[REBOL] Re: View 1.3 Mac OS X ?
From: dominique::hitoro::net at: 1-Jul-2005 9:18
It is coming but the wait is excruciating.
Yesterday, I was rushing to get View running on something and here is =20
a summary of my experience:
- My Cube refuses to boot with a Mac OS 9.1 disk since I have an
upgraded processor. No way to install Classic without booting and
installing a valid Mac OS 9 system. Anyway, my last experience with
Rebol on Mac OS 8 wasn't great, due to limitations of that environment.
- UAE is very slow, even when using the JIT version on a 1.2 Ghz
processor with lot of cache. There is a network problem too: View
can't connect via the emulated bsdsocket while other applications can.
- Qemu is even slower and I have no space left to host a 2-8 Go image =20
of a Linux environment.
- In last resort, I was ready to partition my disk in order to
install Debian, but the installer refuses keyboard input and I didn't =20
go further than the "select your language" screen. It seems that new
input device layer in the kernel doesn't work on some PowerMac.
Now, I am a bit embarrassed as I need to write some demos for a cross-=20
platform application and I keep promising that View is a efficient
tool for this kind of purpose.
Any idea of a release date? Any progress since that report [1]?
