JoshF: 6-Mar-2011 | About disreb: Sorry to be unclear originally. At the moment, it's R2 only (I'm currently sticking with the latest version of R2 because I understand that it has a more stable GUI), however I am very willing to incorporate changes for R3. I'm not yet sure what the best fashion of collaboration with the Google code site is, but hopefully I'll have some time to investigate tomorrow. Sorry for the late reply, but I have imperfect access to AltMe (it's firewalled at work and I forgot my password (ha!) so I don't have it working on the computer I'm programming disreb with). @Oldes, I hope you find it useful should you chance to use it! Thanks!

denismx: 10-Oct-2010 | My world, linux version running on linux machine, has just become unreachable since noon after working for years. Nothing changed on that side - the altme.com web site reports it as reachable. I can connect to it from the linux box it's on, but not from the W XP box sitting alongside nor any other.
Evgeniy Philippov: 11-Jan-2012 | Official 0.4.2 available on AltME site works OK on gNewSense and auto-upgrades to 1.2.25
Kaj: 11-Jan-2012 | The beta links on the site are dangerous and should have been removed years ago

BrianH: 21-Nov-2009 | What is the license of Boron? I've been having trouble figuring that out from the posted site. Is it BSD-compatible, to allow binary linking?
NickA: 23-Jun-2010 | There's no 'system, let alone system/options/cgi. Is there any method for retrieving GET or POST data? I'd work agressively at implementing some useful web site applications with Boron if there was even rudimentary CGI support.

GiuseppeC: 3-Jun-2009 | Try to search using google: "rebol prototype based objects site:rebol.com" You will find nothing apart "Core product information" and something on "Rebol/View" then only in the lower part of the page you will findd something in REBOL3 docs.
Graham: 29-Dec-2009 | I wrote one ... just have to find it .. the site I posted it to is down.

BrianH: 2-Jan-2010 | OK, now that we have 2.7.7 released (even though there is more work to do, i.e. platforms and the SDK), it is time to look ahead to 2.7.8 - which is scheduled for release in one month on February 1. The primary goal of this release is to migrate to REBOL's new development infrastructure. This means: - Migrating the RAMBO database to a new CureCode project and retiring RAMBO. - Using Carl's generation code for the manual to regenerate the R2 manual, so we can start to get to work updating it. - Porting the chat client to R2 using the new functions and building a CHAT function into R2 similar to the R3 version. The R2 chat client might be limited to the ASCII character set, though support for the Latin-1 character set might be possible. Still text mode for now, though if anyone wants to write a GUI client (Henrik?) we can put it on the official RT reb site accessible from the View desktop. The server is accessed through a simple RPC protocol and is designed to be easily scriptable. It turns out that Carl already rewrote the installer for 2.7.something, but it was turned off because of a couple minor bugs that we were able to fix in 2.7.7. With any luck, only minor fixes to the registry usage will be needed and we'll be good to go. As for the rest, it's up to you. Graham seems to have a good tweak to the http protocol, and others may want to contribute their fixes.
Maxim: 14-Jan-2010 | this latest web site effort is the perfect place to integrate all the docs and ACCUMLATE the information into a single and cohesive reference. as a new user, old user and transitioning user, having all the information in one page is best for all cases. -you don't end up in the wrong docs (new users). -you can easily see the scope of the improvements (old users comming back or tempted to) -you can much more easily understand and grasp the changes when they are comparable in the same sheet (transition).
Maxim: 29-Jun-2010 | its not *supposed* to be an issue, but I have had issues where it was. I had read on the net and others where also having write issues on their data disks. it as even flagged at a MS site... buts been a while (like 3 years) so I don't remember all the details of the problem.

jocko: 14-Jan-2010 | because of web site availability problems, i have changed my site : you will find here the three "experimental" extensions that I have done to learn the extension mechanism : a text to speech extension, a matlab engine extension, a simple windows api extension with some useful calls : http://www.colineau.fr/rebol/R3_extensions.html
BrianH: 29-Jan-2010 | Because we have been working on other things, mostly R2 and the web site (and R3 mezzanines in my case).
Robert: 11-Feb-2010 | Max, I don't know what you do but the overall concept would be: 1. Loading the DLL dynamically 2. Finding all requested functions dynamically (Windows has a call for this where you provide a string of the function name (just can't remember the call name)). 3. Implementing a generic R3 extension function that will be marshalled on Rebol site so that the first parameter will the function name and than all paraemters (I would use a block here). 4. Rearrange all this to call the Win32 function.

