Kaj 26-Feb-2013 [1471x3] | console-pro test.red |
while test.red contains
view ["test"] | |
Bo 26-Feb-2013 [1474] | From Announce regarding Carl's brief reappearance merging code changes: Yes, the natural division where people are good at something and bad at others is usually drawn between dealing with people and dealing with everything else. Delegation is a people task, probably not one of his strongest areas. |
Arnold 26-Feb-2013 [1475] | He, Carl, is probably busy figuring out how these radio signals go from emitting as particle electrons into waves travelling into every direction and re-emerging as electrons in radioantennas, without referring to "and then the magic happens" kind of reasoning. And the average hb is particularly excellent in procrastination. |
sqlab 27-Feb-2013 [1476] | sorry wrong group Kaj, the problem, that the console window closed, was caused by my wong assumption, that the convention for file names is the same as in Rebol. i.e. read -> crash read %test -- > crash write %test -- > crash read "test" --> works |
Kaj 27-Feb-2013 [1477x2] | That's why I wanted you to test with known good files :-) |
The file! type hasn't been implemented in Red yet
Scot 27-Feb-2013 [1479] | DSL's will become the norm in about 5 more years. Seems to happen with Carl. Carl's multitasking personal computer + 15 years, everybody has it. Carl's DVD like TV set top box + 15 years, everybody has it. Carl's multimedia computer + 15 years, everybody has it. ...etc (there are more). I would not be surprised of something like JSON becomes semantically rich. |
BrianH 27-Feb-2013 [1480x2] | There are already schema proposals for JSON that can enhance the limited semantics. |
(that was me agreeing with you)
Scot 27-Feb-2013 [1482x2] | I gathered that. Wish Carl could either be or attract the kinds of people that can sell what he makes. I'm sure what he's working on next will be just as mind blowing and advanced. |
BTW: BrianH, I am both impressed with and appreciate your work. Did I ever meet you. I've been out of the loop for a few years?
BrianH 27-Feb-2013 [1484x5] | I'm sure of that too. However, that is his day job. Hopefully he'll eventually get to use Rebol there. |
Unless you worked for Qtask in 2008 and met me at the company meeting in December, then no. The only other people in the community who have met me in person are my own recruits. I've talked to Carl and Bo on the phone though.
(not recently though) | |
Right at the point when it became appropriate for me to go to devcons, they stopped holding them in USA and I stopped having the money to travel outside USA. So unless my financial situation changes, or someone sponsors me, or visits me, then noone will meet me
...in person (AltME flaked on me). I am working on improving my financials though.
james_nak 28-Feb-2013 [1489] | Robert and Cyphere - Thank you so much for the Android version! |
Cyphre 28-Feb-2013 [1490x4] | James, you are welcome ;) |
BTW Carl restarted the "R3 chat" server so you can just type: "chat" in the Android console and leave message here.
With the latest Android version it is nice to try type: HELP in the chat input prompt to see the BROWSE works nicely ;)
also you can type LB to get the messages content into browser but there is small glitch in the local file URL handling so you need to correct the URL string in the browser to see the messages. Will be fixed in next release.
Endo 28-Feb-2013 [1494] | That's cool! :) |
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1495x2] | I believe that R3 Chat would be the PERFECT solution for REBOL communications, if we could build a more mature HTML front end. Will Carl release the source? |
Or should the community work on reverse engineering and building our own drop-in chat solution?
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1497x2] | It's been asked a few times already. He always ignores the question, it seems. |
Almost looks deliberate.
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1499] | I'd sponsor work on engineering a new chat system. |
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1500] | But I agree that a 'built-in' way to gather the community is key. |
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1501] | Copy what it does - it's not that complex. Anyone wanna make a few extra bucks? |
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1502x2] | I think some people around here had volunteered with the condition of someone sponsoring the effort. |
It seems a shame though, given that the code exists.
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1504] | I'm past that now - R2 code exists, but we'll never get it. Let's move on and make all new contributions permanent. |
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1505] | Maybe BrianH would consider this. R3 could be fixed up as needed along the way. |
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1506x2] | How much do we need to get chat going? |
Money, I mean. | |
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1508x2] | I guess it depends on the specs. |
What already existed in R3 chat?
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1510x2] | http://www.rebol.com/r3/chat.r |
That's what we see with "source chat" in R3
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1512x4] | The thing is that a more widely useful chat/collaboration feature implies a very good UI. That's not something that we have too many people capable of at the moment. |
That is just the front end.
Nick, did you see my post here of a few days ago on Algodoo?
There's a reason for me asking...
NickA 28-Feb-2013 [1516x3] | Yep, I looked at it briefly. Definitely a cool addition to the sorts of "modern" things Doc and other have been looking at. |
REBOL and Red needs any sort of "sparkle" possible to make people take a look.
What's your reason? | |
AdrianS 28-Feb-2013 [1519x2] | Well, my greater point with it is its involvement in education. Your chat just now, with Scot and James, made me think some more about it. |
They, Algoryx, already seem to have a pretty good foothold in education.
