yeksoon 23-Dec-2008 [579] | late to the party. so, where to I go to sign up to join the DevCon? Or do I just pop into some web site and view the presentation? |
NickA 24-Dec-2008 [580x2] | james_nak, I think I've gotten everyone, but no additonal presenters. |
yeksoon, I added you to the list at http://rockfactory.us/events/devcon.html . The event will take place at 3pm EST, December 27th, at http://rockfactory.us/rooms/room22 . user/pass is devcon/devcon - just pop in, watch, and take part ... see you then!
Reichart 24-Dec-2008 [582x2] | I wlil be attacking the page soon (tonight). |
OK, I can chop up my art, and turn it into a syndicated Wiki, which we can then update quickly. But I need content: https://www.qtask.com/files.cgi/REBOLDevCon.png?tab=get&uuid=SUEG8343C26V82PWP5BLFKSMU4QT&filename=REBOLDevCon.png t would be good to have: - 3 items of news (Perhaps an update on R3, something about products that are being worked on, and something else)? - A list of speakers (is it really just Chris and me, and perhaps a couple of the Qtask team?) - List of when they want to talk - Exact sign up instructions I can put this all together easily enough.
NickA 24-Dec-2008 [584] | Reichart, the page looks great :) I haven't heard from any other presenters, and do need to reserve bandwidth today. How long will you, Chris, and the Qtask team need? LAST CALL for presentations! |
Reichart 24-Dec-2008 [585] | I will take 2 hours, which includes me, and anyone else on my team. |
NickA 24-Dec-2008 [586] | Thanks Reichart :) Unless I hear differently, I'll reserve enough bandwitdh for 50 attendees to attend a 4 hour event, and enough storage space to record the whole thing. That should give us plenty of wiggle room. |
Reichart 24-Dec-2008 [587] | Agreed! |
NickA 24-Dec-2008 [588] | Everything is now set up and ready to go. |
Reichart 24-Dec-2008 [589] | Rock'n |
Chris 26-Dec-2008 [590x2] | I've set up a wiki at http://rebolconf.info-- I'll leave it open for editing until the morning, after which only approved users may contribute. The design is not as intricate as I'd prefer -- it is what it is for now. Contributions use a slimmed-down make-doc format. Let me know of any problems... |
Please use your AltMe name to register.
Janko 27-Dec-2008 [592] | Can somebody post here before the conf. starts because I am not 100% sure I got the EST time conversion to my timezone right. To my understanding it will start 10:30 hours from now. |
Sunanda 27-Dec-2008 [593] | Start time is 20:00 UTC. |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [594] | all those damned UTC, EST ... isn't there any simple measure for one's local time? |
Henrik 27-Dec-2008 [595] | swatch internet time? |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [596x3] | there should be time counter capability in calendar here, or something like that. Stating 20:00 UTC is like saying nothing ... |
ah, finally something - http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx
http://www.dxing.com/utcgmt.htm- UTC = GMT .... there is a clock, which will show current time counter in relation to your timezone ...
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [599] | Anyone have all the connection details for todays conference? |
Sunanda 27-Dec-2008 [600] | <Stating 20:00 UTC is like saying nothing ...> Part of the idea behind ISO 8601 is that everyone should be able to convert their local time to UTC and vice versa. So times specified as UTC are unambiguous. Anything else, in an international context, is mis-interpretable. See you at DevCon! |
NickA 27-Dec-2008 [601] | It's currently about 10:45am here in Eastern time, USA, and I'm planning of being at http://rockfactory.us/rooms/room22at 3pm (4 hours 15 minutes from now) - the Altme timestamp should help clear things up. |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [602] | yes, 21 hour here - GMT + 1 (UTC0100) |
Janko 27-Dec-2008 [603] | ok, thanks.. yes we are GMT + 1 too.. where are you from Pekr? |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [604] | Czech Republic, timezone Prague ... |
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [605] | -6 here |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [606] | And you, Janko? |
Janko 27-Dec-2008 [607] | A little lower on the map.. Slovenia. Do we all (viewers) login with devcon u/p when the conf will start? |
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [608] | i believe so. |
Pekr 27-Dec-2008 [609x2] | I am not sure I will be able to make it. Some family duties aproaching. I wonder if there will be video-recorded session of this first virtual devcon? The beauty is, that we can have such devcons 4times a year, if we wish so .... |
However - the next real devcon is going to be in Prague, hopefully September 2009
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [611x2] | Weather may impact my availability but I intend to attend. We are expecting Tornado's this afternoon in the midwest. |
Going to go from 70's to the 30's in a matter of an hour or so.from what I understand.
Janko 27-Dec-2008 [613x2] | huh.. what do you mean 70's and 30's ? |
(huh is for tornados) | |
Henrik 27-Dec-2008 [615] | sounds like drastic temperature change? |
Chris 27-Dec-2008 [616] | Early 20s to near freezing. |
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [617x3] | Yes Henrik we get those alot here in Saint Louis. |
Weather fronts cross each other here frequently. We get the most devestating whether it seems whenever we see a front drop straight down from Chicago. Those are very rare but it seems when they happen they leave destruction.
I think Gregg is in Missouri so he might already be getting some of the bad weather.
Henrik 27-Dec-2008 [620] | Paul, is that near the tornado belt (or what you call it)? |
Chris 27-Dec-2008 [621] | Tornado alley... |
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [622x2] | Yes we get them often. |
Was in one about 4 years ago that ripped the roof off the house across the street from us.
Will 27-Dec-2008 [624] | another interesting live event http://events.ccc.de/congress/2008/wiki/Streaming |
[unknown: 5] 27-Dec-2008 [625] | We had one years ago 25+ that put a foxphoto store in the middle of the street and didn't even spill the rolls of film from the shelves. |
Sunanda 27-Dec-2008 [626] | This was about a mile from my home: http://wongablog.co.uk/2005/07/29/birmingham-tornado/ |
Reichart 27-Dec-2008 [627x2] | all those damned UTC, EST ... isn't there any simple measure for one's local time? Not to rag on you, but UTC "is" the simple measure... |
This DevCon is going to be a DRY RUN (meaning, "let's learn").
