Graham 14-Sep-2008 [1553x2] | Kaj, there never was any documentation except the source code which is linked at the bottom. and all you need is Rebol and an imap server. |
the missing link you refer to is the rebol documentaion project .. and yes, that has disappeared.
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1555x3] | Oh, OK |
But is Dovecot all it needs?
Or can it use any IMAP server?
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1558x2] | Any imap server |
I just thought dovecot was the easiest to setup.
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1560] | So would you be interested in replacing your Fedora VM? |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1561] | absolutely |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1562] | How big is it? |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1563x2] | let me check |
gee .. I've got about 3Gbs of various virtual disks
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1565x2] | Server's footprint is 370 MB. I'm also going to produce a trimmed version, but that will take a while longer |
How big an image do you need?
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1567x2] | anything smaller than what I have is good, and a virtual disk that can grow |
to accomodate the messages
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1569] | I have to create it at a certain size. The one I have now is 10 GB, I believe. Is that enough? |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1570x2] | yes! |
does it have vmware tools installed?
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1572] | No. Do you need it? |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1573x2] | yes, otherwise the time etc won't keep |
well, may not keep | |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1575] | That's running in the guest OS, isn't it? That's not available for Server yet |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1576] | vmware tools run on the vm |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1577] | I'm not sure it's really necessary. Can't VMware keep the time? It has complete control over the guest |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1578x2] | to make sure the mouse, and clock work and the video too I think .. though that's not so necessary in a non-gui environment |
that's the problem I had initially with the first vm I used ... no vmware tools installed and so the clock was never right.
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1580] | There's no mouse :-) |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1581] | true :) |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1582x2] | At least, not in the normal environment. DirectFB and SDL are included, but it's basically a console system |
I suppose you have the VMware tools? Can you install them on a console VM?
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1584] | yes .. it's all console installation ( compile .. but of course it's a perl script! ) |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1585x2] | Ugh. No Perl on a standard Syllable Server, so you'd have to install that, too |
Does it compile stuff? | |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1587x2] | I presume so |
I can see how it works without vmware tools ...
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1589x4] | If so, you'd have to install the developer packs, too, and the size of the thing increases |
I'm out of time for working on Syllable, but I'll squeeze some things in here and there
I still have to make an emulator image for Server 0.3, so I'll see if I can port Dovecot before that
Are you using that VM for anything else but RebelBB?
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1593] | no... |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1594] | OK. It may actually be easier for me to produce a highly optimised RebelBB appliance :-) |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1595] | What's the difference? |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1596x2] | Size |
If I just add RebelBB and Dovecot to the stripped version I was going to work on anyway
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1598] | ok |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1599] | I hear that Syllable Desktop can run for a week on VMware without loosing time, so I don't know what the problem with Fedora is |
Graham 15-Sep-2008 [1600] | http://www.djax.co.uk/kb/linux/vmware_clock_drift.html |
Kaj 15-Sep-2008 [1601x2] | Another fine mess |
We'll have to see how serious the problem is, and if we can correct it by using NTP on the Syllable guest
