Oldes: 14-Mar-2006 | i hope so, anyway, it's not such a big problem as it's still very rare bug. Altme is great. I'm sometimes using other web forums and can compare it with Altme - which has much more better approach (as I don't need to load huge HTML all the time to just check if someone answered my question:)

Sunanda: 22-Jul-2010 | Nice idea, Graham..... But the REBOL script might be a spider/inder like RIX; and so expects a HTML page. We can't second guess cases like that.
Sunanda: 22-Jul-2010 | If any agent uses the HTML link, we send them the HTML page. If any agent uses the plain-text link, we send them the plain text. Anything else is likely to lead to complications for some users whose expectations we'd be disregarding.

MikeL: 17-May-2005 | Thanks Graham. Your response came in while I was composing this.... OK I have a simple View interface displaying a uniserve response so I follow that. With a view user interface I can see you could get the data needed for multiple tab pages asynchronously and have some saving there. For a script serving out html pages, it could be broken up so that asynch go after independent parts but they would have to be all emitted to the browser at once. Is anyone doing that with Uniserv or other?
MikeL: 17-May-2005 | In that ramble, I had both - I have a View client app that I want to know how to access Uniservices to make the programming easy and I also want to know how to Uniserve if I want to run a CGI that connects to a database, does some credit application calculations, and emits html to the client. For this CGI script, I would get both performance improvements and an easier programming model ... if I am reading the doc correctly.

