Free SMS messaging from Rebol

 [1/17] from: gchiu:compkarori at: 19-Nov-2000 17:39

I finally got around to fixing mycellphone.r which allows you to send free sms messages. I've changed from mtnsms.com to freesms.net as the latter does not require you to register to send messages. It uses a debugged version of cookies-client.r ( well, there are probably a couple of other bugs I need to sort out, but as it is, it now works ). usage: call-cellphone "+64211234567" "This is my message" [myemail--myisp--com] The new working versions of cookies-client.r ( which has only been tested for this purpose ), and mycellphone.r can be found at http://www.compkarori.co.nz/x.php?/zwiki/SCripts Bug reports to me please ( my wiki is currently anonymous write disabled ) -- Graham Chiu Compkarori, Karori Shopping Mall, Karori, Wellington, NZ

Oops! There seems to be a daily 10 sms message limit with freesms.net. Oh well, back to mtnsms.com -- Graham Chiu

Mr Nobody.

I would guess that the www.freesms.net site lists those companies with whom they are able to exchange messages.
> Do I just need the 2 scripts > mycellphone.r > cookies-client.r
Yes, and the new ones from my site. The old ones on Rebol.com won't work for this purpose. freesms.org have a limit of 10 sms messages per day, and I'm not sure whether it's 10 sms messages per ip address, or 10 per telephone number or combinations thereof. I would like to work out how to use mtnsms.com again, but it's proving a tough nut. -- Graham Chiu Compkarori, Karori Shopping Mall, Karori, Wellington, NZ tel: +64 4 939-0212 fax: +64 4 939-9088 [sales--compkarori--co--nz] http://www.compkarori.co.nz/index.php

Hello Graham, I tried your cookies-client.r behind a proxy server. But it didn't work. Is there a problem with proxies ? Hi, I haven't tried it behind a proxy server so don't know. Actually, I've not had any success reports without proxies either! -- Graham Chiu

Hi Graham, Sorry Cant report any success here .... I can send messeges via www.freesms.net but when I try the program it reports true at the console but I dont get confirmation and I dont get the message. By the way I am sending to Autrailia so I changed the smsCountry part of the data to +61. (I am using the latest program from your Web Site ... downloaded today) Cheer Phil

Hi Phil, I don't think it matters what the smsCountry is set to as long as the country code is specified in the cellphone number. This is why it is not an input variable to the function. If you have Rebol/view, you could try it at my site http://www.compkarori.co.nz/index.r Or, you could email me your cellphone number and I'll try both freesms and mtnsms from Rebol. :-) Cheers, -- Graham Chiu

Hi Graham, just after I sent the last email .... my girlfriend reported she got my last message !! I didnt get am email fom freeSMS confirming it had been sent. Is this correct? What do I have to do to change to www.mtnsms.com apart from registering? ie Do I need a different program or just amend the existing one? Anyway I'm sure you dont want my girlfiends telephone number ;-))) (I am probably the only person on the planet who doesnt have a mobile!!) Cheers PHil

Join the club! :-) I don't have one either. I'm waiting for a cellphone that can run Rebol! :-) And then I'll buy it. Andrew Martin ICQ: 26227169 http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMartin/

Great!

I've noticed this as well, but didn't think much of it. But yes, there seems to be a bug. I didn't form the email before appending to the block. Fixed and added some simple checking. New version up.

Well, both. But I've done the hard bit, and the version that works with mtnsms is on my site called mtncellphone.r You may have to twiddle with a couple of variables lenSSig "7" "lenLSig" "12" which relate to the length of your short and long signatures as stored on their site. But it may not matter as I suspect they are only used in calculating how much text you have left. Experiment :-)

Hi Andrew, There's a Palm clone out there that you can add a GSM phone to. Or is Rebol still not planned for Palm? -- Graham Chiu

I was hoping someone would volunteer! I don't have time to wrap my head around Rebol/view, and my attempt is a quick hack :-( -- Graham Chiu
