Rebol2 Docbase changes
[1/12] from: gchillemi::aliceposta::it at: 4-Feb-2008 19:46
Removed the TOC and added a nice table instead
The main page has been splitted into several subpages (those pages needs a
lot of work for a better look)
Icons are needed for the main page
TODO: Rework subpages and tables to accomodate *multiple languages*
documentation and articles
Any feedback/contribution is appreciated !
Go to http://www.rebol.net/wiki/Rebol2 to see the changes

Unless Carl can give out he names of some of the other companies using
Rebol, isn't it a little embarrassing that we, at this time, only list
three companies in the "Companies using Rebol" list on the wiki page?
Would it be suitable for all of the independent developers here to
provide their company name inorder to increase the size of the list and
also give yourself some free advertising? What is the criteria for the
company list? Must you have released a widely used commercial (free or
not) application? Or is system maintenance activity scripting also
acceptable?
I don't think I can personally list my employer as I am the only person
in the company using the language and it's used only as a productivity
enhancer for my many tedious tasks. Not to mention that they would not
endorse their name being associated with the language.
Let's get that list to something that will be seen as a positive, not a
negative.
Cheers,
Brock

This is a good point. I have copied the content directly from Rebol
Documentation Project site but Carl could be the only source of this
information. Also the intent of the pages is to be informative and not
promotional but as you suggest with your observation I admit it is a side
effect.
Remember that REBOL2 wiki page is a collaborative project and it is always a
work in progress
. If anyone has information on companies using REBOL feel
free to add to the table.
Thank you for your reply

I added my business. We rely on in house Rebol apps for daily operations.

Yes, DocBase has sent me a message about your changes. Thanks !
Also, I have asked directly to Carl to spend 10 minutes and add companies
too. If he is not so busy Unicoding I hope he will add more entries

My recollection of this topic from the past is that some companies that
have used Rebol, maybe it was the IOS product specifically, considered
this competitive advantage. Thus they would not have appreciated this
being public knowledge. If this is infact true, as I didn't get this
comment directly from Carl, this is a little backward thinking and can
only hurt Rebol from being adopted or atleast recognized as an
alternative in larger companies.
Hopefully Carl can share some of Rebols larger corporate users at some
point. If not now, hopefully after R3 stabilization.

You're talking about AMD.

hi,
The way the page is labeled or approached should be changed to allow
contractors and professionals to list themselves, or what they are doing
with rebol professionally.
this way, we can add ourself or someone else, without explicitely naming an
employer or even a programmer name, if doing so would go against company
policy, or someone wants to retain online annonimity.

Hi Maxim,
which changes do you propose, how should this page look ?
If you give me a couple of guidelines I'll apply the modification to the
page.

maybe add a second section in the same page to allow professional developers
to list things they are working on, or have done using rebol.
in any case, the page could be used to find rebol professionals outside of
RT doing commercial work.
but it might also make the page look a little bit more filled up.
it allows people to write things they've done, without linking it to any
company or project.
you should also write that the company list is not exclusive due to many
companies working under NDA (non-disclosure agreements)
and that some of the professionals keep their names and or projects
anonymous or vague in order to protect the privacy of their clients or their
own online presence.
IMHO if people can say that they've done stuff, however suscinctly, at least
it shows that rebol IS/HAS been used commercially.
a separate question... can anyone get a username on the wiki?

Added with some notes on the bottom. Look at:

Shouldn't it be simple ? Go to Login on the upper right and select "Create
New Account"... Or is the question different ? :-)
