Kaj 27-Feb-2011 [236] | Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves likewise. Thanks to all contributors |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [237x3] | I'm somewhere in Belgium now. |
Btw, I'm currently connecting from the train on the road back to Paris at 200km/h using the train's wireless network! (I guess it's using a satellite connection, because latency is high and upload speed very very low). Nice technological achievement anyway...if only the train could get to destination without being, on average 20mn late, that would be even greater! ;-)
Cheyenne presentation slides are available here: http://cheyenne-server.org/blog.rsp?view=25 There aren't much slides because the focus was on the coding demo. Demo files won't be added until I get home, no way to maintain a SFTP connection long enough from here to upload them to Cheyenne site.
Kaj 27-Feb-2011 [240] | :-) Thanks! |
nve 27-Feb-2011 [241] | Waiting for photos and videos... ;) |
Bas 27-Feb-2011 [242] | I see AltME is also working on high speed trains |
Kaj 27-Feb-2011 [243x3] | Years ago I had a bog slow connection and AltME was the only communication system that kept working |
I've added the slides to the Resources section of the site
I've been using Cheyenne for a few years now, but I learned several things from Nenad's presentation
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [246x2] | Red presentation slides: http://www.red-lang.org |
Does anyone know who's the author of the "rebolution" image I've used on slide 4? I had that picture on my disk, but can't find it online. I wanted to give proper credits to its author.
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [248x5] | doc, are you interested in knowing about spelling mistakes on your slides?? If not, I'll keep quiet! |
Probably not spelling mistakes .. just french instead of english
what does bob the artist mean? Does it mean ease of use for the masses?
( reminds me of Joe the plumber! )
slide 5 .. is that us trying to see where Carl is ??
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [253] | It was an expression I saw used at the beginning of R3 project. It was meaning "make things as easy as possible for non-programmers" like e.g., graphic designers, hence "bob the artist". "John the programmer" is an expression I used to make the point (I was thinking about John Carmack ;-)). |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [254] | Well, you've certainly got your work cut out for you .. hope you have your own cave prepared! |
nve 27-Feb-2011 [255] | In the country of wine, we have a lot ! ;) |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [256x2] | Slide 5: yes, I guess they are looking for a savior. I was on the boat too until yesterday (among the sick ones), when I jumped into the water to try to reach an island nearby. ;-) |
No cave here, sorry. | |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [258] | I think I'm waiting for another earthquake to lift me out of the water |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [259] | spelling mistakes: yes please. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [260] | slide 1, libraries |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [261] | With the big wave coming in front of the boat, I'm not sure you'll have the time to wait. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [262x2] | since => for, an happy => a happy |
slide 2, since => for | |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [264] | libraires: typo from french, you've guessed right. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [265] | slide 6, choosed => chose |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [266] | Ok, I'll fix them and will re-upload the presentation. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [267x2] | slide 7, since => for |
slide 12, naive => native ?
nve 27-Feb-2011 [269x2] | No it's naive |
I do the same mistake...
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [271] | Nope, "naive" is the right term I wanted to use. In this context, it means "not-optimizing". |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [272x2] | that's why I put the question mark :) |
naïve | |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [274] | I wasn't sure about the two-points in english. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [275x2] | It depends on the quality of your word processor! |
this slide rocket is slow as ... keeps hanging on me
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [277] | Oh really? It seems quite responsive from here. I'll add a PDF version. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [278x3] | data parallelism ... can you apply dataflow principles here? |
Yes, I have to keep reloading to start from the beginning
as it gets stuck | |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [281] | It's about partitioning data, not sure it's related to dataflow principles. |
GrahamC 27-Feb-2011 [282x2] | You're talking about multicore processors .. but wondering about multicpu as well |
Linda or tuple-space | |
Dockimbel 27-Feb-2011 [284x2] | I made the focus on multicores because they are much more common than multiple processors architectures. |
Linda & tuple-space are ways to solve the shared data synchronization problem, but they seem too costly for local usage (but should work well on a LAN I guess).
