Sorry guys. I feel like a real dunce.
I don't have a clue as to what the web page
is telling me.

That's actually a somewhat helpful comment - did you
look at the FAQ or homepage or any of the links?

Looked at the FAQ. No help. Don't know what links
you refer to. I've seen other shootout results,
basically, in some configuration languages are lined
up with some comparative or relative figures. There's
none that I can see.
Perhaps you can interpret for me :-).
thanks
tim
Some other examples:
http://dada.perl.it/shootout/craps.html
the comparative ratings (by score) seem pretty
obvious
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/benchmark.php?test=all&lang=perl&lang2=python&sort=fullcpu
comparing perl to python, still hard to understand

Thanks Isaac,
I work on getting the two or three I did up.
Tim, I think is part incentive, i.e. it does not look good for rebol not to
have any enteries
and part flattery, he was willing to install rebol without having 15
programs waiting ;)

sent a rebol k-nucleotides, if that worked I will send a
reverse-complement.r

Does anyone know if you're limited in how you write the scripts? I
can't remember if it was the Win32 shootout but, IIRC, one of them had
limitations on implementations. I assume that's for benchmarking
purposes, but it seems to punish high level languages if they have
features that help in certain situations.
Also, Ladislav wrote an Ackermann function in rebcode, and I think
maybe there was a change in REBOL so "ackermann 3 8" will run to
completion.
I think it will be great to have REBOL scripts for all entries in any
case.

Hi Gregg,
I haven't heard back yet if what I sent worked for them,
but this should help answer your question
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/gp4/faq.php#implement
I would not expect us to be able to use rebcode untill it was on an offical
core release.

Well it ran - but the output didn't match.
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/gp4/benchmark.php?test=knucleotide&lang=rebol&id=0
The expected output for k-nucleotide is given with the
problem description
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/gp4/benchmark.php?test=knucleotide&lang=all#about
There should be expected output files that you can
download, or example output, for everyone of the
problems (if there isn't then open a bug report - see
FAQ for that).
best wishes, Isaac

The problem was with Ackermann 3 9. I think, that the solution I used
could qualify, if Rebcode were "officially" a part to the distribution?

isn't the problem that the output is lowercase and

What's the s in -sqw ?
This is the command-line the program is being run with
/opt/rebol/rebol -q -w ../knucleotide.rebol %A

that is a trivial detail. fixed by adding 'uppercase
print[uppercase n pad (100 * c / len) 3]
print [either c: select mers/:l seq [c][0]tab uppercase seq]
the output you show at
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/gp4/benchmark.php?test
=knucleotide&lang=rebol&id=0
bears no semblance to the solution.
the number values are incorrect and their order is wrong

Well, let's assume that the test scripts have halted
the knucleotide.r on it's first test run (because the
letters are lowercase).
The programs are run for several test values - in this
case 2500, 25000, 250000 - so those number values are
for N=2500. I have no idea what the correct number
values are for N=2500.
The number values shown on the knucleotide webpage are
for N=10000
http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/gp4/benchmark.php?test=knucleotide&lang=all#about
Did you download the example input file?
Did the program give the correct results N=10000 using
the example input file, on your machine?

yes.
yes.
yep, a different input file, than the example input file, would have that
effect...
I will figure out how to update an uploaded
script this evening to make it emit uppercase

You used an Alioth Id, so you should be able to attach
another source code file to the same tracker item, and
then simply change the state to Open - someone will
notice.
thanks, Isaac
