Kaj 15-Jun-2007 [904x3] | There's a specific open-source license for that, but never heard of it again |
Open source only works if it's egalitarian
Multi-user: check (unlike Haiku)
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [907x2] | so, can 10 users be logged in to the same PC with their own video cards, keyboards and mice? |
simultaneously? | |
Kaj 15-Jun-2007 [909x2] | The army can use it if they want. I think it's our responsibility to take the technology in our own hands and become a people's army again |
No, partly because we don't support multiple video cards yet
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [911x2] | oh .. no multiple monitors then either? |
ie. dual head videocards
Kaj 15-Jun-2007 [913] | Not yet |
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [914] | open office? |
Pekr 15-Jun-2007 [915] | Graham - you are pushing too hard :-) Those questions will get Kaj into depression. You surely don't want him becoming part of your EMR system, right? :-) |
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [916] | just looking at the chess screenshot .. white is playing an unusual opening |
Pekr 15-Jun-2007 [917] | :-) |
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [918x2] | black's last move was e7-e5 which sacrifices a pawn for no good reason. |
I think you need a better screenshot!
Rebolek 15-Jun-2007 [920] | :))) |
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [921x2] | Pekr, an OS that boots in 10 seconds, has a fully functional scriptable browser, printing, and rebol would be ideal for my EMR as a client platforml. |
Skype as well would be good.
Pekr 15-Jun-2007 [923x2] | Graham - what about some small linux distros? E.g. knoppix? |
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
Kaj 15-Jun-2007 [925x2] | Yeah, OOo is depressing |
I'll relay the Chess complaint :-)
Graham 15-Jun-2007 [927] | I've downloaded a livePC of DSL but couldn't get it to work for me ... no internet connectivity. Maybe it's because I tried a vista host. |
Kaj 16-Jun-2007 [928x2] | It's bug 248: |
http://development.syllable.org/BugDar/showreport.php?bugid=248
Graham 16-Jun-2007 [930] | LOL |
[unknown: 9] 16-Jun-2007 [931] | Which bug tracker are you using? |
Graham 16-Jun-2007 [932] | See the attribution at the bottom of the page http://www.bluestatic.org/software/bugdar/ |
[unknown: 9] 16-Jun-2007 [933] | Yeah, actually that was a misspost, I wanted to actually ask, why is he not using Trac? |
Graham 16-Jun-2007 [934] | trac spam? |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [935x3] | Bugdar was chosen without discussion by our webmaster from a while ago, but it's actually a fairly nice, simple tracker, that does what it says: just bug tracking. I've always found Trac a bit too convoluted. You have to buy in to the whole concept and then it defines your entire site. We already have a site that we built from pieces that we customized, so Bugdar was a reasonable addition |
I do want to replace the entire site piece meal with our own REBOL system in the future, though
By the way, the author of Puri Chess has responded
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [938] | wow, only at bug 248? |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [939] | It hasn't been open that long. :-) About eight monts now. The current Syllable release is the first one that was produced under formal, public bug tracking, so a lot of bugs got squashed. Previously, we didn't have very many reports, and the time to fix them is scarce, anyway |
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [940] | almost seems like you should give a gift to the person who reports bug 250... a free copy of syllable ;-p |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [941x2] | Another way to look at it is that only a few percent of our code, like 1 or 2 %, is ours. The rest is all ported and adapted, so for an operating system in its development phase, made by a handful of people, it's amazingly stable |
:-) | |
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [943] | I promise to download the vmware image in the near future. |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [944] | Great :-) |
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [945] | there is also the DSL which is tempting me... |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [946] | If near is in the order of weeks, it would be best to wait for 0.6.4 |
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [947x2] | (just for linux compatibility testing... I myself HATE linux for the desktop) |
bah, vmware images are non aggressive things :-) I was thinking before that... does syllable have a C compiler setup internally within syllable?
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [949] | Not in the base distribution, but you only have to install the Developer's Delight package, and maybe a few other individual packages depending on what you want to compile |
Maxim 17-Jun-2007 [950] | hehe I love the name... I can see will ferell singing it in my mind :-) |
Graham 17-Jun-2007 [951] | Oh well .. mea culpa. But white should not be in this position in the first place. |
Kaj 17-Jun-2007 [952] | Well, I guess white is having a bad day. :-) I don't know if it's the human or the computer |
Kaj 29-Jun-2007 [953] | The 2007 Syllable Conference was held last weekend, on the Frisian sailing ship Stęd Sleat. We called it "Boat to Freedom". :-) My report is here: |
