[REBOL] Re: hmmm... Kazaa or Morpheus

From: jseq:mediaone at: 30-Oct-2001 17:30

Morpheus and Kazaa are differnt clients to the same p2p library writtenn by fasttrack since the network is the same, you'll find Kazaa files on Morpheus and vice versa. Until recently, Fasttrack implemented a serverless protocol so that clients communicate directly with one another for both searching and downloading. They recently modified this architecture to be more like Napster or /Express (central server coordination required) presumably so they could disallow open source clients. I thought of another reason why this deal makes sense for Morpheus - they may be able to distance themselves from Fastrack by providing an alternative implementation of the network, probably written in REBOL. They would be in a lot of trouble if Fastrack settles with RIAA first, and somehow cripples their existing technology stack. John Sequeira [johnseq--pobox--com]
