as community we failled we failled to convince others to join us 
we even failled to convince the main God Guru to stay and keep doing 
things and why he don't do things nothing advance ... you can chit 
chat all you want about the bugs you find the way you want things 
to be done in the end since carl don't do them noone do them and 
that's just endless talk that even the first concerned stopped watching 
a long time ago guys think of it Carl 5 years ago invented a new 
Chat system to not have r3 project  disrupted by altme blablering 
...

now you can hide from the truth and invent the perfect world you 
think you have created but  the truth still remain and more time 
pass worst gets the situation but ... Here  is my next prediction 
in some more month lets say january 2012 Carl will make  his triumphant 
comeback wich will mobelise you all and has the effect of killing 
the red community and action as none will contribute to red anymore 
it will be on stasis like all other intents to break free from RT

so better things to do save me alot of desilusion and time lost and 
not participating... This is my decision and it's based on facts 
(recurant facts to be precise...) and on a logical process.

Shadwolf - I will tell it  just shortly - save me from an idiotic 
replies like that  I am very responsible for REBOL failure in general, 
please :-) I can make many predictions too, and I did some predictions. 
Everybody here knows, that without Carl's come-back, R3 core development 
is stagnating. We are surely not here to make a world take-over, 
those of us here are here because we like REBOL anyway, and it helps 
our lives here or there. So please - if you just want to log-in here 
once in few months, and then just post "I told you so" crap, then 
you can as well save us from such a stupid blathering ...

in what way logging here every day to post tons of messages will 
change anything ? That will make me see more gentle ? sorry I'm not 
gentle and I don't care if I hurt your feelings. That's a lack of 
respect from me ? how clever you are :) So what .? Ban me bit me 
ignoreme ijuriate me like you did the sorry truth will remain RMA 
wasn't able to produce anything in a year and this Pekr isn't quite

I just wrote a REBOL application last week, in 6 hours, made 1500 
$. So, yes we like REBOL, and we like this community. if you don't 
like, shadwolf, you really don't need to be here, write here, share 
your thoughts etc.

Education. About quick read and dyslexia. Ofcourse I could write 
in any other language. But it would not be that fun, and easy and 
quick. It would definitely take much more time.

I was holding back for quite some time now. It was not the right 
approach, taking into account all the evidence available, so, here 
goes:

Knowing, that Shadwolf does not consider himself a member of this 
community according to his own messages:

* "My hate toward rebol community has been growing up alot"

* "I don't want to contribute to anything  handled the rebol community

, and knowing that he at least tried to insult all the members of 
this community, I have to ask:


* What exactly it is we are waiting for to stop him spread his hatred 
to this community?
* Why do we want to make his hatred to the community web-public?

* Why do we want him to misuse the community communication channels 
to spread his hatred?

Lad, you're just wasting your time analyzing a troll. I think that 
a troll is necesarry for any community as it helps strengthen the 
binds there. Individual opposition is understood, but bannning does 
imply opression and therefore troll's (in our case shadwolfs) win. 
So I think it's much better to leave these people ranting here than 
banning them. Also, sometimes it's fun to read them. Just for lolz, 
you know.

Well, I tend to be negative too. But I at least don't spit on ppl, 
calling them names, while discouraging them from REBOL usage. IIRC, 
Terry was banned too. And from my pov, he was less harmful than  
Shadwolf is. When Shadwolf connects here, he floods various channels 
by very negative attitue. He even attacks guys as Doc, who is doing 
open-sourced work, which Shadwolf called for for so long. As for 
me, I am for ban. I like democracy, but otoh, Shadwolf is missusing 
our good will imo. OTOH we can always just let it be, he joins once 
per month or so, so let's welcome another few weeks without his attacking 
comments :-)

I am for freedom of speech so, I am for tolerating trolls as long 
as they are, at least formally, respectful and not doing ad hominem 
attacks. But Alphe has gone outrageous since a while, and insulted 
people here (and from french forums too) and their work, beyond any 
logic and without any provocation. He seems motivated only by his 
own personal frustrations. I am for a formal banning (even if in 
practice, it probably won't be efficient).

The problem with voting systems is that they only work on large group 
sizes. And every separate discussion usually has a small group size. 
It also makes for discussions with holes in them

He made a lot of cool scripts... I feel bad about banning him, just 
because he has derailed in the past few years. I feel similarly sad 
about the situation and I can imagine how much desperation is trying 
to fuck him mind apart. I can imagine him coming back as a Red coder 
2-3yrs from now actually...

My grandfather was an alcoholic, btw. For ~20years or so. He has 
been cured after several attempts and lives with us for 15+yrs already. 
He was actually pissing on the floor and saying ugly things sooo 
many times. We didn't like it of course, but we treated it as a challange 
and we succeed at the end. The root cause was my grandmother, btw... 
her attitude...

