Where one can download the OpenGL binding? Don't you want to put
the bindings into the Red's github?
Gerard:

@Doc: Seem there is a new update for my system. I will first download
and install it and I'll retry later the Red/system app in Native
mode.

@Doc : Thanks for the try of the emulator - Now installing the Android

Pekr and Rebolek: could you try to use ProcessMonitor (PM) to see
if we can get a clue about what is blocking the DLL loading from
R2?

1) Download it from: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
2) Run it

3) Open a REBOL console and CD to the folder where the DLL is located

4) In PM, drag'n drop the "target" icon to the REBOL console window
5) Type in console: lib: load/library %temp.dll

6) Scroll down in the PM window to look for rebol.exe process entries,
look for failure reports in Result and Detail columns...

+1 Arnold, although Github does provide a zip download link.
Arnold:
17-Sep-2012
Right, that's new I guess. How many K's is this source now? Ah only
289 KB couldn't even blink my eyes while downloading it, so there
will be no real bandwidth issue, I can host one download link on
my site as well :-)
Pekr:
17-Sep-2012
Hmm, now I might see, what others mean - the Github link is not apparent
anywhere on the site. Maybe once you find some free time (hardly
nowadays), here's what I suggest:

- add Downloads link to the top menu

- add just one sentence - you can download .zip archives of particular
branches from link-to-github ...

That's might help some users ....

It's much easier to download a repository as a Zip package or tarball.
Go to a particular version or check-in and use the download links
there

But in the c-libraray.reds file that is in the zip file with the
examples I downloaded from Fosil there is this: #include %../common/common.reds
- but there is no common folder or common.reds folder in that download
from Fosil - so where does it find this common.reds file that it
is trying to access if it is not the one that is part of Red/System?
Pekr:

as I think about it, it would be best to have some kind of interpreter/library,
which would download just once, and then only the app package would
be downloaded. But that's just most probably prohibited by mobile
platforms. Having just each "hello world" app to take 60KB etc. is
a bit too much ....
Pekr:
23-Oct-2012
But thinking about it, those mobile platform policies make it really
innefficient. I know that most app you download, are just megabytes,
but still - why not to allow a runtimes to find their shared place
on the device? Then, all your apps would need just kilobytes of the
traffic, and mobile operators would be happier. But maybe it is not
easily technically solvable on such OSes, who knows ....

Click click click click, nonsense timeline, nonsense hashes, then
you finally get to the point, where you can download a ZIP file,
and it is named like a crap, subdir's name is weird too. I am really
upset anytime I have to go to such an interface. It is not imo normal,
in order to get a clue how to get a file, to twiddle around for a
minute!
Pekr:
1-Nov-2012
Kaj - I meant the Github. You see? I even don't know how the system
works underneath, it just gives me the link to download stuff on
the first page :-)
DocKimbel:

Pekr: maybe you would like to write a handy REBOL script that would
download all the latest bindings from Fossil repos? That would be
a useful tool.
Kaj:
1-Nov-2012
You do seem to have downloaded an old version. Go to the latest checkin
and download the package there. Or better, update with Fossil
Kaj:
7-Nov-2012
I've removed the / from the repository name for the test binaries.
Fossil was using the title in the download file names, so the slash
was creating odd results

As far as the wish for a View/VID native solution goes, I wish that
as well. Maybe it will be possible when the JIT compiler becomes
reality to easily adapt Rebol's VID.

It does not have to be complete like VID, a basic set of widgets
will get you a long way.

Other solutions are a really good thing too, but looking at GTK and
myself I find it hard to find out how to get GTK on my mac. It is
not a standard dmg file I can download and install and it works.
Other GUI solutions require integration of their package or having
the end user of your programs to find out how to get it running on
their machine. That kind of thing can be a real showstopper to global
acceptance.

I know Doc is working hard and has already stated he intends to come
up with a VID like native solution. So we can let him focus and be
silent ,or we can comment and discuss letting him know we do care.
Arnold:
6-Dec-2012
I freed up some space on my mac I'll download latest version from
github and have a little go. Anything specific to look for/try? Imho
you are allowed to patch as much as you want, release or not. We
will follow anyhow.
Great reply! Thanks.
Arnold:

Very good vid even without a fitting musical distraction!

