Updated Syntax Highlighting for UltraEdit

 [1/5] from: gchillemi::aliceposta::it at: 8-Dec-2007 23:48

Hello, I have just updated the wordfile for Rebol 2.7.5 and View. It is nice to have 8 color Syntax Highlighting ! :-) There are still 2 issues to resolve but I need the UltraEdit Developer: 1) String stored between {} are not recognized and if you have a {"} string the source after it is considered as a string. 2) I have asked a way to recognize function names to list them separately in the function window. If you need the wordfile please mail me privately and I'll send it to you before the 2 problems are solved and the wordfile is published. Giuseppe Chillemi

Bummer! There really ought to be a rebol editor written in and customizable with rebol.... that would be most appealing. tim

Which special functions do you require for this editor to be integrated with rebol and written in rebol ? However, if the author of ultra edit implements the recognition of fuction names when "does" or "func" are found it would be a great thing. I would like a lot to have my function listed in a separate list ad automatically collapsable. Giuseppe Chillemi

Oh, I don't know that I can answer in a paragraph, a full-fledged editor would be a **bbiigg** job! If it happened, I assume that that View would be the environment and I only use 'core, but that would give me an excuse..... It would be so much nicer to use rebol to customize an IDE than elisp or vimscript. tj

As text handling is now, a seperate string and face is required for every change in text formatting (AFAIK) - even bold and italics, never mind different fonts and colours. That would be the biggest hurdle I think. (And I'm sure someone's jumped it after a fashion.) But I suspect waiting until REBOL 3 is the current sensible approach for coding a REBOL editor. -- Carl Read.
