Arnold: 17-Sep-2012 | I'll finish my new CMS first, or I should say publishing system together with the scripts I put on rebol.org lately. Then I will be able to publish code and story easier within my pages. I don't want the massive make-doc-pro and makedoc2 isn't my flavor. The ancient version from Chris Ross-Gill looks good but has some choices I dislike. So I am struggling with it too make it easy to use and with it I want to be able to generate a pdf version using Gabriele's pdf-maker script.
DocKimbel: 21-Oct-2012 | Doc-strings are now allowed in Red/System function spec: https://github.com/dockimbel/Red/commit/b7f46eafe75b43f43d7cb282d4415e89c2858a5e So, who's going to write a short and nice REBOL script now to extract them (extracting also the context where they are defined)? :-) Ideally, those info should be collected into a simple nested block structure that can be easily processed for generating formatted text output, HTML, PDF (using pdf-maker lib), ... (take make-doc.r script as example of parser/emitter separation, and plugable emitters). |

Jean-François: 30-May-2007 | That's great Geomol. Yes the pdf-maker docs are a good example. I would stick with gabriele's color for a start.

Henrik: 21-Sep-2006 | if we had the possibility of using bitmaps in postscript or pdf-maker, then you could solve it in rebol
Graham: 21-Sep-2006 | pdf-maker doesn't support pdf forms yet.
Graham: 21-Sep-2006 | so, VID => pdf using pdf-maker?
Henrik: 21-Sep-2006 | you could do that if pdf-maker supported bitmaps properly

btiffin: 3-Aug-2007 | Carl wants such a list for form, mold, to string!, format (but that's R3), add the serial form, score some points and help the beginners in one grand pdf-maker datatype file. Not much to ask, is it John? :)
btiffin: 3-Aug-2007 | I think it'll be a very useful and worthy entry for DocBase, but it would also be nice to use Gabriele's PDF-MAKER or other page layout for a nice reference sheet printout.
btiffin: 3-Aug-2007 | So...get RT to open DocBase and I'll start right now, oh yeah and R3 beta for access to format :) Kidding... I was going to be playing with PDF-MAKER today, to see if I can add print functionality to the Desktop Librarian...maybe I'll use this as a good way learn the dialect. So unless someone else steps up...I'll take a kick at it, for R2 datatypes anyway.
btiffin: 3-Aug-2007 | I was just kidding...I'm about half way through using your pdf-maker (v2) to document the R2 datatypes regarding to string! form mold. Blog http://www.rebol.net/r3blogs/0092.htmlbut like I everything I do now-a-days, it comes pre-expired :)
btiffin: 3-Aug-2007 | To all...by the way, check out Gabriele's pdf-maker.r in rebol.org (the docs have a pointer to the new in-progress work for pdfm2). Maybe we'll get printing from REBOL sooner than later. :)
Group: Make-doc ... moving forward [web-public]
btiffin: 24-Jan-2008 | My opinion; makedoc2.r is the preferred RT markup engine. I like to promote Gabriele's PDF-Maker as well. For DocBase, you need to get used to wikitext. Take a look at http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/documentation.r?script=makedoc2.r for a fairly complete view of the various tools at our disposal. Some are awesome domain enhancing tools such as John's nicomdoc with the math extensions.

