work with filetransfers
work = world

Paul: this altme still uses a 1.2.10 REBOL, so that crash is still
there. The OSX has 1.3.2, which means that a 1.3.2 for Win32 is
not far behind.
A linux build is still planned for soon (but there is a reason I
did not captialize the L in linux in this sentence - it's on my bad
list this week)..

Offf-topic but does anyone know what the file size limit is on shared
files?
Carl

3MB
Once it moves to 1.3.2 it will be unlimited (because seek mode is
supported)

Thanks Carl.
Wow. I better not tell my programming staff..they use .net and everything
is huge!

hmm, so current bet Windows we use uses still 1.2.10 internally?

what's the rule for syncing?
does everything sync?
Henrik

[1087]
graham: don't sync while drunk
Graham

[1088]
nps .. never been drunk in my life.

me neither, strange coincidence

lol lol
That cheered me up from my Linux blues.
And Pekr, yes still on 1.2 but not for long!
(It is matter of stability testing, always advancing in increments
to reduce multivariate bugs)

only files you look at sync?
never heard of the great leap forward Carl?
Carl
2-Mar-2006
[1096x2]
Small files autosync. There is a threshold.
I only get one great leap per month around here.
Graham

full moon?
Carl

[1099]
The threshold will be setable in the options at some point.

[1100]
so how much of IOS are you going to move to Altme?
Carl
2-Mar-2006
[1101x2]
Another variable will be how many simultaneous uploads/downloads.
Right now it does them all at the same time.
On IOS, not sure yet. The merge happens on R3 timeline.

the filesharing thing, is that kind of a module? if so, will it be
possible in future versions to write your own modules?
james_nak
2-Mar-2006
[1104]
Good question.
Carl
2-Mar-2006
[1105x2]
Yes, AltME is all modules. See the mods dir of your install directory.
Yes, that is in the plans.
Graham

[1107]
using LNS for file sharing?
Carl
2-Mar-2006
[1108]
That is for the son of AltME, the great and powerful Altissimo.
Graham

[1109]
So, Altme is to be rewritten using LNS?
james_nak
2-Mar-2006
[1110]
Gabriele must be working on that great and powerful version.

Carl - that is strange ... becuase last weeks, I got really two-time-the-week
recycle crashes, mainly while still syncing and pressing groups quickly
to "unred" them :-) No such problem with new beta yet .... but maybe
it is too early to tell, however surprised that it is build on 1.2.10
....
Altissimo, Rebol 3.0, new AltME build ... what a news are leaking
:-)
what happened to /Coop (whatever it was meant to be)? :-)
Graham
2-Mar-2006
[1114]
that was for the chickens
Carl

[1115x2]
Pekr: on no recycle, just luck. It is not gone yet.
A lot going on. Coop is not dead, but we are going to build it differently,
and it has a lot of overlap with the REBOL Central idea. So, it
probably will be both those things somehow, but not until R3 is ready
(with R/S built in)

R3 roadmap announcement anytime soon now? :-)
