Hey, I found a really neat GUI interface in the Picasa photo organizer
program from Google. (http://www.google.com/downloads/) If you download
it or already have it, just click the "Timeline" button near the
top of the screen. I think it would be really neat if someone could
make a REBOL clone of that screen.

Robert - my experience is only that e.g. for Nokia, you need their
Suite. Symbian communicates via mrouter.exe, which you can download
separately. Have you ever tried to get various phones connected via
bluetooth? A nightmare. Bluetooth "simulates" serial connection.
Symbians are used to initiate connection themselves. So they will
disconnect PC and try to connect back. But they communicate with
mroute.exe, which serves as gateway or so ...

read-thru/check with binary checksums. Each version in own folder.
Updater points to the next folder. which usually is empty. once
a version is there, download everything, run a update-data.r. then
run this versions look-for-update. Continues until no never version
there. Look for detective/ask Gabriele how to check that its really
all your code.

What I did was embed a version number .. a tuple in the exe. Each
time it first accesses the internet, it checks to see if there is
an upgrade by querying a cgi script which returns the current version
number. If there is a higher version, it just offers to download
it .. download location is always the same.

Off the top of my head a script needs:

One sentence description.
500 word description.
filesize
Date of last update
Version

History (when it was updated, lines of code, version numbers, etc).

Yeksoon, I don't think IOS is where topics should be had, but offering
a public IOS system that does "something" could be cool to show off.
Sort of like a model house. No?

Peter, I actually did not know who ran Rebol.org (see! My point
exactly about -centralizing information, :-) )

I think we could work together though. As far as I'm concerned,
anything built for RebolCentral.org will be open and free for trade.
Perhaps we can build and lock down templates that get carried to
the other sites to create unity.

I see no reason to replicate anything as well. In other words, if
possible, we build one database of all content (perhaps what is already
on Rebol.org) and leave it there, simply build a review system that
points to it. Most download sites work this way. They are just
a clearing house to other sites.

I am not sure - even with rebol (core), if you want gui, you have

I have also suspicion, that some of you guys, e.g. Gabriele (I mean
it in a friendly non complaining mode :-), don't mind having everything
in one .exe. Neither do I in fact, View is still small in today's
terms - but - if we talk small devices - it is not. Go and try to
download it via GPRS I use with my cell phone - it does not look
like a small app to upgrade in any way :-)

I think it has to do with the fact that many service providers will
timeout an http port xfer even if its still working. and that amounts
to about 6MB . I have that kind of effect with gmail. if I try
to download something larger than 3MB it fails... because of the

How does Altme! keep track of a client's cach of messages? Does
it update based on differences from the messages on hte client machine
or from the server? What I want to know is: if I use altme from two
differnet computers will I always get a full update when I log on
or will I lose messages if I loged on a different computer before.

[unknown: 5]:

Some observations for Reichart on making ALTME more viral.

1. Host all worlds for free but unsecured.
2. Tier packages
3. Enable one click access from external sites to ALTME worlds
4. Ads Tier

1) Regarding #1 - I think if you host all ALTME worlds for free
that people will sign up quickly. What would drive someone to fork
over the cash is going to be traffic. I can bet that once someone
starts getting traffic to their world and generating content they
are going to want to keep it. ALTME owns the content of the worlds
until someone secures it with payment for the hosting account. (Major
incentive that rewards growth).

2) Make product tiers that target hosting accounts towards gaining
income and visibility for their hosted safeworlds.

3) Think of going to a website and it says something like JOIN the
DISCUSSION and then says click here and has a small ALTME logo that
launches you into ALTME and then takes you directly to the particular
safeworld. and if someone doesn't it have it - it takes you to ALTME
download link. Almost all other messaging mediums have this capability.

4) This is an excellent idea to compliment number 2. One tier that
can be offers for additional costs would allow ADVERTISEMENTS within
the safeworld framework. For example, consider many online forums
generate revunue from Google Adsense by placement of ads in their
content. ALTME could offer this type of capability as well. This
is really an area where I think that REBOL can get great exposure.
If advertisements are required to be put forward in REBOL code this
means that Google would have to have REBOL programmers develop delivery
content to interface with ALTME. I have no doubt in my mind that
they would do it. ALTME can boast that it has www.rebol.com as a
marketing partner and REBOL.com according to marketleap.com is a
"contender" class website showing that ALTME can get the word out
if it really wants to.
Sunanda:
14-Nov-2008
One other possibility......We could have a "request membership" form
on REBOL.org.
That'd explain the need to download the client from Altme.com.

And it'd send an email to an Admin requesting the person be let in.

So all we need is an Admin who is willing to be the recipient of
that email.
Any takers?

The nice thing is AltME asks you if you want to download large files

Rebolek:
12-Dec-2005
Because I'm writing scripts on more than one computer I need to sync
files somehow. I can use flashdisk for synchronization, but USB is
not always available or I forget my flashdisk at home, so it's not
always the right option.

Or I can use ftp to upload and download files. But at the end I've
got lots of different directories with different versions, because
I have no intelligent file structure.

