Gabriele 1-Sep-2005 [812x2] | (UDP works better here though. TCP tends to stall.) |
is it working for you with TCP?
JaimeVargas 1-Sep-2005 [814] | -5408 Timeout error. |
Gabriele 1-Sep-2005 [815x2] | this is strange, it works here on the pc but i get a timeout on the mac. |
maybe DSS always uses UDP, whatever is the setting for the broadcaster?
JaimeVargas 1-Sep-2005 [817] | Humm. That is strange. I think the broadcaster set the proper sdp indicating wich transport to use. |
Gabriele 1-Sep-2005 [818x4] | maybe that is for broadcaster<--->DSS |
then DSS<--->user is negotiated?
though, it should switch automatically to tcp in that case...
aha, here is the reason:
JaimeVargas 1-Sep-2005 [822] | what is the contents of live.mov |
Gabriele 1-Sep-2005 [823x4] | the QT player is looking for http://motoko.rebol.it/teststream.sdp |
which does not exist...
it should sue rtsp not http
let me try making a link...
JaimeVargas 1-Sep-2005 [827] | Yes. You need to publish the sdp file. |
Gabriele 1-Sep-2005 [828x5] | it *is* published |
but not on port 80 | |
DSS should know that | |
can't make it work on the Mac (now the sdp is on port 80 too)
will try again tomorrow.
JaimeVargas 1-Sep-2005 [833x2] | Yep. Not working. |
Tomorrow then. | |
[unknown: 9] 1-Sep-2005 [835] | For me it brings up the QuickTime logo and play box, and then just cycles. But no errors. Perhaps mention on this page exactly when the live boradcast is expected, and tell people to bookmark this page. |
Gabriele 2-Sep-2005 [836x7] | yep - page is not linked anywhere yet and is just for testing purposes. i guess we'll have a lot to add when we go "public". (also, i'd make it public just when the stream starts. so that there is no confusion. earlier, just a message on the site that says "on sept. 30 a live stream will be available through this site") |
the stream is up again. i will be "debugging" qt to try to understand what it is actually doing
ok, as i assumed, the setting on the broadcaster about using TCP or UDP are only relevant for the connection between the broadcaster and the server
on windows with firefox and QT 7, qt gets the stream from a TCP connection to motoko.rebol.it:554
so, anyone not being able to connect: can you connect to tcp://motoko.rebol.it:554 ?
(repeating the link if it has scrolled too much for you: http://www.colellachiara.com/devcon05/live.html )
(oging to lunch, i'll leave the stream on anyway.)
Robert 2-Sep-2005 [843] | I just booked my flight to Milan. Here is my arrival data: 29-09-2005 18:25 in Milan, Malpensa [MXP] TERMINAL 1 I have rented a car as well. So if someone is arriving around the same time let me know and we can drive together. |
Gabriele 8-Sep-2005 [844x3] | For those coming to Rome: |
I'm going to buy the train tickets in advance (because we need a reservation and it's better to do that sooner than later). You can pay me when we meet in Rome.
I'll post here the exact ticket cost, but it should be €47 per person.
Gregg 8-Sep-2005 [847] | Thanks for doing that Gabriele! |
Ashley 8-Sep-2005 [848] | Ditto. |
MichaelB 12-Sep-2005 [849] | @Gabriele: Is there already known where the hotel in Treviglio will be? I'll have vacation before the conference at the Garda lake and I don't know how my internet access will be, to get to know easily any information new on the conference website. |
Maarten 12-Sep-2005 [850] | @Gabriele: I am curious too. |
Mario 12-Sep-2005 [851] | MichaelB: The Hotel is in the outskirts of a small town bordering with Treviglio. www.hotelverri.it |
[unknown: 9] 12-Sep-2005 [852] | So, in general how good is Europe about open WiFI? In America, I think Starbucks offers free internet access (wireless), or perhaps you need to keep buying coffee...I don't drink coffe so I have never confirmed this. In general I find that if I drive by any office compkexe I can get an open signal though. Even in Maui, I went to the industrial area, and there was a perfect connection while I ate at a little food place in an odd industrial park. |
Gabriele 12-Sep-2005 [853x4] | I don't know about Europe in general, but in italy WiFi access is quite rare. you can find it at large airports and so on... but not much more than that i'm afraid. |
today i bought the tickets for the train Rome-Milan
i got a discount, so in the end it's going to be € 45 per person.
i think i'll send all of you a reminder email with the tickets you requested, total money due and so on.
Robert 12-Sep-2005 [857] | Reichart, open WiFi is not that often available. You need a provider to access WiFi. There are a lot of HotSpots but not for free. |
Sunanda 12-Sep-2005 [858] | Yep. Most hotspots certainly in the UK cost money, often quite a lot. That includes Starbucks. On the other hand, there are a lot of unprotected networks....Not that I'd want to enter a password while using one. |
BrianW 12-Sep-2005 [859] | Starbucks WiFi costs in the US, too. I am lucky that Seattle has a lot of small local coffeeshops with free WiFi. In one right now, actually :-) |
MichaelB 13-Sep-2005 [860] | @Mario: Thanks for the link to the hotel. The hotel looks pretty nice to me. :-) |
[unknown: 9] 13-Sep-2005 [861] | Yeah, there is a big movement to make WiFI free in america, I would have to agree, it is worth it. Like being able to call 911 for free from a payphone. Perhaps the max throughput would have a threshold. Anyway, Europe, well, I guess I will be always seeking an office where I can plug in. |