Allen: 11-Feb-2005 | Has anyone looked at the online PDF proofing market? And adapted/utilised pdf-maker in that way?
Louis: 8-Aug-2005 | I'm getting the following message using pdf-maker: ** Script Error: pick expected index argument of type: number logic pair ** Where: emit-space ** Near: if k: select/case pick kern ** Press enter to quit...** Script Error: pick expected index argument of type: number logic pair ** Where: emit-space ** Near: if k: select/case pick kern ** Press enter to quit... Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Louis: 11-Aug-2005 | Gabriele, I'll look foreward to the update. Actually, I use pdf-maker all the time. This is the only time I have experienced a problem.
Louis: 11-Aug-2005 | Henrik, pdf-maker is great. I have one program that creates mailmerge letters from data in an object database. It creates a pdf file, allowing me to check each letter before printing it. I can also pick out just one letter in the file to print. Or, if the printer jams, it is easy to begin anew printing just the remaining letters. And, of course, I can use the program on any operating system. Nice.
Henrik: 11-Aug-2005 | I think there is great potential to unifying all the tools that are forming now: pdf-maker, AGG, SVG input and makedoc2. Allow these things to talk to eachother! imagine making a drawing in AGG or import an SVG into a DRAW and then use the very same block with layout-pdf. Future versions of makedoc could print pdfs as well as HTML through pdf-maker. by letting these tools use eachother, the combination could be a very fast and powerful document creation system.
Oldes: 22-Feb-2006 | Would it be possible to use PDF-maker to extract just a pure text from PDF files?
Graham: 3-Apr-2006 | Just wondering if it's possible to combine an existing pdf with the pdf-maker. What I need to do is draw over an existing pdf....
james_nak: 5-Apr-2006 | Gabriele, just tried out pdf-maker for the first time yesterday. Very nice and quite useful.
Joe: 1-Jun-2006 | Gabriele, will you have a pdf-maker 2 alpha ?
Gabriele: 2-Jun-2006 | btw, I just fixed a bug with the View 1.3 version of the pdf-maker and images.

Graham: 2-Aug-2006 | perhaps your version of pdf-maker.r is corrupted?
Graham: 25-Aug-2006 | Not sure .. I think I would want to see it at the pdf-maker level
Graham: 26-Aug-2006 | pdf-maker does layers?
Gabriele: 29-Aug-2006 | pdf-maker updated (docs almost finished)
Louis: 3-Sep-2006 | Does REBOL have to support unicode before PDF-Maker can support unicode?
Louis: 16-Sep-2006 | Somehow I lost the link to the PDF-Maker test site. Would someone please post it.
Louis: 16-Sep-2006 | For whatever it is worth, Gabriele, I use PDF-Maker regularly. It is core to some of my most important scripts. So, I very much appreciate your work.
Anton: 23-Nov-2006 | Gabriele, I have patched pdf-maker.r 1.27.1 of 3-Aug-2006 to make the dialect a little easier with images. Starting at line 1051, the changed lines are commented:
Anton: 24-Nov-2006 | I was thnking of having pdf-maker as an output format for bubble-doc.
DaveC: 31-May-2007 | I've just downloaded pdf-maker.r and I'd really appreciate some help to get going quickly. I've rotated a page +90 to get into landscape, but the texbox still renders the text in the same way as portrait. Do I have to rotate each textbox too? I also downloaded pdf-tables.r too. Does a table handle a page break itself? Talking of page breaks, in a long table which spans many pages, I'd like to render the column headings on each new page. Is there a variable I can track or an event I can listen for that lets me know that the text is about to flow to the next page. Thanks a lot.
Gabriele: 31-May-2007 | really? of pdf-maker?
Gabriele: 31-May-2007 | ah, 1.5.0 of pdf-tables. you should have 1.24.0 of pdf-maker
DaveC: 31-May-2007 | pdf-maker: 1.27.1 3-Aug-2006
DaveC: 7-Jun-2007 | Busy converting HTML template reports into PDF using PDF-Maker. Getting the hang of it now. The function which calculates the textbox height is providing most of the work. I'm calculating page space as text boxes are generated. As I think in point size, I've transposed mm2pt to give me a pt2mm function.
Robert: 9-Dec-2008 | Can PDF-Maker be used to create PDF-Forms that can be filled out by users with Acrobat Reader?
Gabriele: 12-May-2009 | the easiest way would be to change the pdf-maker code to actually produce what you need.
Janko: 12-May-2009 | I found an example of PDF from Haru library which uses all ISO8859 encoding 1 - 20 ... it is version PDF-1.3 , it does use the /Differences for each encoding, it also defines widths for them, I intend to look at it and somehow transfer it to pdf-maker .. but I am not sure how successfull I will be as pdf-maker seems quite complex beast
Oldes: 12-May-2009 | It's not possible to use utf8 encoding with pdf-maker ?
Oldes: 12-May-2009 | I wish to have more time to play a little bit with the pdf-maker
Janko: 12-May-2009 | it's very nice, but because of 1 letter that I can't generate in it Ch .. you have it too probably .. I need to find another solution .. and I have invoice nicely made in pdf-maker already
Graham: 22-Aug-2010 | Gab, is there going to be any user documentation for pdf-maker 2?
Graham: 23-Aug-2010 | Carl should use pdf-maker to generate PDFs of the online docs
Graham: 23-Aug-2010 | Is qtask using pdf-maker?
Graham: 26-Aug-2010 | I have this ... if not value? 'layout-pdf [ *do %pdf-maker.r ]

