well, from experience I know that Altme doesn't like proxy servers

last year DevCon... Carl mention one of their lessons learnt from 
IOS is that sometimes encrypted message may contain 'dirty characters'...that 
can be rejected by proxy, firewall etc.

'dirty' = 'non approved words...

and since they're at a school, they almost are certainly using a 
free proxy like squid.

so, we can all blame Reichart !

I would not do so, as Reichart is right now the only connection with 
DevCon :-)

Just sharing coordinates.  Type in your name, and click where you

Yep, next stage would be to -- a) save your name and dot, b) show 
a list of names, c) highlight the dot of the selected name, and d) 
show their local time.

ok, so still not clear if the stream will work or not, I give up 
too ... going to dress myself up and prepare to move to my work, 
there I will be on AltME at least (but via GPRS, so no chance to 
have enough throughput to watch the eventually running stream ...)

The stream was real fun for me last year ... I have my gfx card connected 
to tv-out typed here on altme on the primary monitor, watching video 
stream on TV ... it was cool ...

would switching to ios work? it goes thru proxies?

Agreed. But trying ios first would cost 5 minutes. OTOH other messengers 
would be multiplatform.

you forget the 5 min delay between each message in iOS messenger

only on loaded servers. fresh ones are faster.
