vlc can handle the stream fine for a period, but then dies

QT does not work. But maybe my PC is not fast enough.

after trying to restart its death now. before it was first mesay, 
then i pressed stop and start and it was clear.

i restarted it now.

didec: cpu shouldn't be a problem. even with h.264 it never eats 
more than 50% here on my 1.25 Ghz mini

the bitrate is very high. between 3-500 kbps

realvideo is too much proprietary for my taste. ;) but... i'll have 
a look at it too maybe.

it's likely that would cost money though.

qtbroadscaster seems to hang sometimes with 263

probably. I also hate to say WMV, but I've seen the best streams 
without problems in that format

me too, but only for mpeg transport, and from a dvd source.

from a DV (firewire camera) source the only thing working out of 
the box is QT on MacOS

mencoder uses ffmpeg internally.