Maxim: 7-Jun-2010 | when I went to the webkit site is was severely under-documented.
BrianH: 26-Jul-2010 | That means that styles get functional names, not graphical names. Layouts should make sense if the user is color-blind. It is up to the theme designer (which may also be you, in a different role, or it may be someone on a theming site) to decide colors.
AdrianS: 22-Aug-2010 | Of course I don't expect that artwork can just be dropped in and we have a new look - I've done enough GUI work to know what the limitations can be. Still, even if the rendered look has to be reproduced programatically, there could be a benefit in starting to evaluate different proposals. A site like 99designs seems to be a pretty cheap way to get various ideas thrown around.
Pekr: 26-Aug-2010 | vivid.com si a porn-site though, so I think that VIVID is 1) not useable due to the factor mentioned 2) maybe too general name to google for? maybe vivid-gui.com would work though, dunno ... let's not opent the topic right now, there was something like 40 or more names suggested :-)
Steeve: 26-Aug-2010 | Today, I made some tests (again) with vectorial fonts using draw. And... It's not that bad when the gamma correction is... corrected. My test: font: ["verdana" size: 15] gamma 2.0 pen none http://sites.google.com/site/rebolish/test-1/not_bad.png (look at the white text)
Pekr: 8-Sep-2010 | As for business apps - that sounds fine, it is just that we did not see e.g. list of styles, you might need. Is there e.g. a tree-view? Tabs? Table is there IIRC (there is a screenshot on henrik's site)
Graham: 24-Sep-2010 | I downloaded R3.exe from henrik's site ... and the gui but he says it might be caching old versions
Rebolek: 24-Sep-2010 | For the left window from my screeshot I used my newest working version, for the right window I used r3gui from Henrik's site.
Pekr: 12-Oct-2010 | Henrik - question to your site being down on ML. I know that it is now available via IP address, but dunno if you want to get it published. Feel free to answer on ML.
Robert: 11-Dec-2010 | I think I will add the R3 build we use to the web-site as well...
Cyphre: 23-Dec-2010 | New 'X-mas' release of R3-GUI is available for download at http://www.rm-asset.com/code/downloads/ top-level changes: -smarter face update mechanism -improved dynamic panel content handling -internal optimizations and more system-friendly redesign -cleanup of obsolete code parts some more detailed notes: - panels can now contain normal, VISIBLE faces, HIDDEN faces (just invisible, but taking the same space as the visible faces), IGNORED faces (invisible, and not taking any space), FIXED (visible, but not resizing with the panel, having a fixed position and size) - the ON-CONTENT actors for all panels (HGROUP, VGROUP, VPANEL, HPANEL) now are as much compatible with series function as practical, taking an integer index, high-level function can take a gob or a face to specify the position as well - Data optimization: FACES attribute removed to not need to store and maintain the same information twice, risking the conflicts (they were already present, order of faces was not identical) You can also download the latest R3.exe from our site which contains LOAD-GUI that directly loads the actual release. This way you are always using the latest R3GUI codebase. We'll be updating the 'old' documentation soon to be up-to-date with our current R3GUI version. So interested developers can start using it for real or participate on the project.
Henrik: 13-Apr-2011 | it'll be up on the site, once Robert gets around to it. I just didn't want to spam this group with a list.

