anything to do with their decision.  IMHO many of you were very rude 
to Heather when she posted to the list.

I have the same question as PhilB:

If the files will be torrents .... does anyone have any suggestions 
for a clean bit-torrent client .... ie No spyware ....

Jean-Francois: I downloaded BitComet, but I am a newbie at this stuff 
as well, so not sure if this has spyware or not.  Haven't noticed

I'm downloading at 140kB/s using ABC 2.6.5. I don't know about any 
spyware but it doesn't mean that there are not.

ABC doesn't have spyware. Any torrent client will do, as the speed 
mostly depends on the seeders - the client overhead is negligable. 
I used Azureus, worked fine.

The advantage of using a new client over the original is that in 
the new clients you can control the bandwidth.  If you don't want 
the torrent client to soak up all your bandwidth .. use a new one.

The original client is OK if you are downloading one torrent and 
don't care to keep track of the file after you downloaded it. If 
you download multiple torrents It is better to have a queuing client 
like Azureus.

Alan, do you have a firewall appliance? If so, you need to open a 
port. If the firewall appliance has UPNP support, Azureus can open 
the port for you automatically if you tell it to. BitTorrent is a 
two-way protocol.

It is also best to tell Azureus to do all of its communications over 
a single port (this may not be optional now). Some ISPs also block 
or slow down the standard BitTorrent ports, so you may want to change 
that port 6881 to something like 50000.

BriahH;yes a belkin router and I told it via the congig window to 
allow ports 6881-6883 to be open,but still getting a nat error :(

Well, ZoneAlarm may be causing the problem. What software in particular 
throws the NAT Error, and does it provide more detail?

I am trying to config Azureus and getting the problem when it comes 
to the port dialog page

Oh, the autoconfig wizard. You can ignore that error for now - it 
is probably caused by proxy settings or some such. As long as at 
least some of the seeders are poked through their NATs or otherwise 
visible to the net, you should still be able to download.

Those are my settings for Azureus taken from my xDSL modem NAT

You need to make sure that the router also forwards the port to your 
ip address.
