Unarchiving REBOL on AIX

 [1/5] from: jelinem1:nationwide at: 24-Aug-2001 13:51

I should have probably asked here on the list before adding to the [feedback--rebol--com] heap. I am having problems unarchiving the core170_tar.tar file on AIX. I've downloaded this file from www.rebol.com via I.E. web browser on a PC, then FTP'd in binary mode to the AIX machine. Following is the syntax that I am using to unarchive this:
>tar -xvf core170_tar.tar
tar: 0511-169 A directory checksum error on media; 1701732181 not equal to 66576. Is my syntax incorrect, or is the file corrupt? I've downloaded this twice from the REBOL site now with the same results, so there must be something in my procedure that's wrong. - Michael

Hi Michael, something similar has happened to me before, while downloading files... a Corrupted version was in the cache and (IE) hadn't detected the ftp error, thinking that the transfer was finished. Flush all caches (memory and disk) refresh (reload) the page and re-download, you might see a difference in size? This may be the cause. Have you tried Winzip on it to see if Winzip is able to identify the files in the archive? It might even be able to unpack it even though the tar is from another OS! cheers! -Max Contrary to popular belief, Unix IS user-friendly... its just picky on who it considers a friend

Deleted "temporary internet files" and reloaded the page. I hope this is enough "flushing". Selected "open this file from its current location" and Winzip appeared to give me the message: Error reading header after processing 0 entries. It seems that my Winzip is associated with tar files, implying that it can read them, but it doesn't like this one. This is leaving me stuck on this simple(?) first step which is a shame cause I have an opportunity to get the REBOL name visible to management. - Michael Maxim Olivier-Adlhoch <[max--ordigraphe--com]> Sent by: [rebol-bounce--rebol--com] 08/24/01 02:11 PM Please respond to rebol-list T To: <[rebol-list--rebol--com]> cc: bcc: Subject: [REBOL] Re: Unarchiving REBOL on AIX Hi Michael, something similar has happened to me before, while downloading files... a Corrupted version was in the cache and (IE) hadn't detected the ftp error, thinking that the transfer was finished. Change the extension from .tar to .gz and it should work fine. I will send a feedback. --Ryan [JELINEM1--nationwide--com] wrote:

That worked like a charm.
