[REBOL] Re: hmmm... Kazaa or Morpheus

From: jseq:mediaone at: 30-Oct-2001 17:30

Morpheus and Kazaa are differnt clients to the same p2p library writtenn by fasttrack http://www.fasttrack.nu/ since the network is the same, you'll find Kazaa files on Morpheus and vice versa. Until recently, Fasttrack implemented a serverless protocol so that clients communicate directly with one another for both searching and downloading. They recently modified this architecture to be more like Napster or /Express (central server coordination required) presumably so they could disallow open source clients. I thought of another reason why this deal makes sense for Morpheus - they may be able to distance themselves from Fastrack by providing an alternative implementation of the network, probably written in REBOL. They would be in a lot of trouble if Fastrack settles with RIAA first, and somehow cripples their existing technology stack. John Sequeira http://www.pobox.com/~johnseq [johnseq--pobox--com]