Brock: 17-May-2006 | I suppose I could use Javascript in my HTML file to check for the webserver and if not there try to launch the local copy from the sandbox. Any thoughts?
Volker: 17-May-2006 | Or you could download an html-file into the sandbox and the user opens it locally by explorer. I guess the plugin would then load from the filesystem too. But not sure.
Brock: 17-May-2006 | Volker, that may do it, I guess I will need a way to get that local html fine into the sandbox, though. I don't want to install anything, but might be able to have the app automatically write that file to the local sandbox, hmmm, will try it out.
Volker: 17-May-2006 | Its just like the dekstop-sandbox, only on another place. You should find that dir by showing 'what-dir. And then just write the html-file there, load-thru may do the trick.
Brock: 18-May-2006 | Okay, writing the html file in the sandbox folder worked. In my case, the path to the .r file was C:\Documents and Settings\Brock\Local Settings\Temp\REBOL\Plugin\Mozilla\0\public\localhost. When I placed the .html file in the \localhost folder, the html file errored saying "Cannot open /C/Documents and Settings/Brock/Local Settings/Temp/REBOL/Plugin/Mozilla/0/wt-selector-2.r", so I added the missing part of the physical URL "\public\localhost" to the .html file and it works just fine
Volker: 18-May-2006 | would save code, if you did not need to change the file. Then load-thru url-of-online-html would do the trick.
Brock: 18-May-2006 | I was kind of hoping something like that. Even better would be that if you tried accessing the html file and there wasn't any network connectivity that it would by default check to see if the files were in the sandbox and you would avoid this all together :-)
Anton: 18-May-2006 | Just jump to console and type: path-thru http://some-url.com/blah.html
Volker: 20-May-2006 | How about a html-mode in rebol? Where script can be supplied html-encoded? Could be nice to show source of reblet. MAybe even could run colored scripts.
Volker: 20-May-2006 | And one could use html-editors to write. They can handle unicode. With some care in parsing rebol could use the &*; as is.
Volker: 20-May-2006 | Add a html-field which knows about this, unicode and good integration with formatted text.
Anton: 20-May-2006 | Don't forget that rich text is coming to rebol at some stage. Then we won't need HTML so much.
Volker: 20-May-2006 | I mean for im/export. If we can shopw pretty documents, we need something to write it. About html for plugins, that would be a little demo-feature to show code.
Volker: 26-May-2006 | That works too if the mime for *.r is application/x-rebol . But then it is complicated to view source. And it could be nice if *.r would run automatically as plugin, without generating an html-wrapper.
JoshM: 5-Jun-2006 | Tell me where I'm missing it. The goal of the plugin is to provide an environment for REBOL apps to run within an HTML page. It has nothing to do with download.
[unknown: 9]: 6-Jun-2006 | Tell me where I'm missing it. The goal of the plugin is to provide an environment for REBOL apps to run within an HTML page. It has nothing to do with download. This is the second time you have paraphrased what I wrote in a way I can't tract. R: I can't wait to be able to click on a ".r" file and have it just pop up and go. J: How does double-clicking on a r file relate to the plugin? J: It has nothing to do with download. I don't know why you mention double click, nor do I know what downloading has to do with this. Perhaps we can get on the same page by simply answering my question… when someone comes across a .r file, what happens now?
JoshM: 6-Jun-2006 | You can download IE 1.3.2 from http://www.rebol.com/web-plugin.html.
Volker: 6-Jun-2006 | launches View but doesn't open the file here it launches, IIRc it did that immediate without me setting something (now i prefer editor by default, so cant check). and by .r I mean a link that is actually a wrapper with all the crap needed to know what to do AFAK that is some html-markup, not *.r-created. On IE the plugin installs automatically, on firefox that will come. And plugins and mime are two things, plugins run inside the browser and need some marku (AFAIK), mime-types are launched by external apps (rebol if the server says its application/x-rebol)
JoshM: 6-Jun-2006 | There are two distinct issues that we need to seperate: 1. "Automatic" installation of the plugin. 2. Detecting and running a .r file. And by ".r" file, I mean a link to a REBOL source file -- NOT a wrapper page or anything else (that is really HTML and not a .r file).
JoshM: 6-Jun-2006 | However, I don't understand why the current approach doesn't work for you. Why not just make a HTML page that has the plugin OBJECT tag, it will download, install automatically, and then run the .r script.
Davide: 6-Jun-2006 | Josh is it possible to call rebol function from javascript ? i.e. expose a function "eval" so when I click an html button I can call a rebol function.
Davide: 6-Jun-2006 | If this is possible, I could build html interface and use rebol instead of javascript and ajax.
Davide: 6-Jun-2006 | Using Internet Explorer Init with: var rebPlug = new ActiveXObject("Rebol.Application"); rebPlug.LaunchURL="http://site/script.r"; After use it in html something like: <input type="button" value ="Execute" onliclick="rebPlug.eval('myrebcode [a b c]') />
Davide: 6-Jun-2006 | .. actually I didn't tried, I used object tag and polling from rebol to detect keypress in html :-)
JoshM: 15-Jun-2006 | Hi all....here's an update on what we're working on for the next plugin release: * Multiple instances -- this feature will allow you to run multiple plugins side-by-side within the same IE or Mozilla process. * Automatic updating -- no more uninstall! (aren't we all thrilled? :)). This will be the last update you will have to install manually via uninstall/reinstall; future backwards-compatible updates will come automatically (with user consent). * Smooth install on Mozilla -- FF and other Mozilla.org-based browsers will have a smooth install experience similar to IE. * do-browser in Mozilla -- you will be able to interact with the HTML page from your REBOL scripts in Mozilla browsers. * Last, but not least: Opera 9 support -- the plugin will be compatible with Opera 9, although the install process will not be as smooth as Mozilla & FF.
JoshM: 15-Jun-2006 | Pekr: Backwards-compatibility w/REBOL, AFAIK, is only broken with the first digit changing (i.e. 1.x to 3.x). We'll follow that process with the plugin -- automatic updates from 1.2 to 1.3, 1.3 to 1.4, etc., but a new manual download for 3.0 (including new HTML, side-by-side listing in "Downloaded Program Files", etc.)
james_nak: 16-Jun-2006 | http://www.rebol.com/plugin/web-plugin-install.htmlJosh, it that URL really supposed to auto load the plug-in? I'm getting an error when it actually tries to install it.
BrianH: 16-Jun-2006 | Is the plugin served from an HTTPS site? It would be nice to avoid man-in-the-middle attacks. I'm always a little wary of putting non-SSL sites on the trusted sites list. For that matter, when you have one site serving the html and script, and another serving the plugin, which site needs to be trusted, as far as the major browsers are concerned? I would think just the plugin serving site, but I don't quite remember right now...
Brock: 16-Jun-2006 | Hmm, WinXP Pro, install for IE worked fine, install for FF seemed to work fine as the Red/Blue box was displayed, but clicking on the test.html link in the developer guide brings up the HTML without the TestPanel application.
Volker: 17-Jun-2006 | Maybe the object-id has changed, and html needs to change? the old plugin is removed, so..
Volker: 17-Jun-2006 | (and he does the artwork, based on stuff found here: http://reinerstileset.4players.de/index.html )
JoshM: 19-Jun-2006 | Volker: do-browser simply executes a line of javascript within the context of the HTML page. Whatever security settings apply to javascript running within <script> tags in the page apply to do-browser code.
Volker: 19-Jun-2006 | Good. Was not sure about that context, wanted to be sure its the one of the html, not something with plugin-rights.
JoshM: 19-Jun-2006 | Brock: I'm not sure that test.html has been updated yet....need to check on that....
Brock: 19-Jun-2006 | Josh M: my problems may be with the interface between the chair and the keyboard... I tried using the existing demo pages not even considering the new tags required for the html pages. I will double check everything when I get a chance. Sorry for possibly causing extra work on your part to trouble shoot.
Ingo: 26-Jun-2006 | Hi James, Pekr, the html code is different for IE vs Mozilla plugins. I'm not sure wether the web-pages have already been updated accordingly. (Well, actually I'm rather sure they haven't ;-)

Reichart: 17-Dec-2008 | Qtask (for exmaple) supports ALL browser, since www.iQtask.com is simplly HTML. Qtask did some tricky things with JavaScript to control tables, which is why Safari and Chrome fail. We should have this fixed by the end of this month. It is a small set of fixes. So we then will support all browsers. But still I woudl build a custom version of Chrome to do some "extra" tricks. We also plan to support Flash plug ins, for audio support, etc. These are all extras. I love your "killing REBOL schtick" . REBOL is a language, the x-internet concept is one of the many cool things about it. BUT, for now, I'm going to keep my marraige in place between REBOL + HTML + JAVASCRIPT.
