Rebol & Linux

 [1/10] from: rebol665:ifrance at: 2-Jun-2002 15:54

Hi rebollers, I am just curious what system is used by the rebol community. I was a Windows guy, and I am "starting a new life" with Linux. So which is yours ? Patrick PS: Some will notice that this message is send from Windows because I am still fighting with PPP but I hope to read yours answers from Linux.

I am still running Windows 2k, but plan to shift over to linux at an appropriate moment. (Probably the next major hard disk crash.) Rebol Technology tend to release their latest beta offerings on windows first, and linux a close second. Anton.

Hi Patrick: My main workstation is Linux Red Hat 7.2 running Windows 98 at the same time on another "virtual desktop" using Win4Lin 3.0 (with the same file system "underneath"). I use rebol primarily for CGI, and I test with Apache. I alternately test when necessary from other Windows machines on my network using Microsoft Personal Web Server. Win4Lin 3.0 has a 'vnet' option that allows me to configure a "virtual machine" on the same machine. I have not yet used that option. I have found that my current version of rebol/core (2.5.0.4.2 on Linux, and the corresponding windows versions on the other machines have some differences in the way that CGI/path-info) is interpreted. I've coded to resolve those differences I am a partner in a small company. My other partner is primarily a perl programmer. He indicates that he finds differences in stability between Windows and Linux ports to perl. I do not find such differences in stability in my configuration, between different ports of rebol, that is to say: I find rebol equally stable accross both platforms. (disclaimer, I'm simply being anecdotal here, I have no formal benchmarks)

P.S. I have heard that rebol is very big in France. I hope that the US will catch up. :-) -- Tim Johnson <[tim--johnsons-web--com]> http://www.alaska-internet-solutions.com http://www.johnsons-web.com

Hello pat665, Sunday, June 2, 2002, 3:54:34 PM, you wrote: p> So which is yours ? Server: RedHat with Apache desktop: WinNT4 with Apache I have no problems with moving scripts from Win to Lin and vice versa (just use a simple script for replacing paths in the files to fit in the target environment)
