AdrianS: 6-Dec-2012 | Doc, would this Linux server you could provide be able to run VMs with OS X and Windows in order to do multi-platform automated builds? I'm thinking we could set things up like Unity does (see the link below). JetBrains provides TeamCity (the continuous integration server) for free to OS projects with an active community. http://blogs.unity3d.com/2011/10/21/build-engineering-and-infrastructure-how-unity-does-it/
DocKimbel: 7-Dec-2012 | From the Unity link: "Most of these are virtual machines running Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux." I though Apple was explicitly forbidding to install Mac OS X on anything other than Apple hardware? Do they sell special licenses for VM?

[unknown: 9]: 1-Jan-2006 | Yeksoon, I don't think IOS is where topics should be had, but offering a public IOS system that does "something" could be cool to show off. Sort of like a model house. No? Peter, I actually did not know who ran Rebol.org (see! My point exactly about -centralizing information, :-) ) I think we could work together though. As far as I'm concerned, anything built for RebolCentral.org will be open and free for trade. Perhaps we can build and lock down templates that get carried to the other sites to create unity. I see no reason to replicate anything as well. In other words, if possible, we build one database of all content (perhaps what is already on Rebol.org) and leave it there, simply build a review system that points to it. Most download sites work this way. They are just a clearing house to other sites.

Maxim: 29-Sep-2006 | but the basic issue with the REBOL community in general is its lack of unity.... Most of us are free thinkers. We do our own, cause we can ! :-)

Andreas: 2-Mar-2011 | If the Unity launcher (at least I think that's how the launchbar in the netbook thing is called) still uses .desktop files, it's probably only a matter of finding the associated .desktop file and modifying it to use Terminal=true
BrianH: 2-Mar-2011 | Or rather making associated desktop files. It turns out that the menu editor included is for the GNOME menu, not the Unity menu. There is no editor for the Unity menu. I'm going to try to figure out what needs to be done.
ddharing: 15-Apr-2011 | I'm running Ubuntu Desktop. I've tried it on two laptops -- both with and without Unity.

Janko: 21-Apr-2009 | plugins that offer hardware accelerated rendering are not that rare but there is none except shockwave (and now unity slowly) that have any worthwile base of users that have it already installed. This one would be great if it gets forward becuase it's the "google's" plugin, but for games it also needs sound, good input / fullscreen switching and to compete to ston3d and unity physics

Robert: 22-Jan-2010 | Has anyone played around with Unity-3D?
Geomol: 22-Jan-2010 | I was head of a project 2-3 years ago for the danish team behind Unity to port one of their games to a newer version of Unity. I found Unity 3D to have many features, but was too clumpsy to really work with. It may have changed, as I haven't looked at it since.
Janko: 22-Jan-2010 | ah, that was one of the first games I remember that they were showing as showcase of unity .. but I never could find a PC version of it to try it
Janko: 22-Jan-2010 | I plan to do something in my free time in a 3d engine .. I need that it works in a browser so unity seems the most obvious choice, adobe director is expensive and probably outdated, stonetrip / shiva seems even more IDE/GUI heavy than unity giving me even less controll (although I am not 100% sure bcause I haven't digged really deep in any of those.) Then there is Java (which has Ardor3d which is very early in the making , and jme which is somewhat "out") but starting with it would be at a lot more low level than unity and similar game engines, with no real docs and tools as far as I can see.
Janko: 22-Jan-2010 | those are the options I saw, and unity was winning, that's why I am interested in your opinion on it
Geomol: 22-Jan-2010 | I helped some friends about the same time, that were starting a game developing company. I had a little experience there first with Torque before they changed to Reality Engine, which used C# and C++. I left after a few months, because I saw, it wouldn't happen. 2 years later, they stopped the development. Unity had a development tool with lists of content and parameters to set. At first it looked good, but in practical work, it fast became a huge mess. It was difficult to find and set parameters, so a lot of time was wasted in the process of creating a game. The porting, I was doing, ended up being a totally recreate in some areas, like the animations. The data couldn't be kept and converted from the old version to the new, but had to be recreated. I even tried to figure out the binary files using REBOL, but was very hard, as much of it wasn't documented. That a bad sign for me, when we talk going from one version to a newer one with the same engine. But it could have changed in the last years, I don't know. Haven't looked.
