RSS is, in effect, a standard for publishing information on your website in a
way that an RSS reader can read it and summarize it.
One way of using RSS.....
Maybe you publish a "what's new" page in an RSS format.
Maybe there 100s of people who have a keen interest in your site, but can't
be bothered to check it every day for new material.
So they tell their RSS reader to check your page.
You get hundreds of hits a day from RSS readers for that one page. When they
spot a change in your page, they format it nicely and alert their owner.
