Henrik 21-Sep-2007 [51] | You in fact remind be of Radar O'Reilly in MASH who once wrote a letter to his mother. He wrote "I write to you very slowly, because I know you are not a fast reader." ;-) |
btiffin 21-Sep-2007 [52] | :) |
Chris 22-Sep-2007 [53x2] | I tried the wiki approach to live broadcasting, but may have introduced it too late to have it in the attendees' conscienciousness. Whatever, it didn't contain the depth of relayed information I thought it had the potential for. Video is fine, but is fleeting (when it works). Liveblogging may be easier to implement, but then there is little structure to information beyond time. |
Whichever route, it'll take one or two attendees to dedicate themselves to relaying information.
Rondon 23-Sep-2007 [55x3] | I vote for Brazil |
I can arrange everything here at the Convention Bureau
In Brasilia, the capital or in Rio
Kaj 23-Sep-2007 [58x2] | Brazil would be cool :-) |
I vote for Rio, then | |
Robert 24-Sep-2007 [60] | Looks like mostly 95% of all people than have to travel quite far. |
Graham 24-Sep-2007 [61] | there are more australian rebol users than other countries after the USA and France .. so I would vote Australia ... somewhere. |
Ashley 24-Sep-2007 [62] | Melbourne, but I'm biased ;) |
PeterWood 24-Sep-2007 [63] | I thought Czech had more Rebollers than Australia |
Rebolek 24-Sep-2007 [64] | Interesting question. Per square km definitely ;) |
Allen 24-Sep-2007 [65x2] | Yes, would be nice to get the conference on this continent for a change. |
Antipodean Rebols - I'm sure there is more. Anton, Ashley, Andrew, Allen, Brett, Graham, Colin, James
Graham 24-Sep-2007 [67] | and a few more on the mailing list ... |
Terry 25-Sep-2007 [68] | My wife is Tasmanian.. does that count? |
Sunanda 25-Sep-2007 [69] | More useful than votes for locations would be rought statements of intent from potential host. If there is more than one set of potential hosts, we could vote on the best / most likely to succeed :-) |
Rondon 26-Sep-2007 [70] | ok. What should be the criterias to be a selected host ? |
Cyphre 27-Sep-2007 [71] | I'm able to organize really good devcon in Czech Republic. There will be two parts: the devcon itself and also cool fun part for a group of people who want to stay for couple of days longer and together enjoy local sights, wine cellars(Carl? ;)) etc. If there is some interest it could be in 2008 or later in 2009, it doesn't matter. |
Robert 27-Sep-2007 [72] | CZ sounds good to me. |
Pekr 27-Sep-2007 [73] | It might sound surprising, but I am for CZ too :-) |
Rondon 27-Sep-2007 [74] | Well, I want to candidate Brazil to be the place. |
Gabriele 27-Sep-2007 [75] | i'd vote for cz, close from here, and finally i get to meet petr ;) |
james_nak 27-Sep-2007 [76x3] | Yeah, if you put that way, that would be nice. Do we have an app that shows where were all from? I wonder if Terry could whip up us something? I recall at one time there was a link to a google maps page that posted little balloons. |
Absolute Appliances 800-385-4032
Oooh. Of course the line above has nothing to with Devcon but if you want a nice stove...
Gregg 28-Sep-2007 [79] | There was a world map at one point, maybe done by Chriss Ross-Gill on an old IOS world. |
Alan 28-Sep-2007 [80x3] | errru has/had one called planet.r I have a copy and put it here http://home.comcast.net/~amigarebol/planet.r |
you will need to input your info via the box in lower right
looks like his page page is 404 :(
Terry 28-Sep-2007 [83] | http://www.foureyesjokeshop.com/ProductImages/Bun_in_the_Oven_funny_couple_costume.jpg |
Chris 29-Sep-2007 [84x2] | Graham -- needs an update: http://www.ross-gill.com/r/rebcon-map.r |
Any idea why this script is crashing newer View?
Brock 29-Sep-2007 [86] | The version of your script that I have is showing only the time-zone map in newer views. |
Anton 4-Oct-2007 [87] | Whatever the live streaming can achieve on the day, I think it would be good if a high quality video was stored for later offline access. |
Louis 4-Oct-2007 [88x2] | Anton, I agree. Live streaming just doesn't cut it for me. My internet connection is too slow. |
Also, there must be a mic up close to the speaker---perhaps a lapel mic. Otherwise the audio is awful. The equipment needs to be set up a day or two before the event, and some testing done to make sure everything is working properly. It pays to have someone with experience do this.
Cyphre 5-Oct-2007 [90x2] | Chris: the crash looks like a some strangebug in the DRAW parser: If you swap line: image images/pin prefs/location to: image prefs/location images/pin it works ok |
(it has something to do with the path evaluation in the DRAW parser imo)
Chris 5-Oct-2007 [92x2] | Thanks, Cyphre. Duly updated... |
do http://www.ross-gill.com/r/rebcon-map.r
james_nak 6-Oct-2007 [94x2] | Brock, I know you don't get much sunshine but your "circle" doesn't show up on the rebcon-map. Thanks Chris for this, by the way. |
I may be able to help in the video streaming area. Our company has encoders that will stream at a lower rate and archive locally at a higher rate.
Chris 6-Oct-2007 [96] | In case you're wondering, I made this map for DevCon '05. |
james_nak 6-Oct-2007 [97] | The first one I think... Davis, Rome?, Paris, tiem flies. |
Brock 6-Oct-2007 [98] | I come from the land down under!! Actually I made a mistake... dragged my dot off the screen, thus lost it altogether. :-( |
james_nak 6-Oct-2007 [99x2] | Oh, I thought you were up in the northern part of the US (where it rains alot). |
I also did not know the dots were draggable.
