I've send a Feedback to AltME, given them the forum link....Time 
for the big guns ;)

Actually it gives me some ideas for bulk download of messages, the 
first time you start AltME in a particular world. The method it uses 
is fine for maybe 500-1000 messages at one time, but if you're getting 
250000, there should be a way for AltME to notify that or simply 
get them by the bulk.

Sounds good......And have a way of turning red off in all groups. 
Having to click everything when re-installing a world is tedious 
and unREBOLlike.

Alternatively (but more annoying), group content isn't updated until 
you click the group, but the server could send notification of new 
messages in the group anyway. Not so great for offline use, though.

I am new to Rebol and have been a lurker for a little while. I used 
R2 to do some work with HTML pages and was sold on its power and 
simple syntax.

I had to easily change some urls to something else and was able to 
in a few lines of code. I tried this with other scripting languages 
and was never able to get it to work quickly.

Thanks, Graham. When I saw that R2 was being updated I decided to 
take the plunge into Rebol a little more in depth. I have read as 
much as I can on Rebol. I am now trying to learn and use it every 
day for different tasks.

Any plans for use?

I am curious how stable R3 is for CGI. I am trying to decide to use 
R2 or R3 for CGI. I would rather use R3.

Well, Carl says that rebol.com is using R3 now for cgi

I saw that and may just take the plunge and go with it.

I am a virtual Prof for an online university. I am in charge of several 
areas. I am using Rebol right now to help with our daily course reports 
I get in csv format.

I take the csv files, convert to RebDB, and then run reports in SQL. 
I am working on an R2 GUI version now. I really hope that R3 GUI 
is going to be functional soon. I could not tell if it was since 
no activity for a while on it. I tried the demo in R3 console and 
it does not work.

What subject ?

Sorry .. the demo does work.  Which version did you try?

Yes, the OSX version does not include the graphics engine.

this will change once the host code is released, so those parts can 
be ported

And the r3 gui is about to be changed ... so it's a moving target 
as far as I understand.

I was happy that that the R2 GUI works pretty well on Mac now.

there are still some bugs in the core (and more likely to be found), 
but the database at http://curecode.org/rebol3/can offer clues for 
workarounds.

Or, maybe the index to the documentation is lacking ...

someone messed up the GUI documentation in the wiki.

Henrik .. this is what people keep saying ... but the thing is a 
wiki .. how come no one reverted all the changes?

because there are two different UI prototypes with each their documentation.

I am still trying to feel myself around. So far I find the docs to 
be ok.

Graham, I don't know. I personally don't have the time to delve into 
dealing with reverting those changes. It could take many hours to 
do.

I mean .. once it was discovered .. it's a sql script to revert everything 
by that user ...

That's the whole point of having admins and a wiki ....

don't we have any communication with that user? an email address?

This discussion should be in docbase .. but I don't know anything 
about this event.

About that "YueM's AltMe problem" .. If i did my math correctly the 
entire Rebol3 database download would take almost 3 hours.  And that's 
with optimal connection on 56K modem, not taking account any errors 
or protocol overheads at communication.

Sounds like I should suggest he leave his modem connected for 3 - 
4 hours then!

it might not work in any case.  cause the larger groups timeout before 
the transfer is done.

and it gets unresponsive.  maybe the new "mark all as read could 
help a bit.

It also depends on protocol overhead.. Running TCP on phoneline... 
Well, it can be done, but happyly I have mostly forgotten those times.

the best for a new install is to get your computer to sync on a fast 
line and then its ok for the daily updates.

but if you don't have a laptop.. hehe I can see it being a bit complicated.