Brock: 30-Jan-2009 | The final output would be a printed version of the collection of drills that were selected, likely via PDF-maker , or just HTML.
Anton: 8-Feb-2009 | Gabriele is author of pdf-maker, yes.
Vladimir: 26-Apr-2009 | Will try it out, thanks Doc! As you said, I'll also try to use pdf-maker.r ...

btiffin: 15-Aug-2007 | Umm, it's not directly R3 related, but I think Gabriele's PDF-Maker.r is a fairly large step toward cross-platform printing. It's three flavour right now, pdf-maker.r in rebol.org, pdf-maker version 2 on Gabriele's site (the target for future work and with some wicked powerful REBOL directed typesetting) and inside the rebol.org qml-ed package with the ease of qml input, pumping out pdf. V2 at http://www.colellachiara.com/soft/PDFM2/is where x-platform printing may come from, methinks.
Dockimbel: 4-Sep-2008 | I was thinking about adding also a few other import filters for makedoc, pdf-maker dialect and View layouts, so something like this should be possible : write printer:// layout [...]
Group: Postscript ... Emitting Postscript from REBOL [web-public]
Henrik: 5-Apr-2006 | It was suggested in the PDF-Maker group that it could be possible to convert a DRAW block to postscript. I think that would be a good approach.
Graham: 7-Apr-2006 | I've only done bar code printing using bar code fonts .. not directly in pdf-maker.
Graham: 13-Apr-2006 | I take it that was much harder to do in pdf-maker.r ??
Henrik: 13-Apr-2006 | actually only the text was harder because in PS you point to a position and start writing, where you in PDF-maker need to define a text box before writing
Graham: 18-Apr-2006 | Gabriele, do you use the kerning for all text placement in pdf-maker?
Gabriele: 18-Apr-2006 | Graham: yes, and data is parsed from the Adobe Font Metrics file and included in pdf-maker.r for the 14 standard postscript fonts.
Graham: 22-Apr-2006 | I would have continued to use pdf-maker except there's no easy way to flow text like this.
Graham: 22-Apr-2006 | is a page I created in pdf-maker a few years ago.
Graham: 26-Apr-2006 | just a quick question .. was it hard/easy to do images in pdf-maker ?
Graham: 26-Apr-2006 | I suspect that by the time I finish it, Gabriele will have come out with a pdf-maker which will render mine obsolete!
Geomol: 13-Mar-2009 | :-) Do you do it using font metrics in pdf-maker, or is there another trick?
Group: Printing ... [web-public]
Dockimbel: 9-Sep-2008 | Thanks but this isn't really such a great piece of code (Windows API is doing the real job), even if it fills a gap in REBOL (at least for Windows). Btw, in my company, we're using Gab's pdf-maker for years now to generate and print all our documents. I made this library only because I needed a direct printing solution for a customer and I must admit it was a fun work to do. |