I was inspired by Google filesystems for win and lin so I decided
to use some freemail (gmail preferably) for my scripts maintaing.
Unfortunatly, Gmail needs some authentication, SSL or what and SSL
under Rebol needs Command and Command needs 350$ to buy.

So I found another freemail provider that offers both non-authenticated
SMPT and POP and therefore is OK for REBOL (btw. remeber the old
REBOL example? send [luke-:-rebol-:-com] read http://www.rebol.com? Hard
to do with all the authetications required today.) and I started
coding.

The result is a small application called %rspace.r that can upload
file to repository, download newest version from repository, or you
can get list of all files in repository and finally, if you're happy
with your script, you can publish it on www/ftp. All this with documentation
in less than 6kB.

All you need is REBOL and mail account cappable of SMTP/POP without
authentication. It's good to have an FTP account for publishing files
but that's not required. If you do not have an mail account, I've
set up one on seznam.cz, user 'rebolspace' and pass 'spacerebol'
for testing this application (it's built in, so you can start testing
right after download).

Remember, it's just alpha, does not have many features, but it works,
I can write something here, update it there and have all the versions
accesible from everywhere. It's written for REBOL scripts so with
big projects it's going to be very slow and unusable, but for small
project (and most REBOL scripts are really small) it's probably good.

So download it form http://krutek.info/rebol/rspace.r(stable) or
http://rebolspace.sweb.cz/rspace.r(latest published version).

WARNING: because [rebolspace-:-seznam-:-cz] is open account it won't be
wise to use it ordinarily. Please, if you like it, set up your own
account and use it instead of built-in one.
And remember: all suggestions and fixes are welcome.

The installation procedure is greatly enhanced with options to fix
hardware support problems. The native web browser is replaced with

Licencing / Development

RebGUI is a community project that is free for both commercial and
non-commercial use. Submissions, in particular widgets, will be accepted
and credited to the author under the condition that they carry these
same licence conditions.

Download

Enter the following command from the REBOL console:

	do http://www.dobeash.com/files/rebgui/get-rebgui.r

To see all the widgets in action type the following from a REBOL/View
1.3.1 (or later) console:

Ashley:

0.3.9 is out and it has a lot of fixes / enhancements. From a REBOL/View
console:

	do http://www.dobeash.com/get-rebgui.r
	do view-root/public/www.dobeash.com/RebGUI/tour.r

The dictionary file has been removed from the distribution and the
download path has been changed from:

	www.dobeash.com/files/rebgui -> www.dobeash.com/RebGUI

so you may want to delete view-root/public/www.dobeash.com in its
entirety first to clean things up.

In addition to the large number of fixes ( http://www.dobeash.com/it/rebgui/issues.html#section-2.2
), a number of enhancements are documented here:

	http://www.dobeash.com/it/rebgui/display.html#section-2.1.7
	http://www.dobeash.com/it/rebgui/display.html#section-3.2.4
	http://www.dobeash.com/it/rebgui/display.html#section-3.2.5
	http://www.dobeash.com/it/rebgui/display.html#section-5.20

Also note the following:

view-face is now activate-on-show by default

Added a request-password requestor (its password widget problems
 are known issues)
	group-box and tab-panel now auto-size

Table column headings are now always left aligned and clicking the
 arrow works

Added an 'effects context (only window is present, but others like
'button, 'check, etc may be added in future)

And lastly, you will notice that %tour.r has a new "Appearance" tab
where you can dynamically alter RebGUI's metrics, colors and effects.
Note that some colors are still "hard-bound" at context creation
and won't change - these will be made dynamic (via a set-colors func?)
in the future. Apart from showing off RebGUI's dynamic scaling and
display abilities, this lets you more easily prototype a unique look
for your own apps if you want, and if you come up with a set of options
that is truly fantastic then share it here and it may just become
the new RebGUI default.

Enjoy!

it fails with other things. (obviously needs a check for presence

Petr, I agree, that get-rebgui.r should download the current directory.

maybe I will even download it as-is now, and change also target location

SVN = SubVersion, the concurrent versioning system used by TortoiseSVN.
We have started using it to keep files synchronized. You would need
to download and install Tortoise.

I've tried to download RebGUI from REBOL Desktop (as suggested on
http://www.dobeash.com/rebgui.html) but it crashes with:
** Script Error: Cannot use path on none! value
** Where: context
** Near: header/version

#include %ctx-rebgui.r

or run create-distribution.r to produce rebgui.r and then

#include %rebgui.r

Note that %rebgui.r is also available at http://www.dobeash.com/download.html
, but may not be the latest build.

Spell-check requires a locale.dat file (which you can copy and rename
from those under the language directory) and a matching dictionary
file in the dictionary directory. Example:

	1) Copy %language/British.dat %locale.dat
	2) Download and unzip %British.dat into %dictionary/British.dat
	3) Run %tour.r
	4) Click "Field" then "Area" tabs
	5) Click in the area and press Ctrl+S

This should bring up a spell-check dialog with suggested word replacements.

Louis: The up/download is easy in rebservices. Some things need be
to figured out, (user-management, no http-proy, allows upload of
functions, filter them out!). But Gabriele is here.
