Support for USB / Parallel

 [1/3] from: rebolinth::nodep::dds::nl at: 9-Apr-2002 15:59

Hello RT, Is there an upcoming support for USB ports on some OS platforms?? And how about Parallel port support? Kind (R)egards, Norman.

That is up to the operating system to provide. For instance on a USB-enabled operating system a serial port, keyboard, mouse etc. connected to USB behaves just like one that is directly attached to the computer. Applications never directly support USB.

On our list, but not with a very high priority right now. Unless you have a commercial use for it, and are willing to pay for such an implementation under a consulting contract. -- Holger Kruse [kruse--nordicglobal--com]

hehe, now I am interested. We wanted our CCD camera to utilise parallel port first, but then we found out the junk related to parallel port support thru various versions of Windows, then we switched to ethernet design. I wonder if you want to support all the ECP, EPP etc. modes thru all the platforms? :-) Because just anyway - parallel port is dead :-) Wouldn't e.g. direct Rebol print support thru some kind of native port abstraction (or I don't know how to get it working thru all platforms) make rebollers happier? :-) PS: you mentioned work under contract. Could we know approximate level of funds RT would need to program such kind of "private request"? Maybe community could pay some few bucks to get certain features implemented? Cyphre? :-)) Now seriously - maybe some companies who bought /Command would like to pay some money to get e.g. direct PostGress, MSSQL, or in Command docs mentioned missing SSL features, not to mention XML family support ... and btw: Rebol Core 2.6 will introduce some changes (mold/all), which will make mobile code even more possible. We have synchronisation stuff with IOS, it would be also good if Rebol would have some kind of P2P, RPC, Rugby like features in combination with async protocols in some of future incarnations built-in by default ... -pekr-
