Hello Rod! On 14-Gen-02, you wrote: RG> 1. Do we really "need" another RDBMS? Well... :-) (Ok, I choose the wrong project for the testbed of my idea. That was just because I'll need it soon... :) RG> 2. Is creating a RDBMS playing to the strengths of REBOL? Not necessarily. Look at my answers to Petr. RG> 3. What is the problem you are trying to solve? Imagine you are writing a software for a shoes shop. They'll need an archive of the shoes they have, and to record what they sell and what they buy for statistics etc. If it is a small shop, MySQL or similars might be overkill; you'll need something that is powerful enough (so that you can reuse code if you decide to switch to a MySQL client/server solution when thw shop grows or if you are contacted by another bigger shop etc.) but also small and simple so you have control on it (and the user does not have to install and maintain a MySQL server, you are not called because the user forgot to start the server and so on). That's my need. RG> I am playing devils advocate here because I want much more RG> than a RDBMS. I'd like something more along the lines of an RG> OODBMS or perhaps even something completely different. I do As I said to Petr, I have some ideas. (Actually, even the Information World can serve as an incredibly powerful distributed data base.) Nothing that can be useful right now anyway, and I'm quite busy, so... but we might discuss it if you are interested.
