Cool. So, is there an RSS feed, or do we have to create one ourselves? ;-) -- Carl Read

Hi Premshree, PP> why doesn't Carl's Blog have an RSS feed? I fail to understand this. A PP> lot of us read blog posts through feed readers and such. PP> Providing an RSS/Atom feed would be awesome. I think it would be great too. Carl just recently started blogging, as an experiment, so he's probably open to suggestions. Send him a note via feedback and maybe he'll do it. -- Gregg

RSS is, in effect, a standard for publishing information on your website in a way that an RSS reader can read it and summarize it. One way of using RSS..... Maybe you publish a "what's new" page in an RSS format. Maybe there 100s of people who have a keen interest in your site, but can't be bothered to check it every day for new material. So they tell their RSS reader to check your page. You get hundreds of hits a day from RSS readers for that one page. When they spot a change in your page, they format it nicely and alert their owner. Some more information here: http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2002/12/18/dive-into-xml.html Sunanda.

A quick way to spot sites with RSS feeds is to use the Firefox web-browser - when you visit such a site an icon turns on in the bottom-right corner of the browser window. And this list... http://www.livejournal.com/syn/list.bml gives you an indication of what kind of RSS feeds are popular among bloggers (of the Live Journal persuasion.) RSS effectively gives you the opportunity to make your own, personal, online newspaper, featuring everything from stories from the top newspapers and magazines to comic strips to Jane Blogg's blog about how much more she hates her father today than yesterday. Large numbers of those online hear news first via RSS feeds. 'tis the way of the future. -- Carl Read.

The new thunderbird (mozilla mail client) is also a rss reader. So, you can read blogs like your mails (private mails or on a list). It's quite beautiful to be alerted in your mail client, about a new article in your favorites webzines, blogs, or so... Charles.

I manage that. I was feeding the blog titles into it until the format of Carl's Blog changed and talk of an official RSS feed for it began. I'm waiting to see how that pans out at the moment. -- Carl Read.

Umm, I'm not sure I understand you. RSS doesn't "work" with browsers. It's just a format used for syndication.

Carl has already released source of his blog script. Wonder when he'll RSS-enable his blog.

Hi Premshree, Primitive browsers starting with "I" mightn't work with RSS, but Firefox for one, does. Assuming you've v1.0 or thereabouts of Firefox, when you visit a webpage with an RSS feed an orange icon lights up in the bottom-right corner of the browser window. Left-click on that and you're offered the chance to "Subscribe to RSS". If you do so, the feed's added to your bookmarks and when you look at it there you're shown the links to every item in the RSS feed. Test it with an LJ info page to see what I mean. It's useful as a quick way to get back to something you read recently. -- Carl Read.

Yeah, am aware of that. I asked what he meant by RSS being "supported" because it doesn't make sense to view RSS subscriptions from a browser by visiting each subscription every time. :) on that and you're offered the chance to "Subscribe to RSS".