A college class mate of mine had some nerv system issues. He was 
under medication. He already had a university diploma in physics 
but he wanted to get more practical programming experience so he 
attended to this college. Sometimes he forgot to take his pills. 
He was getting nervous at these times and he was insulting the teachers 
or other students, but in a very childish and mean way. I was around 
26yrs old that time and he was 36. I remember once he got jealous 
about a couple walking happily on the street on a nice and sunny 
sunday afternoon. He just went to them and started to complain how 
can they be so liberated when there are so many problems in the world, 
etc etc

At the end he got so nervous as john cleese in the Bicycle Repairman 
sketch and finally he bit the guy's wrist. They called the police 
and he had to go for a blood test to make sure he doesnt have rabies.


By now he is in a mental institution for ~4years. I don't think he 
can ever recover anymore...


I feel Shadwolf has a similar medical condition which he makes even 
worse by drinking. But it's curable... if someone can help and take 
it seriously.

I am sorry to hear that, but we are not in the position to do that 
for him. There are sadly also too many people in the world and on 
the Internet like that for anyone to handle

It's not for a lack of trying. I have met probably more than my share 
of such people. I have developed some ideas about possible causes 
and cures that I try to relate to them, but that's all I can do and 
one of the symptoms is invariably not wanting to listen

I not around here much but still enjoy and get paid well for playing 
with rebol2

Im also using Rebol2 for my paid job partly and I also agree life 
is too short. So Im not against a ban, it's just a hard. I hope he 
forgives us when he could get out of this constant grumpiness...

Past mid day for me in the New Year, and it's finally stopped raining!

Crappy weather here and it's just past midnight. Didn't get any good 
fireworks pictures.

I was in centrum Copenhagen with lots of fireworks. This year I noticed 
several larger BOOMs than normally. That's not very funny, and I 
don't know, what people are thinking. Small bangs are ok with me, 
even if they're not legal here, but these were like grenades.

Our wonderful municipality spent tons of money on fireworks (they 
have obsession with fireworks, the will cut 20% money for childern 
and seniors support  this year, but the huge budget for fireworks 
show will stay same) this year and then they shoot all the rockets 
into impenetrable fog and nobody was able to see anything but some 
blurry spots. I just love them.

In Maui everyone sets off their own pretty heavy grade fireworks. 
 Enough that I found about 20+ "shell casings (paper) around my property, 
and tey were all over the streetss.

Here, people do this as well, usually ends with 5-10 people a year 
in the hospital with a lost eye or hand. They also shoot fireworks 
up to a month before new year and a few days after to get rid of 
the left overs.

Sure he is free to publish anywhere he likes, but it is the first 
place to look at, for me and most of the people (beginners especially).

I have tons of dead links to REBOL pages & scripts moved somewhere 
else. And also it is more difficult to have new versions of those 
script not on rebol.org

For example BrianH's csv-tools.r is a great script, useful for most 
people. But I'm sure if it wasn't on the rebol.org many people would 
try to re-invent the wheel. Anyway, just an idea.

There are a ot of things that should be done but aren't.  All the 
librarians can do is track the various sites and attempt to mirror 
the scripts.  We have lost whole sites in the past ...

Please, be so kind and respect the group purposes. For example, I 
would welcome you not discussing general topics in the "Carl Only" 
group, "Saphirion" group, etc.

Still more curious which one of "Carl" and "only" is not understandable.

I think it is Ladislav, who understands the meaning of the group 
differently. I definitely translate is - post messages you want Carl 
to read. So - in recent situation, when Carl reappeared and is hopefully 
considering next steps, talk about the arguments for open-sourcing 
R3 is pretty much valid in mybook ...

4/Jan/2004, from Shadwolf. Then Anton, "none", Reviewer and me guessing, 
if it is "from" Carl, or "to" Carl, which in itself clearly shows,

- there is no etc. :-)

-  I am not accusing anyone from anything :-) I know it helps from 
time to time, to keep groups being on-topic, and I can understand 
that in the case of Saphirion, but as for me, recent  Carl only's 
post are far less off topic than some prior discussions in that group.


For god's or anyone sake, it will be best for me to create pekr-only 
group, giving anyone any persmission to post anything :-)

 want Carl to read" is just twisting the meaning. There is no excuse 
 for you doing so ("I can see no Carl's original posting") since you 
 cannot deny you read the original posting. That would be just another 
 twist of reality (a lie) and you should know it as well as I do. 
 As far as the rest of your twisting logic is presented, I react with 
 "no comment".