Today I watched a tutorial for the AVR Dragon, a kind of arduino
thing, when I heard in that video the programming environment was
a download of about 500MB and needed the .NET framework I stopped
it and realised that would be about 5000 times bigger than the programmable
memory of that board. That is why the world needs Red :)
Bo:

Sorry to change topic from the current issues (pun intended), but
I wanted to say thanks to Doc and Kaj for the information about graphics
on Red/System on Linux running on ARM! Where could I download the
GTK.reds file?
Bo:
4-Feb-2013
OK. Say I have a fresh Windows PC and I want to start coding in
Red/System for the target of Raspberry Pi. Help me understand what
I need to do. Here is what I assume needs to be done, but I may
be wrong.

1. Download R2, I assume. Any particular version?
2. Download Red/System compiler. From where?
3. Write the program on the PC.

4. Compile it with Red/System on the PC, but for the Raspberry Pi
target. Is that just a setting somewhere?
5. Move the compiled file to the Raspberry Pi and execute it.
Bo:
8-Feb-2013
Kaj, now that I've had a chance to do some work with Red/System,
it's amazing to me how much work you've already done on adding features!

Here's something that I think would really help out a lot of us who
want to make use of all your hard work. Would it be hard to create
http://red.esperconsultancy.nl/index.htmlwith a link to all the
Red stuff you've done? The only way I found what I needed to download
was by searching through AltME for links, and had to manually enter
in things like Red-common, Red-C-library, Red-cURL, Red-GTK, etc.
Bo:
4-Mar-2013
@DocKimbel, I keep going to red-lang.org to download Red and Red/System,
but then I remember it isn't there. Is there any way you could put
a link on red-lang.org to the binaries?
Bo:
4-Mar-2013
Maybe along the top, have a "Download" tab where the other tabs are,
and everything needed to know about downloading it could be there.
DocKimbel:
4-Mar-2013
Bo: there's no "binaries" (yet) for Red and Red/System, you need
to go on github and download the sources (using the method that suits
you the most).
Pekr:
5-Mar-2013
Yes, Github is a bit of a problem - it gets some time to orientiate
oneself ... But otoh, on the main screen of Git, you can download
latest archive, just see ZIP button - the link is - https://github.com/dockimbel/Red/archive/master.zip
Pekr:
5-Mar-2013
There's not so many buttons on Github page ;-) But maybe Doc could
add above link pointing to latest archive directly to his site, would
make things for beginners easier. Well, looking at red website I
now find it also a mistake not having download section ...
DocKimbel:
5-Mar-2013
Red is certainly not ready for prime time now. What we need now is
testers and contributors. So just putting a link to source archive
in a Download section wouldn't help much, as users would have no
clue what to do with it. Again, there's a "Fork me on Github" button
on top of all pages on red-lang.org. If users have no clue what Github
is, then they are probably not ready for contributing. I will add
a Download section once we have binaries for Red compiler (encapped
versions of R2 compiler for now).

Once Red gets ready (documented and in beta state), I will open a
new site that will be fully user-oriented (in contrary to the current
one which is followers/contributors oriented).

About Red/System: it is meant to be a dialect embedded in Red, however,
its intrinsic value seems to be high and will be higher as we add
more feature and optimize it. Maybe it could be a good selling point
for making some low-level programmers come to Red. As Red/System
is much more mature than Red, maybe I should think about opening
soon a dedicated web site for it (would still need a binary version
of the compiler)... What do you think?
Pekr:
5-Mar-2013
Gregg - the ONLY thing which is really needed, is to add Download
section to the Red website, pointing to the ZIP button of the Github
website. That's for those who are not familiar with Git, or to whom
the Git creates a headache to use. So - is adding one URL to a website
so much of a challenge?
Bo:
5-Mar-2013
True, but it takes too much searching to find. red-lang.org is the
place I would expect to go to download the language, and it would
be super nice if the instructions were right there as well. If that
doesn't work, the second best would be a link to the instructions.
Pekr:
5-Mar-2013
I think, that there is many potential supporters out there, who would
welcome - You can download very experimental version of Red and Red/System
to test here ....
DocKimbel:
5-Mar-2013
Pekr: trust me I know what I'm doing. But as it will take me less
time to add that Download button than keeping arguing with you about
that, I will add it. :-)

A first pass at accessing the Etsy API: http://reb4.me/r/etsy

Works similarly to my Twitter API script (a few OAuth differences
here and there). You can download it, or run it in place (do/args
... [...Settings...]). As with Twitter, you start with etsy/as and
go through the authorization process. It has a few example methods,
and an open method - etsy/api-call - that can call (as far as I can
tell) every api function. Will try to document at some point.

