Arnold: 19-May-2012 | Hi, I have a small problem playing an mp3 file I have so far player: "/Applications/Vox.app/Contents/MacOS/Vox" thissong: "/Users/Arnold/Music/A song.mp3" thatsong: "/Users/Arnold/Music/A-song.mp3" And then call reform [player thissong] call reform [player thatsong] Playing thissong will start the musicplayer, but no music was found and playing thatsong starts the player and is being played without problem. Because most of my mp3's and directories they are in have spaces in their names so starting to play them from REBOL gets hard this way. I tried to-file thissong but this produces "%/......&20song.mp3" so it was not successful. (Allthough thatsong just played without a problem) :( Any ideas please?
Arnold: 19-May-2012 | Another thing, I want to make an 'application' using REBOL that plays an mp3, an mp3 with a story for kids and I want to display the pictures from the book depending on maybe a timer(file) so the pictures are displayed acoording to the storyline. This also could be a helping aid for making presentations. I do not want to binary save my mp3 in the source of the application or in any other rebol-script so I just want to use the mp3 file and not convert it. Furthermore I do not want an external app to be started unless it can be done under the hood and/or it can be controlled by my app because the presentation could be paused by the user. Any ideas where and how to start such script.

Arnold: 14-Apr-2012 | Plugging in the mouse (non-usb port) seems conflicting with mounting my usb mp3 player. Unplugging the mouse made my mp3 player disks visible again.Well it is not consequent in this. After another try it took me some time to mount it because it didn't show up. After mounting I plugged in the mouse again. For else I cannot copy files. It worked. System hangs up on me or doesn't respond copying the 20th mp3. Enough testing for today.

Bo: 5-Jun-2013 | Carl has been talking for some time about integrating streaming protocols into Rebol (probably like h264, mpeg4, mp3, wmv, etc.). Is that something that could be plugged into the existing codebase rather directly, or will it take a lot of changes to make it work? |

Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | has anyone used the lame-enc.dll for converting stuff to mp3 ? http://www.fi.muni.cz/~qruzicka/Smid/man.htm.iso-8859-1
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | Lame ain't an MP3 encoder
Anton: 3-Jan-2005 | That's not what it says at mp3dev.org : "LAME is an LGPL MP3 encoder."
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | I want a way to generate mp3 voice mail .. this does the mp3 encoding.
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | there's win32 program out there called mpegrec.exe which records straight from mic or line in to mp3
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | uses lame as well for the mp3 encoding.
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | this is pretty cool .. using lame.exe and mpegrec.exe I can record voice to mp3 .. now to see if I can get it done using Rebol to control it all.
Graham: 3-Jan-2005 | simple as : mpegrec -o c:\temp\graham.mp3
Graham: 4-Jan-2005 | mp3 :)
[unknown: 5]: 11-Mar-2005 | Anyone else use quintessential mp3 player?
Pekr: 12-Mar-2006 | What I am simply a bit scared about is missing the chance by doing the things right this time. I would really hate to see someone pushing Carl to include mp3 inside, while the oter guy will complain he/she wants ogg, and next one will require something from Microsoft (wmv?):-)
Gabriele: 12-Mar-2006 | if you want mp3 then you need to write a plugin for it. but we're talking about all the reblets that need to save their data somewhere
Pekr: 31-Mar-2009 | I have never met with anything I could not handle. Gee, we are complaining about REBOL parser not being able to handle ANY format, while even lamers as me are being able to use 'parse in opposition to regexp? Why this possession? What is exact deal breaker? Isn't it a bit naive? Brian, really - what fishermen are you talking about? For anything more complicated than one-liner, you have to come up with script anyway. And if you store code into script, you can write few parse rules, no? Well, maybe it is me, who never uses load (I don't like the fact it mysteriosly does decoding of few things here or there - libraries, jpg, which is fixed in R3), but with REBOL string parsing, you can do many things. I don't even agree to Max opinion, that parse will let you down. Well, if you want to parse streamed mp3 binary content, maybe so, but for some general data format, specifically delimited? Come on :-)

