that number is without (most) spouses. (some spouses are actually 
attending too) we're going to be around 40 at the banquet :)

yeksoon: yes there will, i plan to have it "public" as soon as the 
conference start. i will continue doing tests in the next few days. 
i also found a P2P video streaming solution (SopCast), but it is 
only available on windows and i haven't had any chance to test it 
with my camera yet.

for the streaming part, it will be good if we decide on the format 
to use and have it 'announced' on the site.


that way, we don't have to scrable to get the clients or decoder 
etc on the actual day

yes. if everyone is ok with H.264 (best quality, only QT 7 AFAIK) 
we can use that, otherwise we'll stick to H.263 (should work with 
VLC etc.)

i want to check if sopcast can do anything for us... i'll keep you 
posted.

I think H.264 (QT7) is fine with me.

In fact, I love the quality.

I'm excited and look forward to the broadcast. Has anyone translated 
the time schedule to the different time zones?

FFMPEG claims they support H.264

So it should work in recent versions of most open-source players. 
MPlayer, VLC, theoretically even Syllable...

Kaj, it does on my system. Of course the container format needs to 
be handled by a splitter from a different source, but that may not 
affect VLC and such.

I think FFMPEG does the .MOV container format

i'll see if latest vlc can play what's coming out from QT Broadcaster.

I was talking about the MP4 container format. We were talking about 
portable formats, right? H.264 in Quicktime requires version 7, which 
is still a little shaky on Windows, and absent on Linux. MP4 doesn't 
require Quicktime, even if the standard file format is still a derivative 
of an older version of the Quicktime file format.

I'm mostly concerned since there is no chance I'll make it to Italy 
this year :(
