rebol view on ubuntu 5.10 browser/mail integration

 [1/8] from: cyrill::nitzsche::gmx::at at: 16-Oct-2005 22:48

Hi! Sorry, for this probably very newby question: All versions of view 1.3, including windows ones called via wine, didn't integrate with system default browsers/mail clients. I'm also not aware of any properties files to adjust these settings. However there's no problem to download any files from rebol sites. Only when a mail or browser button is clicked in rebview there's exactly no reaction. Thanks for any ideas Cyrill

Well I'm problay not the best person to answer but will try.First make user your user.r file has your correct email settings.I use Mandriva 2006 and can send mail when user.r is set up correctly.As for the browser problem, I have not set that up on Linux but if I not wrong you should do that from the console with browser/"the path" ?Others will chime in with more help

No, the browser command doesn't work either. Meanwhile I found rebols bug database and therein two open tickets about this issue (Jan and Dec 2004). Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this is easy to fix by implementing functions to set the browser and mail client paths in user.r. Or is linux compatibility not a main focus of rebol development? Regards, Cyrill

First I made a typo-it is set browser/"the path" Second user.r does store your email settings Third, many Rebollers do use Linux but is not the majority Fourth, I would suggest you get/install Altme get it here: http://www.safeworlds.com/download.html that is the main place people are hanging these days including many on Linux when you have it installed,send me a private note with your real name/alias/email address and I will have you added.I use Altme on Mandriva 2006 so see no problem using on Ubuntu

Or is CN> linux compatibility CN> not a main focus of rebol development? Allowing users to set the browser command is a security issue. The SET-BROWSER-PATH function is available only on beta releases of View. It will be necessary to find out a different mean to set the browser path. Anyway, you should be able to make BROWSE work by adding a symlink from /usr/bin/netscape to your browser; there might still be problems with argument passing, but it should work in most cases. Thanks for tip. Unfortunately it only gets me to the next bug: sh: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"' sh: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file I get it when I'm clicking a www button and also with the browse command and with all urls I tried. However with a newer version of wine (0.0.2005.07.25) the windows version runs well. I'll use this one since it seems to be the better maintained version. Thanks and regards, Cyrill

Got the windows version of Rebol to run with a newer version of wine. I'll use this one. AltME also runs after symlinking libXaw6 to 7. Couldn't send you an email, because your provider is blacklisting mine. For granting me an AltME account, please use: Name: Cyrill Nitzsche Alias: Cyrill (or Kyros) Email: [cyrill--nitzsche--gmx--at] Thanks, Cyrill