After the mirror game and the chessboard interface, the Red compiler
script and various cgi scripts and showing all how radio buttons
work in VID, I can now introduce to you the application to play checkers
(10x10 international, in dutch dammen). Not bad for a REBOL newbie
right? Wait a moment with all of your nominations please, because:

There is a tiny issue left with the moving of the pieces when playing
against the computer but it is minor compared to all other issues
I have already fixed ;-)

You can download the zip file with the program here http://arnoldvanhofwegen.com/stuff/damscripts.zip

Program is started with do %damb.r and you can play after setting
the color the computer has to play with on the panel you get when
you click the top-left button. You can look under the hood and see
the values the program gives the legal moves. You can put your own
positions on the board and continue from that point.
Enjoy!

Let me announce first achievement of bringing R3 to Android OS based
devices. I know many of you were waiting for this so long so here
is the first test version to download:

http://development.saphirion.com/experimental/R3droid.apk

Note this is just first raw port showing the interpreter is working.
The console input is missing at the moment, but will be probably
among first things to add so you can have your beloved /Core on your
mobile/tablet.

If you would like to speed up this developement, donate, sponsor
or make a bounty for features please crosscheck with Robert/Saphition(he'll
write more info here as well)

with graphics engine for windows for now. Further our latest R3-GUI
release is available too.

The site contains a bounty shop as well, if you want to support /
donate to some of our efforts. All things we will work on are listed.

Stay tuned, more to come over the next weeks.

It is common to use this FAQ entry as a way to make GPL extensions
that wrap proprietary components: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WindowsRuntimeAndGPL

Developers commonly put links on their web site to the vendor's web
site to download the DLL. However, it's iffy with GPL2 because the
actual exception is worded like this:

However, as a special exception, the source code distributed need
not include anything that is normally distributed (in either source
or binary form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and
so on) of the operating system on which the executable runs, unless
that component itself accompanies the executable.

Read literally, it would exclude runtime libraries that aren't bundled
with the OS. It's more unambiguously OK with GPL3.
AdrianS:

Kaj, the fossil source browser that you linked to has a download
option for the current version as an archive - for those who don't
want to bother installing fossil - i.e. they don't need to install
file by file
Kaj:
19-Oct-2012
Yes, there are always download links in Fossil. But it's really not
much harder to install it - easier if you need to update or keep
the files in order
Kaj:
19-Oct-2012
In most cases, the name of the binding tells you which library you
need. Then find the official site, the official download for your
system and see if you need any dependencies
Robert:
5-Jan-2013
Bo, you have to download the script and than run it. Network support
is not yet running. That's next.
Cyphre:
5-Jan-2013
yes, networking is not done yet.

You just download a *.r script (or copy on your sdcard in the phone).
Then you can just clik on the script file and file association requester
should popup so you can run *.r scripts just by clicking on them
instead of execution from console.
Maxim:
11-Jan-2013
Andreas, good idea.

I'd only add that you should append the rebol version to the executables/archives
(if ever), so that when we download them, they don't overwrite each
other. adding the version will also classify each version based
on its platform.
Andreas:

Graham: Thanks. That makes sense out of something someone else told
me. I thought the information was contradicting what you guys said
earlier, it just means I misunderstood the order of things. The modiffer
after the slash is closer to making a new command than it is an agrument
than I had envisioned. The fact that random is part of both made
me think they could be done together. Thank you for catching that
I did not know that detail.

Next part of myscrip enters something into a database. The server
will have an mySQL database installed. It is possible that alternative
could be used, but knowing for sure I have at no extra charge this
options means I am starting with this option.

So I found a MySQL Driver for REBOL from here: http://softinnov.org/rebol/mysql.shtml

I am following the instructions that came with the download. Is there
anything I should know. Maybe it is not the driver people use because
there are better ones. Maybe the author kills kittens on the weekend
and it is consider bad form to use it. Maybe it is harder than it
looks. Basically, please just tell me if there is general info about
it I should know that is not obvious. Thanks.