Interesting, that even 7 years ago, 5-Jan-2005, the purpose of the 
group was not clear enough to some other ppl. Two messages later 
Carl logged in, not commenting on the purpose of the group itself. 
And to be fair - back at that time I though it is actually from Carl, 
but I don't think so anymore. It's not about the pov change, even 
back then it was all speculation on my, and others side ... 


ReViewer: Just wondering, "Carl Only Messages" means this group is 
read only except for Carl?

Anton: Yes, it's a bit ambiguous, isn' t it ? I think the group creator 
should clarify in the group description whether these are messages 
TO or FROM Carl. (If TO, I think that's a bit hopeful... ;)

pekr: I think it is FROM Carl, as To Carl only you can contact him

The goal of having groups at all, and giving them a purpose and some 
loose guidelines for posting, is to make it easier to find the information 
you (we) want.

yes, the world password is created once, when you create the world. 
unfortunately I used a personal one, and didn't think anything about 
it.

well, it seems that worlds are not case sensitive in some cases and 
are in others.

I've tried it both under OSX and Windows, but both produce same behavior.

henrik - are you looking into the correct directory? There is directory 
called worlds, and the one called servers

ok, the world is not accessible, because I tried to start it from 
windows and my router is set to my macbook. moving it back again...

but going to purge all altme processes from the macbook and try again.

I'm guessing that it tries to get the "Rebol4" name somehow to read 
the user list, but does not get anything and then quietly ignores 
it.

you can try this:

move (and copy) your original alme folders, clear your servers dir, 
start a brand new instance of rebol4 (using the same master passwd, 
just for now).


Use something like winmerge on the two world folders to spot the 
differences in the old and new. you *may* be able to find and swap 
some parts of the files, or just a few files which are corrupted.

some data has changed, or is expecting a change from what he had 
to what its now looking up.  by generating a new world, with the 
same setup, he might figure out what's wrong and patch it.

and I'm not using any world password... this is an odd design.

so you specify it once, when creating a new world and there is no 
way to change it, which is a problem.

Yes, I know the form requests it ... do you think it is stored, and 
then used to register with altme.com?

Yes, though there are glitches on alt ports, so we will have to see. 
I have two worlds on the VM now (5400 and 5401), so we would know 
right away if it works on 5402.

it in a second.

It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Alt ports that is.

You should be able to just move and restart a server. 

I still can't connect at all, even on the server itself.

Maybe there is a step missing and it simply can't show that the server 
is not running.

I think you may have to start it once via the GUI and enter the password.

I can't start the world manually, because of the private pass issue, 
and the shortcut start doesn't seem to do it.

Give Henrik remote desktop access to the machine for a minute or 
two. Let him start the server once from the GUI, entering the password. 
WNS should refresh. Shutdown and start from CLI again.

I also plan to write a minimalistic mchd - Minimalistic Crossplatform 
Hacker's Desktop. Kinda dos-like and multiedit-like. Inspired by 
many of my own and anothers' ideas.

That should be OS-like experience for user's POV and from programming 
point of view.

I've started to program this and understood. That phial - is not 
what I need. "Phial" is science, research, chemistry, bad. I need 
simply INTERCOSMIC LIFE.

today there is new standard here - EDGE - it can be nearly 150kbit, 
should be enough even for SkyPe ..... it runs on top of GPRS modulation

Next year I suggest everyone prerecord their sessions as divx and

well...just hope everyone understand that there are no full time 
event organiser that helps see to the infrastructure needs of broadcasting 
etc.


so far, all the Rebol events are initiaited and organised by volunteers 
from the community. Given limited time and resources, the chances 
of them facing problems with broadcast is very high.


I guess the issue here is more of 'expectation' management  more 
than anything. Give them some breathing space... they are trying 
their best with the little time they have to get the broadcast issues 
sorted out.


Just keep your fingers crossed...and wait for them to upload the 
various speeches to the server over the next few days

Carl told me that if fmod goods as good as AGG is for graphics, he 
may consider it .....

.... yes, sometimes we take things for granted .... not letting ourselves 
to think more deeply - in fact - it is fantastic, that ppl from various 
place on Earth can talk one to each other in real-time (although 
in text form here) - 10 years back it was hardly possible, and I 
remember buying one product from Zachary, US, sending them my order 
via Fax, they sent me diskette by post, it came broken, so new fax, 
and I got new diskette with my DOS app I ordered in two months ... 
and I was happy :-)

maybe Carl just announced that he is selling Rebol to MS and folks

(you can also just use makedoc2 and get some html out of that :)

I am fine with show2.r, although having 2 monitor set-up, rebol centers 
it between the screens. And note - secondary display here is 90degrees 
rotated. Imo rebol does not do good job in regards to display. At 
least it hopefully does not crash your app anymore, once changing 
the resolution :-)
