[DevCon2007] DevCon 2007
older newer | first last |
Maxim 11-Feb-2007 [131] | you don't even have to stress with a priority :-) |
Gabriele 12-Feb-2007 [132] | i wish it was possible to pay via paypal... :) |
Christophe 12-Feb-2007 [133] | I understand everybody is waiting for the organizers to pick a hotel so everybody can stay at the same place. |
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [134] | maybe not everybody, but a few of us yes. |
Christophe 12-Feb-2007 [135x3] | The people from Paris are now checking several possible hotels do achieve this. But it is likely that it will not be possible, because the conference is taking place in a period when many other colleges and universities (Sorbonne,...) are actually organising conferences. So are most hotels not able to welcome groups of persons. |
The organisers in Paris are now looking for some hotels they can recommend.
More news on this soon on he website.
Maxim 12-Feb-2007 [138x2] | will the conference location be opened late? |
I am wondering if there will be a place for people to meet, show off and exchange stuff as a group... later during the evening/night?
Gregg 15-Feb-2007 [140] | I probably won't make it this year :-(, will have to wait for the DVD. ;-) |
Mchean 21-Feb-2007 [141x2] | I hope there are MVP awards - I nominate Maxim |
though i won't be there | |
Maxim 21-Feb-2007 [143] | <blush> |
Christophe 23-Feb-2007 [144] | Website updated with some hotels data; it seems not possible to get a central place for everybody down there, for the reason given earlier.Sorry for that... |
Cindy 24-Feb-2007 [145] | Carl and I are staying at the Hotel Excelsior on rue Cujas. It has good prices, large rooms, internet access, and a patio. An other good choice for the area is Hotel Desmines. |
[unknown: 9] 27-Feb-2007 [146] | I'm planning to come to the DevCon (my lovely wife will be joining me). Since I will be in Europe, and I can stay longer, if anyone would like to meet (for example about Qtask), this would be a good time to speak up. Feel free to post to me privately…. |
Mchean 27-Feb-2007 [147x2] | Hotel Excelsior http://www.hotels-paris-hotels-france.com/2-stars-hotels/_paris-hotel-excelsior/Hotel-paris-index-Eng.htm |
I'm looking for a place later this year
Gabriele 28-Feb-2007 [149] | Reichart: i'd love to have a long talk about qtask and all the other stuff :) but i assume you are planning that already. |
[unknown: 9] 1-Mar-2007 [150] | Yup. |
Maxim 5-Mar-2007 [151] | new session added: "Rencontre: a Rebol Agent-Oriented Middleware" by François Jouen |
Sunanda 5-Apr-2007 [152] | Useful hint for those preparing a DevCon presentation :-) http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/04/04/powerpoint_bad/ |
Sunanda 12-Apr-2007 [153] | Fairly unhelpful discussion (so far with 8 posts) about DevCon: http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3699 Could some Amigans add some substance? |
Geomol 12-Apr-2007 [154] | done |
Henrik 13-Apr-2007 [155] | Geomol, I see you wrote: "So if you're a programmer, system developer or the like, it might be a good idea to visit a REBOL DevCon!" I hope there will be beginner's sessions? That might attract a few more people. |
Alan 13-Apr-2007 [156] | Geomol:see my comments there= AW |
Maxim 16-Apr-2007 [157] | DEVCON SITE IS BROKEN its asking for authentication |
Sunanda 17-Apr-2007 [158] | I emailed Francois. He says: <<The server is down. I hope it 'll operational within the day. Sorry>> |
Sunanda 18-Apr-2007 [159] | Looks like it is back now |
Maxim 18-Apr-2007 [160] | ok. new sessions and speakers added... |
Pekr 23-Apr-2007 [161x2] | Will there be on-line session from DevCon? At least for Carl's keynote speach? |
Or at least someone active here on AltME, so that we could have few comments?
Gabriele 23-Apr-2007 [163] | petr, just come to see it live ;) |
Pekr 23-Apr-2007 [164] | it's not possible :-( .... just 3 weeks in my new job, no vacation .... and I can't claim my boss, that rebol is part of our IT strategy .... but maybe once - who knows :-) |
BrianH 23-Apr-2007 [165] | I second the request for DevCon reporting. I will not be able to make to Europe this year. |
Henrik 23-Apr-2007 [166] | some nice videos of presentations, at least? |
BrianH 23-Apr-2007 [167] | Yeah, I liked the videos from a couple years ago. |
Gabriele 24-Apr-2007 [168] | i think i will be bringing my camera, and i can shoot some videos, not sure i'll have the time to edit and publish them immediately though. i hope the organization didn't forget about creating videos :) |
Henrik 24-Apr-2007 [169] | gabriele, do you want a smaller timer this year? :-) |
Gabriele 24-Apr-2007 [170x2] | i won't be presenting (formally) so i don't need it. i would guess the organization has thought about that... or at least i hope so. |
(actually, i'd want a much bigger one, that just shuts down the pc after the allotted time)
Henrik 24-Apr-2007 [172] | oh, ok :-) I'll just keep working on rugby |
Graham 24-Apr-2007 [173x2] | I hope someone does some testing first .. check that sound works etc. |

Sunanda 26-Apr-2007 [178] | Some pics of Paris (and beyond) to whet the appeite for travel: http://thrillingwonder.blogspot.com/2007/04/cool-murals-and-painted-buildings.html |
Pekr 30-Apr-2007 [179x2] | Content of Carl's presentation was updated: Introducing REBOL 3.0 by Carl Sassenrath (The content will be spread in probably more than one session) Opening and a historical note. What makes a system popular? Is it the language, the platform, or the applications? The bigger picture: the virtual OS. Moving beyond conventional OS models. Being a latform. The core of modern applications - it's not what you think. The motivation for R3. The guiding theme. Portablity and extensibility - the R3 open foundation. Overview of R3 features. Environments - embedding REBOL. Building your own version of REBOL - within a standard. Plugins - extending REBOL. The IO device model - how to create a device. New datatypes. The Module architecture. Tasks, threads, and more. The new graphics system. All new port design. New debugging methods. New object tricks. DB access nd indexed files. IPv6 discussion. Compatibility - taming the lion. What's next? When and where can you get a copy? The goal of DevBase and DocBase. |
It is really a pity I can't go to Paris :-(