Janko: 27-Jan-2010 | for all the worried, Carl twitted "Wrapping up website changes. Was a huge, intense project, but had to be done. The site is much more manageable as a result."
Maxim: 1-Feb-2010 | the new R3 web site is SOOOO much better to navigate on..... yeah, it doesn't look like a million, but at least it doesn't get in your way, like the old site did. just tought I'd share my POV.
Pekr: 1-Feb-2010 | Max - it is just a structure, which was reshapen, and the page was also de-stylled. The layout, styling and gfx of the new site is not done yet, as well as front page segmentation for particular target groups interests ...
Pekr: 2-Feb-2010 | no, nothing ... not even web site changes anymore .... so - R3 black-out for more than 2 months ....
Maxim: 2-Feb-2010 | right now flushing out (finishing) the extensions is actually the most enabling. so: 1. Releasing the view host-kit with improved extensions would be the first step into finishing WHAT the first R3 beta will be, in terms of architecture. Right now, there are a lot of datatypes missing, and a proper REBOL callback mechanism *** with return value*** is probably the most frustrating issue with R3 extensibility. image and vector types are critical to extensions... please they have to be part of next extensions. 2. Schemes!!! with a lot of work ALREADY done, plus willing and able helpers, Carl, you should REALLY look into this and orient the spontaneous team that is dying to get your attention so they can proceed FOR YOU. 3. Documentation ... I'd say.. .TWO complete and final pages a day... no need to do more. At that rate, the documentation will be much more helpfull within weeks. But sections of it will start to be worthy of being called documentation... right now... I'd call it the "sprawled notes" part of the site.
BrianH: 6-Feb-2010 | He's still sing the queue-with-timeouts priority model. The hostkit got put on hold while some of the timed out items were handled: R2, the web site, and now bug fixes.
BrianH: 15-Feb-2010 | Gregg, as for the STRICT-EQUAL? doc string length limit not allowing us to have its most important behavior mentioned, we don't have evidence yet that this is the case, and it seems unlikely. Noone mentioned the case sensitivity needing to be there before, and now noone has tried to phrase the doc string accordingly. I suggested that a documentation ticket be submitted with new phrasing, and just mentioned the limit (and its rationale) for the information of the person doing the submitting. We need to have some limit on the length doc strings for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that it is good to be concise. Many built-in functions can't have thorough documentation in their doc strings no matter how long we make them. The doc string is just a smmary for some functions, a reminder for others. The full docs should go on the web site accessible from HELP/doc. And if there isn't a web site for one of the system words, or if it's wrong or outdated (which is a lot at this stage) then report it.
Pekr: 20-Feb-2010 | Does anyone know, if protecting R3 Docs Recent changes site is intentional? It served me well to look into new stuff.
Pekr: 17-May-2010 | the biggest problem is not the development, or the lack of thereof, but the lack of communication. I think that one short message per week or two on Twitter would not hurt :-) Just last two working days, I experienced the same - I am leading our corporate site roll-out to 8 branches abroad. Marketing managers involved. While I worked like mad for last week, I started to receive emails, asking for the status update - and that's it - ppl just want to plan a bit their things. When I explained other branches, what I am busy with, they stopped asking, and I will update them once per week, till I finish the job ... and that's it ... correct communications ....
BrianH: 12-Jun-2010 | We know that Carl being the only one with access to rebol.com pages is considered by Carl to be a bug in the permissions system of the rebol.com site, and that he is working on it.
Pekr: 11-Nov-2010 | hmm, we are preparing for the beta - finally! Carl is working on the Projects/Roadmap site, the list is gone and we will get new one. I wonder if we will be able to influence that. My bet is that we will kind of rush for beta, so things like tasking will be postponed for 3.1 :-)

Any suggestions or links for me to investigate? Thanks.
PatrickP61: 2-Aug-2011 | That is what I mean -- I'm confused by it. The Twitter developers site asks for Name, Description, Website, of the application. Do I just enter dummy information here or am I createing another version of the same twitter app? Just not sure what this is asking for.

