words, words, words
[1/9] from: hallvard::ystad::helpinhand::com at: 13-Nov-2002 11:51
Hi list,
I hope you all recognized my Hamlet quote in the subject line.
This message is primarily for Cyphre, (because I have seen http://www.rebol.cz/~cyphre/slovnik.r)
but everyone else is welcome to answer if you have any good tips.
I'm looking for free-to-use dictionary files. Files with lots of words in them. I don't
need files with two languages in them. I found some files at http://www.june29.com/IDP/,
and they certainly will do, but maybe someone knows about something else I may use for
free too? I'm creating a little script that will replace some words with others (without
translating into another language), so the more words there are in a file, the better.
Thanks for any tips.
~H

Thanks. Very good. But I suddenly realized that I need some sort of markup too. In the
files I already had, there was [Noun], [Adjective] etc at the end of each line. Anyone?
Jan?

there are a number of TEI dictionaries out there. I don't know if they
will work for you, most of them are multilingual in nature.
http://www.tei-c.org/Applications/index-lang.html if you go here you
will a number of TEI projects, including TEI dictionaries in language
order.

Hello Hallvard and all,
I'm sorry but I don't know about any free dictionary files...try to search
at Google.... I just know one useful site http://www.ectaco.com/ where is
lot of international online dictionaries.
BTW Very soon I'll release a new version of Translator. This version will
support lots of dictionary web services (not only for czech people)...If you
are interested, have a look at the screenshot

http://msowww.anu.edu.au/~ralph/OPTED/
OPTED is a public domain English word list dictionary, based on the public
domain portion of "The Project Gutenberg Etext of Webster's Unabridged
Dictionary" which is in turn based on the 1913 US Webster's Unabridged
Dictionary.

OK, thanks for helping out, everyone. I finally got a good one here: http://msowww.anu.edu.au/~ralph/OPTED/.
Needed a bit amending to be suited for my use, but plain-text files usually are a piece
of cake to change.