shadwolf: 19-Apr-2005 | today you enter a secretary office there is windows XP every where you enter a publisher/graphist maker you have apple every where? As there is less publisher than secretary this explain as a short cut why there is sutch difference. When you enter a astronom office you have sun Sparc every where. As you get less astronom than plublisher you understand the difference betwin Apple and Sun :). Some people needs simplicity of use others need fiability of use. Then you have the rounding industry those building the sourrounded technologies in all cases they need to sell a lot this explain for example why a comon SONY MP3 sevice came with drivers to plug it to a PC equiped with windows and why they not giving apps and drvers to handle it under linux and unix.
shadwolf: 19-Apr-2005 | As every one (non ingeneer ) needs simple systems they adopt windows in majority more as Sony MP3 devices are designed to be used in the simpliest way this explain why people focus on windows this is part of it's actual success but this not means that windows is the best system this not means too that the other existing systems are not relevant :)

Graham: 29-Jan-2006 | Jaime, why not treat the marketing differently. Instead of marketing as a wireless router, market as a wireless chat server, or mp3 server with router facilities ?
[unknown: 5]: 31-Mar-2009 | Yes to save resources. For example, what if I just read an MP3 file into a word? I want to free that word so that it no longer is allocated to that data.
Geomol: 31-Mar-2009 | If you want to load more MP3s, it would be a good idea to reuse the same memory area. An example: >> f: func [/local blk] [blk: []] >> a: f == [] >> insert a 42 == [] >> a == [42] >> source f f: func [/local blk][blk: [42]] >> clear a == [] >> source f f: func [/local blk][blk: []] You see, A and BLK inside F points to the same memory. Next time you call F, you can put some more stuff in BLK (read another MP3). If you want to be able to completely remove BLK, I would do that using an object. Build the MP3 player as an object, instead of just a function. Makes sense?
Geomol: 31-Mar-2009 | You still have to set the MP3 data returned from your function to none to release the memory (making the garbage collector to work). I would handle this situation either by making a refinement to my function or (probably better) creating the whole thing as an object.
Geomol: 31-Mar-2009 | Using ALSO returns some data. If your code look like this: mp3-data: load-mp3-function and that load-mp3-function ends with an ALSO, setting the local var to none, you still have a full copy in mp3-data. Actually you end up having 2 copies for some time, until the garbage collector frees the local version. Later in your code, you need to set mp3-data to none to free to memory (which the garbage collector does). Now, is this how you use ALSO and why you need it?
Anton: 31-Mar-2009 | load-mp3-data: func [file /local contents][ contents: read/binary file ; <- modify contents here also contents contents: none ] data: load-mp3-data %song.mp3
Anton: 31-Mar-2009 | In the load-mp3-data function above, a large binary series is loaded and contents set to refer to it. The ALSO line returns the binary series and unsets CONTENTS so that it no longer refers to the binary series. The usage code below the function definition takes the return value (the binary series) and sets DATA to it. So effectively the variable referencing the binary series has been switched with another one.
Steeve: 31-Mar-2009 | If the contents var is not unset and then the load-mp3 function is not anymre called. Then, the garbage collector can't free the serie because it stays handled by the local var contents.

Oldes: 19-Jan-2009 | Will... I want to make a private mp3 stream server to play music on a local network. So it must be solved on the server side... read only enough sound data from disk to play and distribute it to listeners. I have already the mp3 parser to get for example enough data to play during specified interval of time. Now it's just how to distribute it and don't send more data than is necessary for the listeners.

shadwolf: 8-Jun-2005 | to share audio and video we need 3 things 1) the shoutcast server (configured properly but this not the most enoyant part) www.shoutcast.com/ 2) the NSV Tools that is used to share video stream from the webcam (use the VP3 encoder for video) and from the microphone (MP3 Lame encoder) 3) client use winamp software to see and listen the intervention in the conference ;)
shadwolf: 7-Jul-2005 | for a windows based OS you can use Shoutcast to broadcast audio/video streaming and the NSV TOOLS doftware to set up the audiovideo formats for the acquisition from you webcam and audio consol. The point is that shoutcast audio / video quality is far better than Quicktime ... higher resolution higher depth lesser bandwidth used (audio = mp3 video = null software video format)