Group: !REBOL3 Source Control ... How to manage build process [web-public]
Fork: 28-Oct-2010 | Github is a good site, but there are a few issues, such as how they do not acknowledge the .r extension as Rebol. I've gotten them to do .r2 .r3 and .rebol however.
BrianH: 28-Oct-2010 | I would like to see a similar site for Mercurial - it likely has advantages over Git, particularly on Windows.
BrianH: 28-Oct-2010 | It just makes me distrust that site. What if the other "advantages" are just as completely incorrect?
Fork: 29-Oct-2010 | The general model is that if you plan on making changes to the codebase, you usually would "fork" (lowercase) the project on the GitHub site. It is not typical for people to give write access to others on their repository. So that URL ( git://github.com/rebolsource/r3-hostkit.git ) is read-only.
Fork: 29-Oct-2010 | GitHub hides the address and replaces it with your user name on the site... if you have one registered. But anyone who clones the repository will have access to the address you list.
Pekr: 30-Oct-2010 | Now someone should really write some short docs. This is so complex and surely was not created for normal mortal, who just wants to download few source files and build a distro? So I downloaded Tortoise Git, naively thinking this is all I need. No, so I installed Git preview version (not full msysGit). Now - what should I do? I created a directory called host-kit, right pressed mouse, and chose "create repository here" or something like that. Now once again I press right mosue button, and try either git-clone, or Git sync, but it does nothing ... I think my problem might be (apart from being too dumb and not willing to spend tonnes of my free time with such complex stuff): - I am required to have some kind of account at target site - I don't have it somehow linked with SSH stuff (did not choose to use my putty installation during the installation phase) How do I get the actual copy of R3 Host Kit? There might be plenty users as me, willing just to download recent sources, and build, not to commit anything ...
Andreas: 1-Nov-2010 | The official site for Git is http://www.git-scm.com/(if you want to add a link).
Group: Red ... Red language group [web-public]
Dockimbel: 29-Mar-2011 | I think that the language name alone is not the typical query that someone would do. Here's two examples: - Tiobe index relies on "<language> programming" as its search query to mesure the popularity of a programming language (see http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/tpci_definition.htm) - For Cheyenne web server (not a language, but uses a common name), people coming to the web site with only "cheyenne" as a search keyword are very few. A vast majority use "cheyenne server" or "cheyenne web" or "cheyenne rebol". Anyway, after been online for a few months/years, Cheyenne's web site appeared on first page if you search for that word only (while there's really a *lot* of others resources not related to this web server). There's also another point to consider. If the target name is not strongly associated with an existing brand or a popular product, you'll see a lot of unrelated results on first page (that's the case for "Red"). So, AFAIU page ranking algorithm, once Red language will spread larger, I'm ready to bet that the cross-reference links of Red-related site (and back-references to Red's home site) will push it rapidly on the first page, or even in the top 3 list.
Kaj: 29-May-2011 | If you can't think of anything to do this Sunday, you could watch the page counter on the Red site :-)
Kaj: 31-May-2011 | You'll note that only a few trolls have responded to the article, and one person who already knew REBOL. This is typical when you introduce something that people don't understand. They'll hold back from responding in fear of saying something that makes them look stupid. However, so far four thousand of them have traveled from the article to the Red site, which is more than we get on a typical Syllable article
Kaj: 21-Jun-2011 | I can't sell web sites because my site builder is running in REBOL, which people can't get installed
Dockimbel: 29-Jun-2011 | I will improve the web site that make that difference more clear.
Dockimbel: 3-Jul-2011 | I will be waiting for you to upgrade your bindings before making the announcement (hope we can do it tomorrow). I have some things to add in the specification and red-lang.org site to dust off in the meantime (well, tomorrow would be nice ;-)).
Dockimbel: 3-Jul-2011 | Going to bed now, will update the web site tomorrow and post an announcement on the blog.
Dockimbel: 5-Jul-2011 | I will make post a news on freshmeat.net tonight (I still have some things to change on the web site).
Dockimbel: 31-Aug-2011 | About Blogger: this platform is a real PIA in many ways. When I will have some time, I will look at how to move out, probably going to WordPress, or setting up my own blog using the script from Cheyenne's web site (I would need to integrate an anti-spam service like Akismet in such case).
MikeL: 28-Sep-2011 | I appreciate it. I will try a few attempts when running behind the firewall. I want to put together a simple regression package for a web site using CURL and REBOL and/or RED.
BrianH: 6-Nov-2011 | Never mind about the 2.0, even the NDK site lists it an an "other platform". I can't remember the last time I saw someone still stuck on 2.0.
Kaj: 18-Nov-2011 | Mike, I got the DLL versions for Windows from the official Windows download from the GTK site
Kaj: 18-Nov-2011 | Nope, still the same bundle on the site
Kaj: 2-Jan-2012 | There are seven retweets, though, and the page view counter on the Red site has suddenly broken down, but last night shortly after publication it had already gone up by two thousand
Kaj: 2-Jan-2012 | Note that there are many links in the article, so not even all readers will click to the Red site
Evgeniy Philippov: 26-Jan-2012 | I've skimmed the BNF doc at the red-lang site. It seems it is rather vague and unverified. I think maybe I need to build a Coco/R EBNF grammar and to check the grammar formally, for unabiguity and other grammar errors.
Evgeniy Philippov: 31-Jan-2012 | I am currently entering a formal EBNF Coco/R .ATG grammar for Red/System as specified in the BNF doc at the site.
Oldes: 7-Feb-2012 | It does not sound like much creative work... you can just download some existing theme like http://www.bloggerthemes.net/heliumified/demo and tweek it a little bit... but it requires access to the site.
